Another cracking tale from Keri Beevis which kept me swiping the pages as fast as I could read to get to the end. I'm a slow reader these days, but I read this in two days. The characters of Emily and Matt are very well written, and their relationship so so well portrayed. Beevis always writes a great baddie, but I think she's surpassed herself with Connor who is a truly awful person. In the Acknowledgements, Beevis mentions that his character is loosely based on a real-life person which adds an even creepier touch to the story I've just read.
An easy 5 star read for me.
Thanks to netgalley and boldwood books. W.O.W what a brilliant read, i was hooked from the first page, the author had drawn on experiences of someone close to her, which made the story even more realistic. It was creepy in parts, stalkerish, im sure my heart missed a couple of beats as i waited to find out what happened next.
Emily's father doesnt have long to live, even though they have been estranged for many years, emily starts to visit him. Emily and her partner max aren't getting along, and emily walks in on something she shouldnt have seen. She becomes upset and confides in the charasmatic connor, who volunteers at the hospice. When emily explains they cannot be anything but friends, connor takes stalking to a whole new level.
Max has booked a boathouse for himself and emily and scout the dog for a break after emilys father passes away........
I wont spoil it for you, but it is most definately a 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 read. Well done again kerry beevis
This was a different story to the usual Keri Beevis. Not a murder mystery but a chilling story of obsession. Lots of potential triggers to be aware of as many difficult subjects are tackled.
The protagonist, Emily, is on holiday in Norfolk trying to reconnect with her boyfriend Max following the death of her father. Strange things begin to happen, noises are heard and cryptic messages are left. Eyes are watching and someone is waiting.
The difficult subject areas are written with incredible sensitivity, also reinforcing an important message about consent.
Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.
Another great read from this author.
I stayed up late to finish it.
Creepy tale with just enough red herrings.
This has everything!
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
Easy five star read.
Such a creepy and twisted read, I couldn't stop reading well into the night. Loved it! Thanks for the chance to review this ARC.
Max and Emily are going on a well deserved break, they need the time to relax, unwind and ‘be together’……..although only one of them knows the real reasons why…..secrets have been kept, life changing ones and putting a few hundred miles between these secrets and them will make them disappear……wont it?
Keri Beevis has once again written a real page turner, this is a pure full on thriller in my eyes and the action is built up nicely as we find out more and more about what has happened in the past
There is a vile character called Connor who you will detest but he is written brilliantly and the difference in what we see and what he sees re his actions is chilling and sadly very real as the author talks about in her acknowledgements
A lesson in how people twist what they want to suit their evil narrative coupled with the person it is affecting struggling to maintain their life makes this a powerful book, and a very good one

A woman is touched when her boyfriend books a relaxing, romantic getaway to help her get over her father’s death and signal a fresh start for their relationship. She’s just been so jumpy lately. At the house, instead of being able to relax, she finds herself more anxious than ever, afraid there have been too many odd noises and coincidences. Her boyfriend, of course, doesn’t believe her, making a bad situation worse. Someone isn’t telling the truth, but which one of them is it?
Such a creepy read.
With a lot that turned my stomach with some delicate issues in the writing of this book from Keri Beevis it's one of her best.
Connor Banks this man is a stalking twisted dangerous rapist that will make you freak out.
Wroxham Norfolk Broads the Stone Boat House is the perfect getaway, for couple Emily Worth and Max Hunter, a cute little boat house a perfect quiet place to get away from their work and spend quality time together, with a tiny cottage opposite with a jetty the place has a tranquil feeling, it's perfect for their border collie dog Scout too, as Emily takes him out for a walk before dark, she was safe here wasn't she?
But from day one things start to happen.
A gripping absolutely gripping read that will make you freak out, I just could not put it down chapter after chapter.
A page turning Psychological thriller, a dark secret, a deadly obsession with no place to hide.
Beevis is a unique story teller.
Max and Emily have taken a few days away and are staying in a converted boat house. Max nips out and Emily opens a bottle of wine that has the instructions “ drink me” on it. When Max returns she is horrified to find that this isn't the wine left either by him or as part of the welcome pack. Who has been in the house and why? She then thinks that there is someone outside- there is a mask hanging up but as it's soon Halloween Max quickly dismisses this as kids messing about. Emily has a secret from the past, something Max doesn't know about. A while back her father died and Emily made a friend in Conor, one of the volunteers at the hospice until his attitude changed. Can Emily keep her secret and protect the man she loves?
Keri has a skill in writing- one that quickly puts the reader not only in the thick of things but starts with a sense of security which then changes to a sense of unease. What begins as a domestic drama then has a tension, a certain something you can't quite put your finger on that things aren't as they first appear. I raced through this- I read it in two sittings- as I had to find out what was going on. An edge of your seat read- perhaps one not to read in the dark in a boathouse in Norfolk! Twists and surprises of the not nice kind, and characters I was still thinking about once I’d finished the book- argh! A clever, thriller of a read, highly recommended.

Thank you to #NetGalley, Boldwood Books and Keri Beevis for the opportunity to read an advance copy of THE BOAT HOUSE, to be published 24 August 2023. A week away on holiday. What better way to refocus and recharge? Of course the unwanted attention from someone you’d categorized as a ‘friend’ can put a damper on things. The secrets that come to light during this holiday are out of sight. The immense turmoil that occurs as a result are ‘to die for’. 5/5 Stars. #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks #KeriBeevis #THEBOATHOUSE
This talented author has written a cannot out down novel. The realistic characters keep the story loving quickly. Do not even try to guess the ending. Red herrings keep that a surprise. Thank you Netgalley.
