I can not begin to tell you how brilliant this book is. The characters are amazing. I connected with Polly straight away and had to put the book down when anything happened to her. The daily trumpet segments are hilarious. Brilliant brilliant brilliant. 10 stars if I could. Thank you netgalley for the advance copy
Polly Potter is ready to make big changes to her life. Fed up with her relationship and her job, the only thing she really enjoys is her creative writing course. As part of the course Polly has created a character, Sabrina, who is no nonsense and taking charge of her life. The very person Polly wants to be.
After an incident Polly wakes up in hospital in a strange town with no memory of her life, the only thing she is sure of is that she is called Sabrina.
Hospital volunteer, Marielle, takes pity on her and Polly is quickly drawn into the life of Marielle’s family, working in the Italian restaurant owned by Teddy, Marielle’s son. As Sabrina she soon makes new friends and settles into her new life, but fleeting memories of her real life begin to surface and she knows that at some point she will have to face up to the life she left behind.
Milly Johnson knows how to create characters that you will root for, that will move you, and that you will feel you know. Once I started this I didn’t want to put it down, I had to know what happened. The perfect book to take you out of yourself and lose yourself in. 5 stars is not enough.
What a fantastic five-star read that will have you craving the fresh sea air. This will leave you feeling like you have just had a lovely chat with your bestie and leave you feeling like you had the best time. Polly’s life will leave you wanting to fight for her, push her to really stand up for herself, and what happens will leave you with your mouth hanging open. Shoresend really does sound like a place that we all should go visit, the people who make up the small town sound like a nicely mixed bunch, not all nice people, and that’s what gave this story a sense of reality, there are so many points that you cant imagine, but do you know what that’s not what this story is about, its about taking a break from life and enjoying yourself with a really good book, honestly this book succeeded so well, I was able to have a break from a really tough week, go to a lovely place like Shoresend and try and help Sabrina find herself again, and in doing that I found a little part of myself as well, and that really helped. Do pick this story up, as if you need a pick me up or inspiration, this will do it, and even if you don’t, this is still a great story you don’t want to miss.
This book had me hooked from the very first page. Milly has a way of creating characters that you can't help but root for, and Polly was no exception. Her life is in shambles, her relationship with her partner is falling apart, and her stepdaughter is making things even more difficult. The only bright spot is her stepson, but even he can't make up for everything else that is going wrong.
Just when Polly is about to make a major change in her life, fate intervenes. She finds herself in a strange town, with no memory of who she is or what happened to her. It is a gripping and emotional journey as Polly tries to piece together her past and figure out what her future holds.
Milly's writing iss superb, and I was completely invested in Polly's story. I laughed, I cried, and I couldn't put the book down until I knew how it all ended. This is a must-read for anyone who loves a good story with relatable characters and plenty of heart.

Milly Johnson is truly the queen of the heartwarming and relatable romance novel.
Her characters are always well written and realistic and you can't help but get swept up in the wonderful magic she creates from her stories of good, hard working, everyday people.
I did find the beginning a bit slow going and I didn't fully understand what was going on with the Daily Trumpet inserts or what they really add to the book. The surprise wedding concept irritated me because you have to go through a lot of rigarmole to get married it simply would not have happened like that.
All in all this is book is like a hot chocolate for your soul. Sweet, warm and oh so comforting.
With thanks to Netgalley/ Simon & Schuster for the ARC
I was sad to finish The happiest ever after. Milly Johnson has a wonderful knack of writing a book that makes you laugh out loud, and cheer inwardly when the story comes together in the way that you want. I read the book in just a few nights as I gobbled up the wonderful storyline. I like the fact that you can visualize the places where it is set (it does help being a Yorkshire lass!), so this makes the story more joyous.
We join Polly on her journey to sort her life out and be happy, we are taken on wonderful laugh out loud journeys and escapes. Enjoy
I love Milly Johnson and I must admit it took me a bit of time to get into it. I read in one setting. I loved the Daily Trumpet bits . Made you laugh .Polly was in a miserable job which she was fab at but got no praise and a dead end relationship . You follow her escape to freedom which takes some great twists. How little her partner really knew her was just amazing. There is so much I want to say but can’t I loved the Italian restaurant . People are cunning.. I loved the area it was written in as I live here.. It was a great story and a perfect ending. I loved how the step son worked it out , you had little stories running in the book and it all came together. The sister in law was a piece of work over the dress. Put a few hours aside and read it
I loved this book. We follow Polly who has a plan! She just has to survive a wedding then she is leaving. The wedding is not as expected though. Highly recommend!
