Poor Polly has come to a cross roads in her life. She isn’t happy with any of it. Work or love and has decided it’s time for a change. Just as she finally takes control of her life, an unfortunate incident leaves her with little memory of who she is and she finds herself having to start over again.
If you are going to end up anywhere, then I am sure like most of us, we would love for it to be by the sea and this is where Polly finds herself. Marielle is a wonderful lady who is probably a bit too open hearted for her own good but she takes pity on this lady who can’t remember anything and brings her into her home and family. I loved the hustle and bustle of the Italian restaurant as well as everyone who works there. There is a lot of energy and good vibes when it comes to these parts and of course the description of the fabulous food was an added bonus!
There are some loveable and definitely not so loveable characters throughout the story. The close knit friendship between Marielle and her friends was great to read of as well as the new friendships and some blossoming love interests. Whilst it has a bit of a David and Goliath theme going on, it’s very much about self worth.
The Happiest Ever After is another feel good and wholesome read by Milly Johnson. The mix of humour and heart-warming moments was just glorious! Every chapter ends with the local paper apologising for errors which has become a bit of a trait of the authors and it’s absolutely brilliant. They never fail to make me laugh. The author’s books are a real tonic that always leave me with a smile on my face and all warm and cosy inside. A gorgeously fun, light-hearted read that gives you a great big hug!
This book has absolutely everything. Fabulous characters -both good and obnoxious; sadness, hilarity, warmth and kindness. I loved every aspect. Milly has the most wonderful sense of humour and this shines through in the many laugh-out-loud one liners that come at you out of the blue and the fantastic Daily Trumpet blunders that had me giggling when ever they popped up. I am a massive fan of Milly's writing and have read every one of her books and never been disappointed. It was a total joy and privilege to read this book and I thank Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy. This is my honest and voluntarily given review.
Yet another Milly book that I devoured in one reading because I needed to find out what happened! Our main character is Polly, a woman undervalued by her employers and her partner (he doesn't even know how she takes her coffee after 8 years!)
You are rooting for Polly from the beginning of the book, her friends could be yours and the horrible ones are just that - horrible!
An excellent piece of writing interspersed with hilarious Daily Trumpet stories - winning all round!
Scissor sharp wit, loved it!
Polly Potter is certainly not living her best life. Her working life is not good, putting in the effort, someone else taking the credit. Her home life is seriously lacking too. Polly needs to make drastic changes, will things change for Polly?
I loved reading this book. I am a massive fan of Milly Johnson having read pretty much all of her books.
This book was a very enjoyable read, funny, witty, sarcastic, with the underlying story covering quite a few life topics. A mixture of humour with some sadness at times, and happiness and kindness. I liked Polly and was rooting for her throughout the book, and warmed to the lovely Marielle. There were a few characters not likeable to boo at, whom you itch for their comeuppance.
I totally enjoyed reading this book, and feel there is a lot of thought and meaning behind the humour which gives depth and understanding for the reader.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Publisher for an advanced e-book copy. Opinions about the book are entirely my own.
Polly is not happy - she has a hellish boss and a partner she is preparing to leaves after he has cheated on her. The only time she is happy is when she is writing, her feisty character Sabrina is all Polly wishes she herself was. When events lead to Polly finding herself living as Sabrina, her life is great. What follows is a story of self discovery and self acceptance.
I really felt for Polly and loved Sabrina, a perfect mix. Milly Johnson has written a brilliant cast of characters, from those you love to hate, to those you just love. A great read, and the Daily Trumpet inclusions were just fabulous!
Another great read from Milly Johnson once you get started you just can’t put them down.
I loved the wonderful storyline, Polly is a fab character and the daily trumpet was too funny!
Milly Johnson is one of my favourite authors and her writing just gets better and better.
I highly recommend this delightful read
What a perfect read! I love MJ's books and would 100% recommend. Light hearted and so comforting. Super!
This is a delightful story.
The main character Polly leaves her old life behind and heads to the seaside. There, she is robbed, falls and hits her head, and ends up in hospital having lost her memory. She thinks her name is Sabrina, only gradually remembering little snippets from her old life. There is of course, romance along the way and many laughs, particularly from the printing errors of the Daily Trumpet.
A real feel good novel, a joyous read.
I love getting stuck into a Milly Johnson book. The story and the characters wrap around me and the rest of the world disappears around me.
Polly Potter is a great character, the first half of the story I was gunning for her to run away from Chris, especially after her surprise wedding where there was nothing of her factored into it. Then she is mugged and looses her memory and pulled Sabrina from the depths of her memory and I spent the second half willing her to stop trying to remember who she was and embrace Sabrina and the great friends and life she has found. What an amazing story of self discovery and bravery.
Teddy is a great guy, he cares so much for Sabrina and understands that she has to go back to her life when Chris finally comes for her. And Polly has to be brave all over again and stand up to Chris and get back what she really wants, her happiness.
