Hannah M. Lynn's "Sunny Days at the Second Chances Sweet Shop" is a delightful escape to the sunny shores of the South of France, filled with heartwarming moments and a touch of romance. This book transports readers into the life of Holly, the beloved sweet shop owner, as she embarks on a week-long adventure for her best friend's hen do.
Holly's internal struggle between leaving her young daughter Hope and the promise of a vacation is beautifully depicted. Lynn skillfully captures the complexities of motherhood and the need for personal rejuvenation. Holly's decision to take a break becomes a journey of self-discovery, as she rediscovers her true self under the French sun.
The picturesque setting of the South of France is vividly described, making readers feel as if they're basking in the warm sunshine and breathing in the sea air. Lynn's writing evokes a sense of wanderlust and a yearning for a getaway of our own.
As Holly navigates the challenges of motherhood, friendship, and romance, readers will find themselves rooting for her every step of the way. "Sunny Days at the Second Chances Sweet Shop" is a heartwarming tale of second chances, self-exploration, and the sweetness of life. So, if you're in search of a feel-good read that will transport you to the French Riviera, this book is the perfect choice for your next literary escape.
Sunny Days at the Second Chances Sweet Shop is Book 5 of in this series, although it could be read as a standalone book I think it’s even better if you have read the others too.
I had mixed feelings about book 4. Not in the writing but in I was disappointed that things had not worked out for people I had really been rooting for, more of a personal disappointment rather than issue with the story. Book 5 was like a soothing balm and whilst I’m still gutted that Hollys relationship didn’t work out I can see it was for the best.
Holly is die to go on her best friends hen/stag do in France, it being the first time she’s ;eft her baby Hope. She tried to resist going but knows Ben will keep her updated.
What an adventure Holly ends up having, her eyes are opened to her situation, what she really is looking for and that feelings can be mistaken. I couldn’t believe which character made an appearance, he is like a bad smell! If you have read it you’ll know which character I am not a fan of!
A great light hearted read, very enjoyable and fun!
This was an easy lighthearted read that I was able to finish in one evening, though to be honest, I wish I would have read prior books in the series before reading this. I definitely was able to read it as a stand-alone, but I think I would have gotten more out of it had I know the characters more and gotten more of their backgrounds. And there wasn’t much that actually took place at the sweet shop.
Holly is hesitant about going away on a joint hen-do because she doesn’t want to leave her baby Hope and her sweet shop, but her parents and her baby’s father, Ben, who she has a great co-parenting relationship with agree that she needs the get away and have it all under control. So she decides to go for it and have a reset and her friends on the trip try to get her to have a holiday fling. So off she goes to bask in the sunshine of France with her friends and she meets the hunky owner of the villa they’re staying at and sparks fly. Only a face from the past shows up in an unexpected location and makes her question her feelings for everyone and everything. She has some tough choices to make but there are also some literal laugh out loud moments as well. I was rooting for Holly all the way.
A perfect escape for a few hours.
Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.
I read this book without realising it was part of a series. It enjoyed it fine as standalone but it would have helped if I had known some of the characters back stories.
It was a book I sped through and really enjoyed. There was a great range of characters, some whom I liked more than others. I really liked Holly and could empathise with her when it came to leaving Hope at home. I felt she developed through the book and faced a few tough decisions, especially when faced with someone from her past.
This is a lovely read with plenty of laugh out loud moments, friendship, romance and a stunning location, which I would definitely recommend.
Thank you Rachels Random Resources, Boldwood Books and Netgalley for my ARC copy for review. All views are my own.
This a sweet story, I was immersed in the storyline instantly. I loved Holly she is a strong, feisty main character, this book has it all romance, humour and wonderful friendships. I love Holly and I think she such a relatable character with her dilemmas as a new mum. I was so upset when this book end I am desperate for more. If you are looking for a book that is pure escapism then this perfect.
This book is of a series, although it can be read as a standalone novel, it is more enjoyable if you have read the other books in the series.
This was a very good and enjoyable read. It was lovely to catch up with Holly again and baby Hope. As usual, there was a lot of drama and emotional scenes.
This book had a good ending, although I would happily read more books in this series, I have really enjoyed reading these books.
Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood books for my ARC.
OMG, Holly's had a baby? I have a lot of catching up to do - I've read the first book, but need to catch up with those in between, and soon.
Whisked away to the south of France for a hen do, can Holly stop fretting about daughter Hope and let her hair down, she's in the city of lurve after all.
Sunny Days is a gorgeous addition to the series, it's fun, romantic and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's always great reconnecting with old characters and meeting new faces.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I enjoyed reading this book, which is an easy read.
For the first time Holly is leaving Hope who is now 8 months old with Ben and going to France for a joint hen and stag do. She’s thinking of every reason possible that may help her in not going at all.
But, in the end, she’s going, Ben informs her that he will stay in touch.
The trip to France isn’t smooth sailing and there’s things that happen whilst Holly is there.
The characters were all brilliant and the setting was beautiful.
I recommend this book.
Holly Berry is back with more questions and thoughts about her life,
In this fun filled adventure, Holly isn't in her sweet shop.