Wow what a tonic this book is, so refreshing and with Milly Johnson's usual gift of humour, Northern spirit and characters that instantly come to life.
I particularly loved Milly's impassioned notes at the end of the book supporting the gifts that romantic fiction books deliver to readers and the take down of snobbery that is unwarranted! Yes to all of that!
Another wonder from Millie Johnson. I see Millie Johnson and I'm straight onto that. I absolutely love her books and this one didn't disappoint. Definitely able to relate to Polly in some parts of her life too, I love how "real life" some of this is and the failures life throws at you. All there for a happy life and how things change for her.
This book is a triumph in romantic fiction! It is more than one story as it has a story within a story. I love the plot and the clever twists and turns as it gives you everything that you want when reading a romance novel. I would absolutely recommend this fantastic book to anyone looking for a great read!
Wow a fantastic book great characters loved polly light can be taught it will pull om your heart strings characters become your friends your be there with them I do enjoy milly writing style I recommend to you all
I enjoyed this book, although I did think what happened to Polly when she left a bit far fetched. And the character involved, well, I skimmed through his bits. The romance was lovely, and I loved the setting for the second part of the book. The ending was satisfying. I'm glad those who needed to got their comeuppance. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Although this book will be super popular and although I love other books by this author. I didn't like this one. I couldn't get into the storyline. I thought at one point at the start of the book it felt a bit bizarre as it seemed to jump around a bit for me and I couldn't quite get my head around it all. I think I wasn't expecting it and I wasn't in the frame of mind to read a book that I really had to pay attention to. Which was a shame really as I ended up not enjoying It as much as her previous books. That being said I know others will adore it and I am in the minority.
I enjoyed this book. A story of sadness and being lost in how your life is going. Making big changes is very hard and Polly is on the verge of doing that. I think how she reinvented herself through an accident is very clever writing and I enjoyed her awakening as to her true self.
This book in my humble opinion is Milly Johnson at her finest. When I was growing up the film ‘Overboard’ was one of my favourites, this book reminded me a lot of that and made me feel weirdly nostalgic. The daily trumpet sections never fail to make me laugh and poor Polly Potter is a character you can’t help but warm to.
I would definitely recommend this book, it is fantastic.
Thank you to NetGalley for my advanced reading copy.
I’m a Barnsley girl, I have been a massive Milly Johnson fan for many years. I was very excited to get an advanced copy of this book through Net Galley to review and I wasn’t disappointed. One of her best yet. The characters felt like friends.
It has the much loved Daily Trumpet extracts that never fail to amuse and great sea gull retribution!
It’s also worth hanging in to the end and reading the Acknowledgments. This is not a guilty pleasure it’s a well written story about everyday people looking for their happiest ever after.
I love Milly’s books and this was no exception.
Polly is stuck in a rut - her partner and her are essentially living separate lives whilst in the same house. Her work mentor has died, leaving the firm in the hands of men who take the credit for her work. Her step daughter doesn’t like her (although her step son is a different story). Her best work friend is due to give birth and her maternity leave replacement is another man who is likely to be promoted above her. Polly is making plans to change her life drastically and has a date in mind when an earth changing event propels her to leave town - only to brainy and be mugged in a random town. With no memory of what has gone before……
I could not put this book down. It’s such a well written book with great characters. I was rooting for Polly throughout and hoped she would get the ending she deserved. A book that made me laugh out loud more than once as well as bringing tears to my eyes at times.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read and review.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. One of my favourite authors whose books always make me feel good. Great read, great characters. Loved it.
Polly Potter has finally had enough of being invisible at home, she has tried to mend things with her partner, Chris, after his affair but it has been a one sided effort. She has decided to leave him and start again, she just has to wait until his sister's vow renewal ceremony and then she'll be off. Unfortunately life has a way of throwing a spanner in the works, things don't go the way she expected and she finds herself in hospital not really remembering how she got there. Luckily for her she is befriended by Marielle who helps her try to piece her life back together. Unbeknownst to her the memories she starts to regain come from the pages of the novel she has been writing featuring a much feistier, stronger version of herself where her personal tragedies haven't happened. Milly Johnson has really excelled with this book I really enjoyed the characters and story.
