This is a really great introduction to Norse mythology, their gods, godesses, other mythical beings, and creation/ end of world stories, coupled with amazing illustrations and great short quips about each being.
This is definitely a book that can be read by all ages, although with the short stories is more aimed at the younger audience.
This book could give a run for their money to some artbooks out there! That's how gorgeous the illustrations are, pitch-perfect for creating a magical first impression of the Norse pantheon for younger readers. It is definitely not a very detailed review of stories: I think the emphasis was on making it accessible for children, so that they are later interested in picking up more books about the Norse gods. I think it would make a very luxurious gift for a child interested in mythology, I can imagine those illustrations looks downright magical on paper.
My thanks for receiving an arc of #LegendsofNorseMythology from #NetGalley go to the publisher.
Beautiful book with stunning illustrations. Really informative but not dry., my only criticism would be the lack of pronunciation guides or hints. Will definitely be purchasing a physical copy
This book was full of very interesting facts and stories from Norse Mythology. It also had beautiful illustrations on each page.
The book offers a wonderful overview of Norse mythology. In short chapters you get an insight into the life and work of the most important gods and beings. The information is summarized in a child-friendly way. But adults will also be fascinated by the mystical stories. Definitely worth mentioning are the gorgeous illustrations. The style fits in perfectly with the Nordic sagas and there are many details to discover. Some of the illustrations might seem creepy for sensitive children, but nothing is overdone in my opinion. All in all, a great children's book that invites you to read it aloud and also to browse for yourself.
One look at those stunning drawings and I knew, I will be the first to go to my local bookstore in search of this title. Not only the graphics are breathtaking but also the writing which in a simple way explains things that are not easy to understand in times in the world of Norse Mythology. I loved how everything was divided into certain Gods, and the stories of Thor's Hammer and Ragnarök were summarized onto a couple pages and that's it. Honestly, it does not read like a children book, it actually reads like a book for everybody. I appreciate that. I just wish that the reviewing copy was easier to read, but it's a small thing and does not influence any stars I gave.
Love mythology and Norse is one I know a little about but not enough so this beautifully designed book was great for learning more about Norse mythology
From the origin of the gods to Ragnorok, the Legends of Norse Mythology will introduce you to all the gods you’ve famously heard and seen on the big screen before (Thor, Loki, Odin..) and regale you of tales of other gods that you may not have heard of (Baldur, Surt, The Norns).
It’s a beautifully laid out and illustrated book which makes it a delight to read. Each page focusing on a certain element, be it a god, a tale or a creature and is accompanied by stunning drawings and designs. I can imagine this would be a lovely book to physically flick through but it was still easy to appreciate the gorgeous detail and designs of the ebook.
It was succinct yet held all the detail and sum up stories and myths of the gods. Wonder no more about how Thor got his hammer, read about the sly escapades of the trickster Loki and even the tale of the time Thor disguised himself as a girl to fool a giant.
It was super entertaining and I finished it effortlessly in one sitting. It’d be suitable for all those interested in Norse mythology, children and adults alike.
This illustrated anthology collects stories about Norse gods and goddesses. It has introductions to the main gods and then dives into mythology. The illustrations are not typical and I don’t know if all children would love them. They are very whimsical though.
