A woman falls to her death from a building. Tate is arrested for murder but protests her innocence. Who was the victim?
I thought this was going to be a formulaic murder mystery, but, wow was I wrong!! This book will take you on a rollercoaster ride and the twists and turns will leave you breathless!! Without giving spoilers, just when you think you’ve solved it, the author throws a humdinger of a curveball.
Tate tries to stop a woman from falling off the roof at the office party but then suspected of pushing the victim. No-one believes her story, even her lawyer, so what is going on.
The story is woven with 3 different standpoints that all is not what it seems.
If you can suspend belief, (it isn't realistic), then this is a page turner full of twists and weaves. Definitely recommend.
I really enjoyed The Woman on the Ledge. It’s a tale of obsession, intrigue and revenge and I loved it. It’s written in several parts and each part adds to the tension, mystery and intrigue. I round rate this book 4.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Random House UK and the author for the chance to review.
I am hugely grateful to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC. What a cracking book. A book in two parts - we first get one story, and then another ... can't tell you what these differing stories are or which is the real one in this review without spoiling things. The main things that I liked werethe revealing of how the different people were intertwined and the raising of the issue of how the criminal justice responds to allegations of sexual abuse - the reality that victims may be doubly-victimised by the process and by society if they reveal what has happened to them. This was a book that I raced through, wanting to know what really happened and why. Some questions for me about the ethics of the criminal solicitor staying silent but it's good to see that the author has spoken to lots of experts about the legal issues before writing this so presumably has thought through all these issues
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance reading copy of this book with no obligation to review.
This is a definite page turner and has lots of unexpected revelations. At the beginning you feel that Tate's story to the police is unlikely and you wonder if the book is going to be a let down. Then inconsistencies appear in Tate's story and the story she tells her lawyer changes; Tate is caught out in lies and her story changes again. Gradually everything you thought you knew turns out to be different.
I enjoyed the book, I felt that the characters were believable and easily distinguished. The dialogue and interactions were authentic.
As you get to the end of the book you realise that, to be honest, it's all a bit unlikely but it doesnt matter because the story has swept you along to a fairly satisfying ending.
There's nothing profound or even particularly memorable about the book but it is a very good story and just about believable, - like something you might see on TV starring Joanne Froggatt.
The Woman on the Ledge was my first ARC for 2024 and what a great choice to start the New Year off!
When Tate Kinsella helps a woman down from the ledge on the 25th floor of her office building at her office party, she thinks she’s done a good deed. However, when she’s then arrested for murder, a new narrative starts to emerge which begs the question - who can be trusted?
The Woman on the Ledge is an extremely twisty thriller and is perfectly paced and well plotted to keep you guessing and gasping at every turn. The story starts off giving us the events from one perspective but then adds more details and events in which leaves the reader on the backfoot and unsure which turn of events to believe.
The story is told in multiple parts, and we get chapters from multiple perspectives, but I didn’t feel that this affected the pace and I felt invested in both main characters. There’s not much else I can really say without giving too much away, it’s a dark story but there’s a good ending and it kept me hooked throughout.
Overall, The Woman on the Ledge was a great read to kick off 2024 and I highly recommend it. Thank you to NetGalley & Random House UK, Cornerstone & Century for the chance to read the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Between holidays and work, I've got way behind on my reviewing, so unfortunately some books aren't as fresh in my mind as they should be. The Woman on the Ledge has an intriguing premise and a complex and well-executed, if unbelievable, plot. (Nobody would ever do this. You just have to suspend your disbelief.)
Aspiring actress, current office worker Tate Kinsella (yes, that's her real name) talks a woman down from jumping from an office block, but that's just the start of the story. Or is it? It would spoil the story to say too much (also, I've forgotten the details). Suffice to say there's - obviously - much more to this than meets the eye. It's cleverly done, with a few head-scratching moments when everything gets suddenly upended.
I was left with the feeling, a bit glossed over, that one young character in particular would probably suffer unintended lasting trauma as a result of the events described. Does the end justify the means and the collateral damage? Not sure.
An engaging and entertaining read.
