Holy cow, the twists in this one kept me glued through the final moment!! Loved the narrator. Thrills, suspense, danger. Highly recommended!
This was a pretty entertaining book with good narrators, but very predictable. I guessed most of the twists long before they were revealed but I was still enjoying the book for the first 3/4. The ending got very muddled and unbelievable which was a shame since it had started out so promising. The characters weren't especially believable to me and the whole book required a healthy dose of 'suspension of disbelief'.
It wasn't a bad book - - I just think it could have been better.
This was a great popcorn thriller, which features my favorite, an unreliable narrator! There are a lot of twists and turns in this book that will definitely keep you at the edge of your seat. The ending, I felt, was a bit of a let down. It wasn't how I pictured the story to go down but overall, still a very entertaining and disturbing psychological thriller.
Thank you Book outside Audio and NetGalley for ALC of this book.
Lola Warner recently died and left her husband Evan and daughter Jessica. It was ruled as an accidental death but Ariel is convinced that Evan killed Lola. Now Ariel is determined to save Jessica and get justice for Lola.
I could not stop listening to this super suspenseful book, I needed to know how it ends. As soon as I thought I knew what is going on, a new twist popped up.
Todd Kramer and Kate Handford did a great job on narration. They portrayed their characters well.
While I’m not a huge fane of the title of this book. I’m here to say don’t judge a book by its title! This slow burn had lots of twists and turns and exceeded my expectations.
This one was 3.5 stars for most of the read, even though I was pretty sure early on what the big twist was (it's pretty hard to not guess it with all the clues obviously dropped). Then the last 10 percent of the book just fell apart. Events happened that were not at all believable and the ending was super rushed with lots of loose ends. This wasn't a terrible read, but there are much better reads out there.
Okay, so this one started off promising. The first 40-50% really had me excited and wanting more. But as soon the mysterious details were uncloaked, the book sort of went downhill for me. The last 10% of the book really needed to be condensed to about 2% and it really got unrealistic. I will say, for a reader that prefers text over audio, the audiobook was very well done and I enjoyed the readers. I also enjoyed Emily Shiner’s writing style and it kept me going.
3.5 rounded up to 4 stars.
“The Wife in the Photo” by Emily Shiner is a fun psychological thriller that you will not be able to put down.
With plenty of twists and turns, I listened to the entire book in one sitting and enjoyed every minute of it.
I can’t wait to read/listen to more books by Emily Shiner.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me access to this ALC. I’m ready to recommend it to all the book lovers I know.
I love a good thriller with all the twists and turns, and this one definitely had plenty of attempted twists. Unfortunately, most could be easily recognized early on, so it wasn't terribly shocking as you work through the plot. That was, until the very end. But.... that twist was so unrealistic I did not feel like it really boosted my overall feelings about the book.
I listened to the audiobook version of this book, and the male narrator left plenty to be desired. He was unenthusiastic and monotone. The story would have been better with a little inflection from him. However, I think the female narrator did a great job, and did give the book some redemption.
Evan must be the most incompetent, useless cop ever! Among other things. This was a bit silly in parts, had its moment in others, and overall was a bit meh. There are a few great reviews, so maybe it's just not quite my cup of tea.
2 and a half stars rounded up to 3.
I listened to the audio version of this novel and really enjoyed the narrative/story.
This is my first novel by Emily Shiner, but I see she has quite a lot more novels so will be looking into reading more of her books.
We meet Ariel who is a housekeeper to Evan and his daughter Jessica who have recently lost their wife/mother Lola. Lola died through an accident and there is some controversy of whether it was an accident or was it something sinister. Ariel is going to find out as she has a secret of her very own.
I thought that the characters were very well written out and I particularly enjoyed listening to Lola's perspective in this book.
Told through multiple point of views, I did find this audio book quite confusing at times and had to go back a bit but this does not really take much away from the novel at all.
This novel was incredibly well written story line and I really enjoyed the story and thought this novel was cleverly plotted and written.
If you enjoy a good thrilling read then this novel will be perfect for you.
Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for allowing me a copy in exchange for my honest review.
This was an interesting read but you have to stick through the beginning because it's a bit choppy. It jumps from character to character without giving you much information to build on. If you stick with it, it's worth it. It's an entertaining read.
I've really enjoyed some of Emily's other books and they kept me on my toes but unfortunately I found this one very predictable. It was still well written and overall enjoyable just didn't have me shocked at any point.
This book was definitely a suspense rollacoaster ride! So many secrets, surprises, twists and turns that the author kept you on edge until the explosive ending.
I had an audiobook for this novel and it was a great way to experience the book. The narrators were very easy to understand, protrayed the characters well, and kept your interest with the expressions in their voice. I would highly recommend the audiobook.
Special thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to listen to this advanced audio copy of the book.
Very suspenseful and honestly I did not think the ending was predictable. There were several twisty surprises in this one. This book is narrated from the perspectives of three main characters, all with different motivations. I loved that every character in this book was clearly keeping some kind of dirty little secret. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for a chance to read and review this book in exchange for an honest review.
WOW! I did not see the ending of this one coming. This entire book was a wild and twisty ride - it was great! I absolutely could not put it down and had to see what was going to happen next. Super fast-paced, suspenseful and downright shocking - so well done. And the ending... I'm still thinking about the, now what? and wondering what the character's fates will be. I'd love a sequel or at least a follow-up to know who makes it out of this one alive!
This was my second Emily Shiner book and it was another absolute homerun! I LOVED THIS BOOK! I listened to the audio version and the narration was great. Five stars all the way around!
This one was an odd one for me. I hate to say it but towards the end there were too many twists and turns. I’m still confused about the real killer. What’s reality and what’s not in the characters thoughts. Just so much to keep straight. All in all it did keep you guessing
This book follows Ariel who becomes a housekeeper for Evan, who she believes has killed his wife. I really enjoyed this book at the start as it has multiple points of view and I love a good domestic thriller! However I felt that you knew a lot of the answers towards the first half of this book and it was a bit predictable. I listened to this book via audio and I felt that it was very easy to listen to.
I just finished The Wife In The Photo. It was a great read and had many twists and turns to keep you guessing. I would highly recommend this book if you like murder and suspense!
I don’t normally go the audio route with books so this was different for me. I think if I would have read the book I would have enjoyed it more. I found it slightly predictable the more you got into the book and the ending was also predictable.
