"The Wife in the Photo" is a gripping and suspenseful psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. The story is told from the perspective of a housekeeper who is determined to uncover the truth about her former friend's murder, even if it means putting herself in danger. The plot is full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end.

The author does a fantastic job of creating a tense and atmospheric setting, with a sprawling mansion filled with secrets and hidden agendas. The characters are well-drawn and complex, with motivations that are not always clear, and the dialogue is sharp and believable.

What sets this book apart from other thrillers is the emotional depth and nuance that the author brings to the story. The housekeeper's complicated feelings towards the victim and her husband add an extra layer of complexity to the plot, and the themes of grief, betrayal, and revenge are handled with sensitivity and insight.

Overall, "The Wife in the Photo" is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers. It's a gripping and sophisticated novel that will keep you guessing until the very end. I highly recommend it.

3 1/2 stars rounded up to 4. This book (especially the audio) was a bit of a slow burn for me. It was too easy to guess "whodunnit" and I found all the characters a bit irritating and frustratingly stupid in some instances. It was however well narrated, and I liked the fact that a man narrated the male character and a woman, the female one. I have to say I preferred Emily Shiner's other book that I read much more (You can't hide).
The basic story line is that Evan's wife falls down the porch stairs and dies. Ariel suspects that Evan pushed her and takes on the job of housekeeper to find proof of his guilt. Meanwhile Evan's 14-year-old daughter is being very difficult, and Ariel has a hard time dealing with her. No more to avoid any spoiler alerts.

This was such a powerful book that I think will stick with me for a long time. I love a psychological thriller and the darker the better. I think the dual POVs added to the intrigue and had me questioning everything and everyone. I felt like the twists and turns were plotted perfectly to make you feel like you knew the truth til you are 'drip fed' another piece of the puzzle. All the characters had unlikeable, dubious elements to their personality leaving me asking constant questions. I love the fact that the end was left open to interpretation. A great 5 Star read that I couldn't read fast enough.

While the overall plot is excellent and full of potential, there were just too many implausible twists that took away from the story. I listened to the audiobook though and have to say that both narrators are really good and may have played a role in ensuring that I finished the book.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc.

First by this author and as cliche as it is, it literally had me on the edge of my seat. Great audio to keep my interest but the storyline was fantastic. Can't wait to check out more by this author!

A slow start and thought it was abit predictable. Was entertaining enough to keep me interested with multiple unreliable narrators. .

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this audio book! This thriller had a very intriguing premise, but it was just a little too over the top for me. The plot was unrealistic and outlandish, and the characters fell flat in their development. There are definitely interesting plot twists that keep the reader guessing throughout.

The Wife in the Photo is a psychological thriller full of red herrings and twists. The story is told from the point of view of Lola through her diary after she is found dead from a fall, her husband, daughter and new housekeeper. Fans of this genre will enjoy the book but I found it far fetched with an unsatisfactory conclusion.

DNF :(

I just didn't connect to the story and the narrators were irritating to me. I'm not against trying this again in the future but just didn't work for me.

"I pick up the photograph from their mantelpiece and carefully wipe away the dust. The beautiful wife. Supposedly happily married and enjoying a family vacation. I know her husband killed her. And Iโ€™m going to make him payโ€ฆ"

This story started out so strong until it wasn't. I did enjoy the guessing game part but some were just confusing for me.
There're a few twist I liked to keep me interested but i didn't really care about the characters since they were not really likable.
Some parts were far fetched which can easily be neglected to still enjoy the story however it became a bit ridiculous and forced getting to the end.
The ending was absolutely ludicrous.

Thanks NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this Audiobook

This book was a very entertaining, fast-paced thriller. I loved the change in perspectives throughout the book, and was very invested in how everything played out. The ending was predictable, and perhaps a bit unbelievable (a final scene at the house), but getting to the end was still enjoyable. I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

This was a solid mystery. I was fooled for most of it and was satisfied with the big reveal.

I received an advance copy. All thoughts are my own.

Wow, this was crazy! What did I actually just read?

I like Emily's style of writing, and I love this genre. I would say the plot is a little overdone though. It's still a fun read to guess along with. Entertaining for sure.
