A great read with lots of twists and cleverly executed by the author. A very believable storyline and characters. I would definitely recommend this.
A woman falls from a ledge of a high rise building while a second woman is attested for her murder. No one believes that she is innocent. Has she been framed or are secrets about to come to light?
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I really enjoyed it. It was nothing like I was expecting, which was refreshing as it can be hard to be unique when it comes to these types of thrillers. There was plenty of misdirection and twists, with the added premise of an unreliable narrator. Just when I thought I had managed to get a hold of the story something happened to completely change my mind. Not only was this an entertaining, gripping thriller but it also covers a number of serious topics which raise several questions. Overall a complex, well written thriller which I would recommend and I am interested to find out what other books this author has written! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy.
Brilliantly executed, inherently believable. A good strong cast of characters, all the women were fabulous.
Whilst the plot touched on historical under age sex and the aftermath of that. These women are all survivors.
Ruth has obviously researched to paint such vivi images- all of the stars 🌟 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was *so* good. The plot, and the twists were layered and just kept coming! Believable and enjoyable, I bloody loved it!
I really enjoyed this book, nothing was quite as it seemed and so many twists and turns, I loved the characters, and maddys story was heartbreaking, shows a mothers love is strong. I would definitely like to read more by this author.
Thank you
This is a very clever, hugely engaging thriller, one that I couldn’t put down! The story of how a woman came to die after falling off the roof of an office building plays with all sorts of assumptions about people, their pasts, the truth by telling the same story over and over, each time adding a different layer and seeing it through a different lens. Loved it
Wow, what a book, twists, turns, scary, unable to put this down.
A very good read if you want to immerse yourself into a great tale. Who knows who, and when did they meet?
I felt sorry for the solicitor in this tale, all is revealed right at the end, so no use second-guessing as to the outcome of these people.
I received a free copy from Netgalley in exchange for a review, here is the blurb:
"A woman falls to her death from a London bank's twenty-fifth-floor roof terrace.
You're arrested for her murder.
You tell the police that you only met the victim the previous night at your office party. She was threatening to jump from the roof, but you talked her down.
You've got nothing to do with tragedy.
You're clearly being framed.
So why do the police keep picking holes in your story? Even your lawyer doesn't seem to believe you.
It soon becomes obvious that you're keeping secrets.
But who are you trying to protect? And why?"
This book did have me hooked to see how it all fitted together. A few too many co-insidences to make it believable to be fair but it was still a good read.
A very clever, different book to read,
I assumed that the story would develop to show how and why Tate was more and more involved in the murder. Yes it does but not in the way I expected.
There are several twists in the 'I wasn't expecting that' category - these often come right at the end of a 'Part' in the book.
I guess my only reservation was that it seemed to take a long time to conclude.
4.5 stars but rounded down
This is a fast-paced and well-written psychological thriller. I’ve never been too keen on an unreliable narrator, but it all comes together in the end and the structure suits the story. We flip backwards and forwards in time for the whole novel and the twists are amazing. I have one slight concern over something late in the novel, but not enough to really detract other than that 1/2 star rating.
Yet another gem found through Netgalley! My thanks to them, the author and publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a review.
This does not form part of my review, but I wanted to flag this up as my one concern with the plot. Late in the novel a phone is used to bring evidence to light of Jeremy’s behaviour. As this took place some time after Mandy’s fall, my thoughts were the phone battery would not have lasted that long. Indeed the narrative states the phone is charged. I may be mistaken in this and please forgive me if this is the case.
I really got into this book as it proceeded. Nothing was as it seemed and the plot was expertly twisted. Would read this author again.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A really exciting thriller with a twist I did not see coming. This is a book that turns on its head and throws off everything you thought was happening and it would make a really exciting drama on TV.
This was a really good, twisty thriller. I really enjoyed how the layers of the story were slowly peeled back to reveal the bigger picture. The characters were relatable and you could absolutely sympathise and understand how they were feeling and what was making them make the decisions they were. The writing was very clever!
A brilliant book! When Tate is arrested for murder, she keeps changing her story. First she knew the woman, who fell to her death, was in her work building, then she hadn’t known. Then there is the mysterious Helen with the missing earring who Tate is desperate for the police to find to corroborate her story. And then we go back to the beginning, and hear the story slightly differently, with a few more details added. Just when we think we have the story sorted in our heads, we go back to the beginning again until eventually the whole, unexpected truth comes out.
This is such an original way of writing a psychological thriller and I was enthralled throughout. Highly recommended. A 5+ star book!
This is such a very cleverly written book. For a while I was a little lost, then suddenly everything clicked into place and I was amazed at the complexity of the plot which unravelled, and then unravelled some more. I haven’t read a Ruch Mancini novel previously but I shall be doing in the future. I love a good story about justice being served, and I was gripped all the way through this one. A definite ‘must read’. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the early copy.
Tate Kinsella, an out of work actress, currently temping at the Eastgate office of a French bank. On the night of the works Christmas party, Tate goes out onto the roof terrace, to escape the people she has nothing in common with. Sitting on the ledge , the wrong side of the safety barrier, is a woman who appears distraught.
From the Prologue we think we know what happens. Do we really though?
This was a story with so many leads, very cleverly plotted and executed. When I thought I had it straight in my head, knew what was happening, off it went with another twist. Nothing is as it seems. Which of Tate’s tales do you believe? It was definitely a “just one more page” book, read in one day!
There were some pretty dark themes in the story, but all handled well and sensitively.
One to recommend.
Thank you NetGalley.
There's so many twists and turns to this plot it is hard to decide if you believe Tate's evidence about the death at the office or not. Has she been involved or is she innocent as claimed. If she is innocent, why does she change her story? This will keep you guessing to the end and still keep in your mind after that.
To start with I was quite bemused as to how this story was going to develop. I wasn’t disappointed, very clever and almost deceptively simple. This book is a real brain teaser. I found this an exceptional read. One of my favourites this year.
Blimey, what a ride! So many twists and turns and barely time to catch my breath before we were swerving off again in a different direction.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can see it as a TV series. It's dark and unpredictable. It's hard, and sometimes impossible to see the next twist coming. It's also a positive statement about the strength of women. I loved it!
So good!
Tate attends a party at the office where she works as a temp. The following evening she returns to the building and soon after, a body falls to the ground.. as Tate offers her witness statement, more information comes to light and she is arrested for the woman's murder.
What then follows is a complicated twist and plot that I won't give away.
A great story and satisfying end.
