Sydney has kept quiet about her best friend murder for forty years because she was threatened with a photo of someone she cares a great deal about. When the son of her best friend Drew learns the real reason about his father death she decides she can’t keep being silent and goes to confront the man she thinks is responsible and is shock to find out later he died and because of it she open up a can of worms that someone wants to stay close. Sydney meets detective Gale and her partner who agrees to look at the case as they dive deeper into it they can’t help but wonder if Sydney is involved because everything seems to go back to her despite this Sydney and Gale attraction for each other grows as they get closer to the truth. I enjoy this read I like all the red herrings adore the relationship Gale had with her father who gives her advice.

I received a free copy of this book from Bold Stroke Books through Netgalley.com I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Sydney has been sitting on evidence in the murder of her best friend scared to come forward after death threats to his son. Now the son is grown and has a daughter of his own and has found out about how his father died. Sydney also wants to learn what happened to her best friend and get some justice but she receives another threat. This time it doesn't deter her and she goes to the police.

I really enjoyed this story. I find with a lot of lesbian mystery romances it's more about the romance than the actual mystery but this was not. The cold case of what happened to Wyatt is a twisty winding road that has many possible suspects, missing evidence, a mole in the NYPD and a tap on Sydneys computer.

Gale and her partner Tommy take on the case. I love their interaction and their nicknames for each other. You can feel the closeness these two have from working together for so long. When Gale and Sydney meet there is an instant attraction but both have wounded hearts and then there is the cold case investigation between them. This is a slow burn romance and it felt right, and natural.

Well written with a great mystery and so many layers to a brutal murder that happened many many years ago. It seems MM romances are all the rage but lesbian stories don't get as much press or love. This is definitely a good one. Not every character is gay and the story line will have you second guessing yourself over and over.

Sydney Hansen’s best friend was murdered 40 years ago and because of a personal threat she didn’t come forward to help the minimal investigation the police did at the time. Now another menacing note comes with a threat directed towards her thirteen year old niece. But this time she takes what she knows to the police and meets Detective Gale Sterling. Gale and her police partner take the threat seriously and are skilled at working cold cases.

I usually love police procedural stories but I had a hard time getting into this one. I don’t know if it is because I’m tired from getting up in the middle of the night to watch World Cup Soccer games or if is the story itself. But there is a lot of information given in the beginning and it isn’t until about the 20 percent point where I began to feel like I understood the basics of the case. The author has a way with words occasionally choosing words I had to look up to know their meaning. The story has twists and turns, some expected and some not, but it did hold my attention.

I’m giving it 3.5 stars and rounding up because I really do blame my tiredness for struggling to engage more with the story. Thank you to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for the ARC and I am leaving a voluntary review.

An intriguing story about a murder that happened 40 years ago. A bit of a ‘whodunnit’. The detective assigned to the case is attracted to the woman who brought it to her attention. However Gale (the detective) was not entirely sure that Sydney (the instigator of the investigation) was not involved. The author every so often puts something in that makes the reader (or at least me anyway) also occasionally wonder if Sydney is completely innocent. It kept my attention and had me speculating on possible killers. . I felt the ending was a bit rushed but I did enjoy reading this book.

Cold Case Heat by Mary P. Burns is based on a real event in the author's life. It took me a bit to get into the story, but overall, a good story, and I read it fairly quickly.

Sydney Hansen receives a threat in a very cold murder case that sends her to the police for help, where she finds more than justice with Detective Gale Sterling.

Wyatt, his son Drew and his daughter Izzy (or Isabelle); I really liked Isabelle. I enjoyed these characters and liked the author's writing and how she unfolded the story.

Cold Case Heat had an interesting plot and outcome. I would read more by this author. I would recommend this book and this author.

Cold Case Heat will have you guessing "who done it" until the very end. Gale & Syd are relatable in depth characters, their relationship and issues progress organically and I really enjoyed that. This was not one of those fast paced books that captivated me but it did keep my interest and had a steady pace. I would definitely be interested in reading more by this Author

I was so excited to read this book and while I enjoyed it, it wasn’t as exciting as I was hoping for. It was slow at the beginning with too many characters to keep track of then all of a sudden everything happened at once.

Syd Hansen has waited a long time for the murderer of her best friend to be caught. She has gone to visit the man she long suspected was behind it. Soon after her visit he dies. Now someone is still targeting her to keep quiet by sending her a picture of her friends granddaughter. Syd isn’t going to wait any longer.
She’s met with detectives now and believe they will look in the case, what is doesn’t know is they suspect her.
Things could turn ugly fast.
But detective Gale Sterling is going to work this case hard and fast. Along the way she begins to see Syd as more than just a potential witness.
This has a lot of twists to figure out whodunit. And still it’ll take you to the end to find out.

DNF. I was quite interested in reading this book based on the descriptive synopsis. However, my interest level dramatically declined as I began reading the book. What happened over forty years ago was immediately introduced along with a dozen names that held no meaning for me. I was lost and not in the way that one hopes when reading a consuming novel. The story didn’t improve much for me when I decided I could not finish this book. 2 stars

I received an ARC from Bold Strokes Books and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
