In summary: Poetry focussing on Black history. Advocacy while highlighting the plight, heartbreak and successes of African Americans.
This is my first book by Kayla M. Stone.
The author opened my eyes and my mind. Their words on the page could be construed as confronting, and yet the depiction of African American history justice in my opinion.
I found this work jarring and thought provoking, and indeed I felt better educated once I finished the book.
Readers of this book should read with an open mind to allow the richness of the work to hit its mark. I enjoyed Kayla’s work. 4 stars.
I wish that her words broke the wall inside the white privilege discover the long sea expose how's works racism with toxic dynamic still white allies. Thanks by tell tone skinned can be magic and releaser.
I did enjoy some of the poems in this book, but a lot of them just didn’t sit with me, I didn’t understand them or maybe the writing style just wasn’t for me.
I liked the idea of the book and love to read about the black American history.
