Unfortunately I wasn't able to get into it. It has potential but still needs some work. I look forward to checking out the updated version. I will not post on socials until I have read the new version.

This book wasn't for me. I didn't find the characters well developed and the writing was disjointed and made some parts confusing.

World building was ok and the laws and politics were well defined.

With some character building, this could be a good book.

Curse of the Fallen by A.K. Lockwood is a story set where there are epic battles, questionable alliances and every decision made has consequences. We follow along with the main character, who deals with mysterious organizations and, of course our favorite, traveling to dangerous places. I was quickly drawn into the book to the very end.

Thank you Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an ecopy of this book in exchange for my review.

Curse of the Fallen is a dark fantasy set in a world full of war and conflict. The story follows the main character as he journeys through the perilous world around him.

This book was an enjoyable read. I feel like the politics in the book were well explained and there was a good amount of world building.

The story was interesting however I felt the writing lacked cohesion which made the story feel slightly disjointed at times.

This book would benefit from more character development as some of the characters weren’t as memorable as others and I began to struggle to remember who was who.

Overall, this is an interesting concept that has a lot of potential.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with this arc.

I admit that I DNF’d the book at about 10%. As I received his book from NetGalley in exchange for a review I wanted to give a proper review and reasoning.

To start, I’m so happy to see a debut translated author in America. It’s refreshing honestly. It is a work in process though and I’m sure it comes with translation differences and experience. The first chapter gives a talk of the geopolitics of the world. It builds it beautifully but reads like an essay summarizing the current affairs and what’s happened in the recent past to submit for a grade. The first bit that I got through was slow, had grammar errors, and it was all over the place. The main character is built up as a mysterious man visited in the middle of the night and then Angus - which is is name - starts the search of the killer. It was the start of a let down for excitement building to just have his name thrown so nonchalantly like so.

As a woman, to read of a man so beautiful that every woman fawns over his isn’t my favorite. It made me uneasy and not like the main character.

I wish I could have liked it. I wish all the best for the author truly. I hope for more to come. I just simply don’t believe this is for me.

This book fell really flat for me and I DNF it at 8% in. The writing was all over the place, some pages had 3-4 separate paragaphs which made reading it feel very disjointed and I struggled to immerse myself.

I was not a fan of how the start of the book was written. I love wordbuilding but this was almost like reading a history book with facts just being told at you. When we finally did get into the story, you would go from reading about the characters to a paragraph where the it's like the author decides to break that fourth wall and start the next sentence 'it would be appropriate for me to mention here' and then launch into an explanation about something the characters had said.

I found this very confusing and I really don't like to not finish a book but you can tell from the get go that's it has not been properly edited or proof read. I do wonder if a lot of this has got lost in the translation because it definitely has potential but sadlt was just lacking for me. Maybe in the future I will try and finish this once it's properly edited and published.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for this ARC!

Curse of the Fallen City by A.K. Lockwood.
The story is set in a world full of wars and conflicts, where every decision has its consequences. However, despite the heavy atmosphere, reading this novel is „pure pleasure, according to the editors from publishing houses”. The novel is full of action, descriptions of battles, and side plots. The pace of the action is rapid, and the adventure is epic. The main character finds himself in the midst of a centuries-old conflict between mysterious organizations. As you travel with him through dangerous places and meet his unexpected allies, you delve into an intriguing world where every decision has consequences. This book will completely captivate you, and you won't be able to put it down until the very end. The action is fast-paced, and the whole story is presented in a truly cinematic style.
An OK read. Slow but readable. 3*.