Tate Kinsella is arrested for the murder of a woman who appears to have fallen from an office block roof where Tate has been doing temp work. When Tate realises she can trust the legal support she has been given, Sarah, the real truth starts to come out and the vastly complex circumstances behind the murder are revealed.
This book was really exciting and constantly kept me guessing. I enjoyed the different perspectives and also that the reader has to work out the "how" and not just the "who" and "why" as is often the case.
My only criticism - and I'm not sure I'd even call it that - is that it did all seem pretty improbable, but it's fiction so this isn't really an issue.
A fantastic read that went off in the most unexpected direction. This is such a clever book, a definite five stars.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for my honest and unbiased opinion.
An intriguing thriller with so many twists. Essentially, a woman, Tate, is charged with murder after another woman falls from the roof of an office building. The narrative of the death is revealed in a number of layers being peeled back as Tate gives her explanation of events to her solicitor. The plot is intricately woven and definitely keeps you guessing. It started off well but I did find that as the story developed, it became rather implausible and too neatly resolved. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading this book and it was certainly entertaining.
You will have to look hard to find a more twisty book than this one .I soon began to realise that I had not got a clue what was going on, but I liked it ! Interesting story and keeps you guessing, well worth a read.
Omg wow what a page turner the woman on the ledge was I hooked from start to finish. It was full of unpredictable twists and turns which I did not see coming. It is told from different perspectives which i think definitely helped build the suspense throughout. Highly recommended will definitely be looking out for other books from this author fantastic.
This was a fascinating thriller told through the eyes of Tate who is under suspicion of murder after a woman fell from the top of the office block Tate worked in. This seems like a simple story at the start but then Tate reveals another dimension then another until what seems like a straightforward crime becomes increasingly complex. This possibly requires a couple of trigger warnings but it’s also difficult to do so in some ways without part revealing the plot but there’s a well calculated crime committed even if it takes some time to understand. I found this page turner original and thought provoking and the story was very well drafted.
Just finished this book in a rush before it expired, and so glad I did! I was intrigued at the start but wasn’t gripped entirely, but then the twists and turns began and the story unfolded. I won’t give spoilers but this is an excellent read, with crime and at times uncomfortable drama that will resonate with people in different ways. Will definitely look out for more from this author. Only minor negative is that there were random missing letters at the ends of some words, hopefully rectified by time this goes to print…
Otherwise not to be missed!
Wow what a page turner! I couldn’t predict where the story was going , full of twists and turns. Fantastic it really grabbed my attention.
Wow! An exciting thrilling ride of a book ... unpredictable with twists everywhere!
A woman dies, but is it suicide, murder or something completely different? A page turner for sure!
This was a great read. Everytime I thought I knew what was going to happen, I was wrong! So many twists! Great characters as well.
The plot has so many twists and turns you get dizzy.
A woman falls from a building and Tate is arrested for her murder but denies the charge but feels guilty on how it happened, but how did it happen?
The story is told through the past and present, when you think you know what happened the twists take you in another direction all the way through the book.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC and I give my honest review.
Tate finds herself in the unenviable position of being a suspect for a murder she claims she didn’t commit. I couldn’t think of anything worse than being innocent with no one believing you. You try and do a good deed for it to come back and bite you and it’s looking like she could be going down for a long time if found guilty.
This is without a doubt a story that the less you know about it the better. The way the author weaves the story is so cleverly done that I would never in my wildest dreams expect it to take the turns it does. It will have you asking yourself if you would do the same in Tate’s position. It covers a certain topic that will rile you and make your blood boil. There is so much more I would love to say about it and I want everyone else to read it asap so I can talk about it as it was so good.
The Woman on the Ledge has shot up to be one of my favourite books this year. With so many unexpected twists it had my heart racing ten to the dozen. With how the story starts to the timing of how things slot into place, it makes for a seriously engrossing read that blew my mind. The author’s background of being a criminal defence lawyer makes the story even more credible and I can’t wait to read more by her. Twisty, dark and thrilling, just brilliant!
This was brilliant, a twisty thriller that had me gripped from start to finish and had me holding my breath that the outcome would be the right one.
Ultimately this felt for me about female empowerment and writing wrongs.
Heartbreaking moments too.
Just a brilliant read.
Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to review this book this is my honest opinion.