She makes new friends has more mishaps, and has a romantic time in the South of France.
A funny and heartwarming story about balancing motherhood
and being a woman.
I enjoyed reading this book immensely.

A getaway to remember... It’s Holly’s best friend’s hen do and the plan is a week away in the South of France. With little Hope still so very young, it’s going to be difficult for Holly to tear herself away, but Ben is the perfect co-parent and her own parents are just down the road, so – Holly decides – there’s really nothing holding her back, is there? Will the sunshine and sea air help her get back to who she really is? Or will this be the perfect distraction, a chance to have a holiday fling? Bask in the sunny skies of France with everyone's favourite sweet shop owner - because everyone deserves a break, don't they?
My Opinion
I think that I am reading this series in the wrong order or at least I think I have missed a book. To get the full enjoyment of this book I would recommend reading them in the correct order.
This is a lovely, light-hearted read that I managed to squeeze into an evening. I hesitate to say that Holly is looking forward to her trip to France, but in this instalment we don't see much of the sweet shop. Holly is such a likeable character and having read earlier books in the series it was nice to be amongst friends. I now need to go back and work out which books I have missed as this is such a great series to escape with.
Rating: 4/5
Holly is going to the south of France to celebrate the stag and hen for Jamie and Fin. Along the way she meets Evan. As usual, Holly has her accidents along the way. While in France, Giles shows up and Evan leaves. The author has tied up the loose ends of the people of the book. Hope that there will be more to Holly's life story. Hate to see it end.
Received an ARC from NetGalley and leaving a review by my own choice.
I must admit that I haven't read the previous books in this series before this one, although the first two are languishing in my TBR list. This lack of backstory of the characters did make some of the storyline less clear, however it would be churlish to mark the story down because of this. I would definitely recommend reading the earlier books first though. That aside the story itself had a glorious location, a mixed cast of characters, romance and humour. Holly comes across as a good mother, really caring for her daughter, but suffering from being on her own. The chance of a holiday romance isn't on her mind at the start, but can she / should she take advantage of an opportunity as she is faced with? I'm now going to have to go back to read the series from the start to find out how she arrived in her situation and will no doubt enjoy those as much as I did this one.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.
I would firstly just like to say a big thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my kindle, in return for my honest review.
This book is actually book number five from the ‘Holly Berry Sweet Shop’ series.
This story follows Holly as she escapes to the South of France for her best friends hen do.
It was such an easy book to read and i found myself speeding through the chapters and turning the pages faster and faster!!
I loved Holly, she is just a lovely, perfect female main character and i really enjoyed getting to know more about her.
This was a perfect, escapist read and i loved being immersed in the story…….
Sunny Days at the Second Chances Sweet Shop is Book 5 of the Holly Berry series and it certainly didn't disappoint!! Holly is off to get friends joint hen and stag does in France. The first time she's left 8-month old Hope and is so anxious that she is thinking all sorts of reasons not to go!!! But she goes on the understanding that Ben, Hope's daddy will keep in contact while she's away. There's more to the story but saying anything will give spoilers so I'm not saying more! Except the characters are all fabulous and my new friends, the setting is glorious and I wanna visit now! (Much better than the typical British rain we are currently having!). This would make a fabulous, light hearted read on a sunny holiday with a glass of wine. Loved it
Another lovely series found. Reading book 4 as the first I’ve read I did t feel like I was missing chunks. It felt like a good rounded book.
I liked the characters, the community Holly lived in was lovely. The parents and her relationship with her baby and Ben.
Evan sounded too good to be true but a gorgeous hunk!
Thank you NetGalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Another great read from the sweet shop series . Holly is a great character and the hen do was fun but it was difficult for Holly to leave Hope behind. Some great new characters and some recurring past characters. A great quick read.
Another cute story from Hannah Lynn following Holly Berry. This one though is not set at the Sweet Shop - she is off on a hen/stag do!
Thank you to Netgalley, the Author and the publisher for the advance copy of this book.
I read a previous title in the series and loved it. This book did not disappoint either.
The story follows our wonderful FMC Holly Berry as she escapes to the south of France for her friends joint hen and stag do, leaving behind her baby for the first time and stumbling across Evan the very dreamy and rich MMC.
Holly is such a likeable character and if felt like reading about a friend I haven't spoken to in a while. The chapters are short and the story is easy to follow. I found myself laughing out loud out a few moments which is always a sign of great writing for me.
Hannah Lynn has the ability to tell wonderfully uplifting, fun and joyful stories via her characters.
Tropes:
Forced proximity
Grumpy x sunshine
4.5 stars.
Absolutely great holiday read as a standalone or as part of the series.
I read it in a day! I just adore this series, I've had great fun following the characters (my new friends) across the books. I was so glad that this book took the happier tone like the first books of the series, but no book in this series has been anything less than superb. Hannah Lynn has quickly become one of my fav!!
Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for a review.
I have just binge read all of this series in the last few days! You could probably read this as a standalone but personally I think you would be better reading the previous books first.
Fun, easy summer read.
