This was a very descriptive book. I loved everything about Iceland! This book made me want to visit even more.
At times the story did get a bit wordy or everyone was thinking too much. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for the early copy

This book by Kate Frost held me from the very first chapter. The main character Molly, dealing with bereavement sets the scene beautifully, she stirs emotions in you and you become invested in her.

This book follows the main character, Molly and her relationships both with her boyfriend and her family and despite the disappointments and sadness she faces, she is eventually ready for new challenges and to make some life changes. She finds herself and her answers to her future in Iceland when visiting her sister and her family who run a small hotel. You really root for Molly and for her to find her happy future. This book is set at Christmas time in Iceland, this lends to the romance of the book and the story it tells as the settings are so beautifully described.

It’s like a hug in a book, a really lovely story, filled with emotion and great characters. Once you start reading One Winters Night you won’t be able to put it down.

Can I jump onto a plane now to Iceland? It sounds idyllic at Christmas time, so long as you can cope with the cold. On seconds thoughts i'll stick to my winter sun holiday, but happily will keep reading fabulous books such as this about Iceland from the comfort of my armchair!

I loved every second of this book, as Molly starts to come to terms with her parents deaths, her grief and her whole relationship with Howard, while spending Christmas with her sister, Claudia and their family in Iceland.

i loved the adventurous trips that Elvar guided Molly and other guests at the lodge on, It gave me a real feel for the country, the danger of the weather, and just how amazing hot springs are. And the descriptions of some of the natural phenomenons were so vivid, I felt as though I was there.

It's a novel full of character development and I loved seeing how Molly grew over this Christmas period. I loved learning about the Icelanding festive traditions too. i had an early inkling as to how some of the story might play out, but i was never completely sure I'd be right and thoroughly enjoyed finding out.

There are so many lovely characters, and it was a joy getting to know them all. Well with the exception of the two that you aren't meant to like!

This is Christmassy, it's snowy, it's full of family and warmth, and heart, and it's another bit of proof that Kate Frost writes wonderful books set to exotic backdrops.

I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this book.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Set in beautiful Iceland this tells the story of Molly who sets off to spend Christmas with her family. With the heartbreaking loss of her parents and a loser boyfriend who finally shows his true colours, can she find happiness this Christmas?

This is the beautiful second book from Kate for 2023 and make sure its in your TBR this Christmas.

The books main theme is about overcoming grief and loss and focusing on the future while learning that there are still great experiences left in the world to be had. I could relate to the main characters sense of loss and I have been to Iceland so enjoyed having a book set there — it is a rare book location — as well I always like a good Christmas themed book . I got invested in the main character immediately and wanted to know what would happen to her. This is also a story about a woman who feels she has lost herself and needs to rediscover who she is and what she wants now that she has had so much loss — I am sure many people can relate to this feeling . Unfortunately around 46% into the book I started to feel a bit board with the characters repetition of internal turmoil over her situation— I wanted the story to continue moving forward and it began to feel stuck at this point but I plugged on — a little while later she did slowly start to take hold of her feelings and confront some of them and confront issues she was bottling up — I liked when she started taking control and confront the situations— but at this point I still just couldn’t get into the other characters in the book or get invested in them . A while later in the novel -for me an interesting part of the book for me was when other characters started revealing their true feelings and tried to communicate with each other about their bottled up emotions . This opened up an opportunity for a love interest for Molly the main character and brings out the life’s too short motto of the book and was something I agreed with and I can understand how the loneliness feeling is hard to overcome but we must try to love forward — as life is too short. As well the theme of seeing things for what they really are instead of through rose colours lenses . Once the love interests start rolling in for Molly this made the other characters more interesting for me and trying to decide who if root for .
Molly’s overall way of thinking is similar to mine to I really could relate to her as a character. I liked the book overall and would recommend it to people over age 35 - as like myself they would be more able to relate to the main characters feelings.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC . This was my honest review .

I really enjoyed this wintery read.
Initially set in Cheltenham (a stones throw from where I live) we meet Molly, a young woman dealing with a whole lot of grief, while stuck in a job and relationship which might not be ideal!
As she flies off to visit family in Iceland we start to learn more of her life and those of the people around her.
The description of the scenery and landscape is brilliant and you will feel that you are there. I have a vivid picture in my mind of what the hotel looks like and especially the place they go snowmobiling.
I don’t want to give more away but you will feel the sorrow and grief of our lead character as she begins to deal with everything life has thrown at her.
My only slight regret with this book is that while we spend quite a lot of time with Molly dealing with her sadness, her happier times are summarised within the epilogue. I would have loved a few chapters at the end, expanding on what we learn within the epilogue, being able to feel the happiness and seeing how life can continue while dealing with loss.

All in all a lovely read, one I would recommend.

Reykjavik, Iceland at Christmas? Sign me up!

Northern lights, hiking to the falls, snow, reading by the fire with a hot chocolate… ahhhh.

I’ve always wanted to go back and what a perfect season to make a return trip; Yule Lads, Jolabokaflod, the Blue Lagoon ….

Unable to balance an emotionally distant boyfriend, with grieving the loss of her parents and the emotional upheaval of selling the family home, Molly hopes that a couple of weeks with Howard at her sister Claudia’s home in Iceland over Christmas will do both her and Walter the world of good. When his last-minute plans cause friction, Molly decides to continue on with her plans and go to Iceland ahead of Walter. Will the arrival of an old flame help or hinder Molly’s healing?

Frost examines what happens when road bumps throw us off course and shows us that attitude is everything … and sometimes, things are meant to be the way they worked out after all.

Things I loved:
✔️Message about missing out due to feeling comfortable where we are
✔️Reminder that life is never straightforward but we have the opportunity to control our reactions
✔️Warning about not taking chances and investing in our dreams
✔️Message about moving on, looking to the future and focusing on what’s right

This wonderful festive read is one you’ll want to add to your Christmas reading list.

I was gifted this copy by Boldwood Books and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

I would love to travel more and see the world but I don’t have to when the magnificent Kate Frost brings us with her as she creates unforgettable characters who visit magical and unique parts of the world. In her latest book, “One Winter’s Night” we travel to Iceland with Molly Bliss who will be staying with her sister and her family at their boutique lodge. Iceland is known as the land of fire and ice because it is home to massive glaciers and the world’s most active volcanoes. Now I can see why Molly was looking forward to her long awaited two week vacation where she could reconnect with her sister, relax, and reflect on where her life would lead her now. Dreams do come true for those who truly believe and I feel that Molly will find the answers she is looking for while she is there. Perhaps she will be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of The Northern Lights, or maybe she will take a dip in The Blue Lagoon while gazing at the towering mountains. Molly’s life the past two years has been full of emotional upheaval and unrelenting heartbreak. She yearns for a life where she can be her own boss; one that will allow her to use her love for cooking to make people happy with her delicious recipes. Molly’s time in Iceland will be the balm to take away her sadness, open her eyes to all that life has to offer and maybe, she will finally meet the man of her dreams.
