Really great book, I liked the anon character Melanie but I did predict where the story was going which was a shame. Still well written and had my attention throughout. Would recommend !

On the whole this was a good solid read. Despite the fact it didn’t really stand out in any meaningful way, I did finish it and I enjoyed it overall.

With her recent promotion to junior partner, Melanie's sense of accomplishment is at an all-time high. The horizon brightens further as she crosses paths with Hugo Field, a man who intrigues her in various ways. However, amidst her newfound happiness, unsettling emails begin to infiltrate her inbox. These messages bear the hallmarks of someone privy to her concealed history, a closely guarded secret she has strived to bury. The emergence of this mysterious correspondent threatens to shatter the fragile equilibrium she has meticulously constructed.

Within the pages of this exceptional thriller lies a relentless tale of suspense. As the narrative unfurls, the enigmatic emails raise the specter of impending catastrophe, casting doubts upon every facet of Melanie's life. The intricate web of twists and turns keeps readers riveted, their curiosity consistently piqued as they navigate the labyrinth of uncertainty alongside the protagonist. In a masterful display of storytelling, the author maintains an air of intrigue that persists until the very last page.

The novel boasts an abundance of jolting revelations, each one meticulously timed to send shockwaves through the narrative. These unexpected developments contribute to an atmosphere of palpable tension, ensuring that the story remains gripping and unpredictable from start to finish. Personally, I found myself captivated by the relentless procession of surprises and unforeseen events.

In summary, this remarkable work stands as a testament to the thriller genre's finest attributes. With a narrative that continually defies expectations and an aura of suspense that lingers throughout, the novel presents an unmissable reading experience. The narrative's capacity to keep readers in a state of perpetual anticipation is both commendable and exhilarating. Without a doubt, I thoroughly enjoyed every spine-tingling moment, making this a must-read for any enthusiast of riveting mysteries and suspenseful storytelling.#TheLawyer #NetGalley

Valerie keogh is among my top favorite authors and she didn't disappoint with this book. While I had read the book previously published, it was great to re read this book packed with suspense and twists you won't see coming ! I'm so impatient to read more of Valerie Keogh's books !!

This book was good. A quick read. The main character was developed enough in order for the reader to have some connection. It followed the same path as other thrillers, I saw it coming but don’t want to ruin it for future readers.

Melanie makes junior partnership with Masters Corporate Law in The Lawyer by Valerie Keogh. But trying to leave her past behind didn't mean Melanie was ever going to escape it. Melanie starts getting anonymous emails that only say "Anne Edwards" and then other threatening messages.

The Lawyer is a good psychological thriller with a surprise ending. It was nice how things tied up to a satisfying ending.

This is the second book I've read by Valerie Keogh and it was an okay read, but nothing that will stick in my memory. Melanie is a corporate lawyer, doing well in her career but haunted by guilt over something that happened in her past. Now, it seems that past is coming back to haunt her in other ways too.

It's not too much of a spoiler to say that this is yet another story in which someone devotes their entire life to exacting revenge for some past slight, something which I feel happens far more in fiction than it ever does in real life.

It was an engaging enough read but there were no big surprises - I guessed the "Anne Edwards" connection before it was revealed and the identity of the villain was fairly clearly signposted. (There were a couple of things about said villain which really didn't seem credible - but I can't say more than that without spoilers.)

There's one of those massive "now let me tell you the whole plan" exposition dumps from the villain near the end - and, I'll admit, one final twist which I didn't anticipate.

An undemanding escapist read but nothing that will stick in my memory.

Thank you for the opportunity to read and review!

I like nothing more than opening the first page of a new book but when that book is by one of my favourite writers... Keogh has surpassed herself in this tale of woe about how the past find the catches up with Melanie Scott. Full of twists and turns from the get go and with a spectacular ending that I never suspected - had me gripped from page one right up to that ending.

Excellent book! I recently discovered this author and love her books. Her books are a quick read and always have unexpected twists and turns. I did figure out part of the plot but not the entire twist! Great ending. I recommend this book and her other books also! Thank you to NetGalley, Valerie Keogh and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Melanie is proud to be promoted to junior partner and things are looking even better when she meets a man called Hugo Field. Then she starts to get emails from someone who seems to know about her past and the secret she has tried to keep hidden. Could this person be about to ruin everything in her life? A brilliant thriller that keeps you guessing until the end. Plenty of shocks and twists, I loved it!

Overall a good quick read.
Plenty of red herrings although i have to say some of it i guessed.
Just the right amount of murder ,twists and turns.
An enjoyable and not to taxing tale.
One thing i particularly liked was that the back story wasn't dragged out for to long (which is often the case with some authors.)
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.

A bit predictable in places but an enjoyable read with a some what strong main character that like the rest of us have our moments when things aren’t as good as it seems and Melanie is a character that seems more realistic because of that, I had one person in mind who was sending the emails but the author had thrown in quite a few red herrings to try and keep the readers guessing. My only criticism is that this is being advertised as a brand new book when it has been previously published under a different title and that needs to be made clear.

Melanie Scott has the perfect life until someone starts sending her disturbing messages and threatening to expose a secret from her past.
Melanie decides to take matters into her own hands, but not everything always goes smoothly.
Although at some points you can guess or suspect what is going to happen, the book did not lose my attention at any point.
The short chapters and fast-paced style as well as an intriguing plot and a strong female character make The Lawyer a novel that reads in one sitting.

Melanie has worked hard to become a junior partner in a law firm. She and her colleagues are celebrating when she notices a man who seems to have eyes only for her. She hands him her card with her email address, when he speaks to her and asks her out.
She is thrilled to receive an email from him asking for a date.
The same night, she receives an email from an anonymous person, with two words. A name she never wanted to hear or think of again. A name she is desperately trying to escape.
Who could this 'nobody' be? She feels threatened, and decides to find out who is trying to destroy her future.

Another unputdownable novel from Valerie Keogh. I read this in one sitting.
It is fast paced and definitely disturbing. I have to say, I did figure out who the anonymous emailer was quite early in the book, but wasn't absolutely certain I was correct, as there were pointers to other characters.
However, I cannot believe Melanie did not suspect Hugo at all. After all, she had just given him her email address.

All in all a really thrilling, suspenseful novel which I recommend.