From the start, to the last page I was totally enthralled. An amazing read.
I was so excited to get the latest Milly Johnson book, especially the audio version as I have read all of her previous books.
It's difficult to say but I think this book is my favourite so far. Polly is overlooked at work and at home by misogynistic men but is finding it difficult to get past this. She at least decides to leave the unhappy home situation and just has to endure the vow renewal of her materialistic sister in law first.
I don't want to give anything away but the wedding has an unexpected turn and then another unexpected occurance results in memory loss. Polly has a chance to be who she feels she is and the events following this are entertaining.
Milly has done it again in style.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC. This is an honest review.
Polly Potter lives with Chris, who treats her like his servant. Leaving his stuff lying around, expecting Pilly to pick it up. Things are no better at work where new management steal her ideas and package them up as their own. The only joy she has is her creative writing group, where she is writing a novel about herself in a parallel life calling herself Sabrina.
Polly has had enough. She quits her job and packs her bags to leave Chris after his sister's wedding, of which she is a bridesmaid.
At the wedding, Polly is totally shocked and does a runner before the ceremony. Unfortunately, on her way to the seaside, where her auntie and uncle used to take her, she had a bump to the head and lost her memory.
From here on in Polly becomes Sabrina and has a wonderful time with wonderful people.
Another cracking read from Milly.
I loved Polly/Sabrina. She was a very warm, genuine character. Mirielle, Teddy, and Flick, along with Chris's son Will, were lovely relatable characters.
The baddies were Cilla, a really despicable woman, along with Camay and her daughter. Nasty pieces of work. I was cringing.
The only negative from me was The Daily Trumpet news articles. I didn't think it really added anything to the overall book.
Fans of Milly will love this.
Thanks to Netgalley and Simon and Schuster UK for the ARC in return for an honest review.
Polly plans to escape her unhappy relationship when she thinks she`s being a bridesmaid in a horrible dress her boyfriend had arranged for them to be married but Polly runs away returning home and packs her bags to escape, unfortunately she is mugged and her car is stolen with all her belongings and falls to the ground ending up in hospital with loss of memory.
Luckily she is befriended by Marielle who gives her somewhere to live while Polly tries to remember who she is.
A great story of friendship and great characters that you just can`t put down.
As with all of Milly Johnson’s books the happiest ever after has the perfect mix of romance & laughter with fully-formed & interesting characters.
Such a feel-good story that kept my interest from beginning to end.
I really like the article apologies throughout this book book, they are so funny, I laughed out loud at all of them. Haha.
Some of the explanations of people in this book are hilarious, checking for a slug trail made me laugh so much.
This is a funny, romantic, heartbreaking story but it's also heartwarming. The relationships made, ended and developed are brilliantly written about.
I love Polly, she is feisty and unsure all in the same breath and she was my favourite.
I always love Milly Johnson's writing style, she's so good at funny comments and quips.
Milly Johnson always delivers. The down on her luck heroine who sees the light and forges her own new path. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
This year has been a tough year with family health issues and I’ve struggled at time to enjoy reading. So I’ve been sat on my proof copy until things hopefully settled down.
I’ve curled up with book this week and enjoyed the emotional rollercoaster penned by Milly, laughing and crying along the way. Loved the Daily Trumpet stories too. Great characters and a great reminder that kindness is important in life, not money and status.
Another 5 star book by Milly.
This book was absolutely amazing from start to finish. Milky Johnson has a way of drawing you in and I found myself not wanting to put the book down!
I think I read this book in record time because it was just so gripping.
Loved the character of Sabrina and Teddy. The Italian restaurant sounded fab and there was a great community spirit there.
Would 100% recommend
This is such a fantastic book, I have never read a bad book by Milly Johnson, but something about this book really resonated with me. It was so very emotional but also heartwarming.
I loved the snippets from The Daily Trumpet that were hilarious and really balanced the emotions of the storyline.
There was a good mix of well developed characters, both nice and villainous.
Without giving away any spoilers, I loved the ending too. This has to be one of my favourite books of the year so far. I can't wait to read Milly Johnson's next book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.
Nobody writes characters and storylines quite like Milly Johnson. Her books are always like a warm hug, with storylines that keep you hooked and rooting for the main character, and truly excellent ‘villains’. The Happiest Ever After is no exception, it’s a wonderful read, and I raved through it in 2 days. The ending is satisfying and I loved all the extra Daily Trumpet excerpts as well, they really made me giggle. Thank you so much for this arc! I’ll be getting the audiobook as soon as it’s released so I can enjoy it all over again.
This was such a lovely book to read. The characters felt like my friends and I would’ve loved to become part of their lives. It did feel like there could have been more ‘pazaz’ but I enjoyed it none the less. I’ve never read a bad Milly Johnson!
