Ellie has lost her job and she went back to her hometown, and she is house sitting for her parents while are gone. She needs to keep busy so and has taken a job at The Dog and Duck bar in town. She has also decided to start a day care business for dogs.
I liked the characters, and the story was good. It was an easy read but did not have the wow factor I was hoping for.
Thank you NetGalley, Jill Steeples and Boldwood Books for the copy of Winter at the Dog and Duck. This is my personal review.

When I saw the cover of this book and read the title, I knew it would be right up my street.

This is a lovely book centred around the village pub "The Dog and Duck'. As the title suggests the book takes place in Winter, only the last 10% of the book is centred around Christmas. At reading the synopsis and looking at one of the covers, I had assumed the whole book revolved around the Christmas period. I love a Christmas book whatever the season. In fact I seem to enjoy them more in the warmer months, as I can imagine what is to come. This book was still enjoyable as the weather here in the UK is already changing and feeling very autumnal.

Ellie is looking for simpler life and is tired of the hustle and bustle of London. She decided to come back home to the village of Little Leyton in Buckinghamshire, to stay at her parents house whilst they are currently based in Dubai where her Dad job is. To make ends meet Ellie starts her own business offering a dog walking service and goes to work in the local pub. She has been brought up in this village and has a lovely relationship to with the pub landlord (her best friends Dad) and the locals alike. She meets local business man and property developer Max Golding who has big plans for the pub when he becomes the new owner.

This is one of those books you can curl up with and just be transported away. The characters and village are lovingly written and it makes me want to move to the area to be a local. The book is filled with friendship, love and lots of laughs. It is the first book I have read by Jill Steeples but I will look forwards to reading the upcoming books in the series.

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Ellie grew up in Little Leyton but she has been away at Uni and then London working in finance so being back in a small village and working at the pub and as a dogwalker is very different, indeed. She is enjoying the change of pace but she knows that she will have to make a decision in a couple of months. In the meantime, she is catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. Including Max.

Max is the handsome, brooding stranger in town that Ellie feels an instant connection with. Does he feel the same way? And could there be any kind of future for the two of them?

I really liked this book. Ellie is gorgeous, inside and out, and I loved that even when things don't go to plan for her, she doesn't fall down in a heap. I also love her enthusiasm for all things Christmas, that was rather sweet.

The Dog & Duck sounds like the kind of pub that every village should have. The descriptions of the various groups that used it for their social interactions made me smile.

This book was a lovely, positive breath of fresh air, without being sickly sweet. There were some thinkers in here as well e.g. when Ellie met Ima, the young refugee woman.

4.5 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books.

Ellie had it all; a dream job in London until she finds herself jobless so heads back to her hometown of Little Leyton. With a new business of her own, romance is the last thing on her mind until she meets Lord of the Manor.

With fighting off her friends with benefits Johnny and deciding to do with her life, Ellie finds herself suddenly in a love triangle whilst battling for her pub.

This is the start of a brand new series by Jill that you do not want to miss. Full of laughter and friendship make this another series you just have to read.

I'm sorry, I'm just so far from the target audience for chick lit/romance with no substance. .

This was another fabulous feel good read from this author whose books I only found last year. I loved the characters and the community village feel of this book which was a cosy read with a hint of Christmas and it was the perfect escapism to brighten up a dull rainy day

Am looking forward to the sequel to see how max and Ellie’s lives have confined to develop and what is in store for them next at the dog and duck.

Loved this story. I had not read it but it is a rerelease with Boldwood books. . It is a story of the main character Ellie being made redundant and moving back home for a while.. You have dogs, love , parents , old and new friends. An ace pub . It was a cosy story and you want to go to the pub. Can’t wait to read the next one. A lovely ending too.

A very cute and feel good Christmas romance. A push back at the pace of London life and a cheer for the slower, perhaps kinder, pace of village life. I enjoyed the developing relationships, the lure of old friendships, and who can beat a mum walking in when you are getting romantic on the sofa? Such a good Christmas read that made me feel all warm and mushy,
