This book made me gasp at all the twists and turns in it! The story moved at a good pace and I had a hard time putting it down once I started reading it. It's a well done horror book that I would recommend to those who enjoy horror. Special Thank You to Kiontai Lawson, Patricia & Marie Publishing Co, and NetGalley for allowing me to read a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately this book was a DNF for me as the kindle version has a formatting error that made this too hard to read. It is now unavailable for download onto the NetGalley app so I had to stop reading.
Set in a captivating small town, Silenced delves into the complexities of family, identity, and tradition. The story follows David, a character torn between the weight of familial expectations and his own yearnings. Trapped within the walls of an unwanted house, he uncovers a sinister family ritual that challenges his very existence. The tension escalates as he confronts his aunt's enigmatic persona, propelling him on a journey to uncover the truth behind their dark history. Amidst the turmoil, David's quest for self-discovery becomes a captivating exploration of morality, as he grapples with the blurred lines between right and wrong.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for allowing me the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest review.
I downloaded this to my kindle for easy reading and I was upset with the formatting. There were issues that made this a difficult read for me. There were random pieces of sentences that were missing the first half of it, sentences that didn't make sense with some wording structure and paragraph structures that cut sentences in the middle. Due to all of these, it was hard to follow the story and increased my frustration with reading this novel. Overall the plot was good and it would have been better if the formatting issues were fixed, as it would make it an easier and faster read. There is the part right in the beginning where you want to scream at the person for truly going against their gut, typical horror movie style. Hoping that the formatting issues can be fixed to allow other folks the opportunity to enjoy the plot and twists!
UPDATE:
I found a different way to read this novel that didn't have formatting errors. This was such a quick read! I was able to read it in a few hours. After gaining a better view of the plot, I truly found out how enticing it was. This really captures your attention. This was told, mainly, from 2 perspectives, David's and the detective's. Once you got towards the end, there is no way you can put the book down, you'll know exactly what moment that is when you read it. This was a fun novel to read that was a bit different than other thrillers. Kiontai Lawson did a great job with the plot and building of her characters. Such twists at the end, phew! Would definitely recommend to others!
I enjoyed this book . Although the ending felt a bit rushed to be it was a quick read that kept me turning the pages .
The plot of this story had promise but the writing was stilted, it didn't flow and the language was very plain. There was a strange way of placing one character's words right next to another character's words which was very confusing.
The concept of the story could have produced a creepy, suspenseful tale with a dark atmosphere. But it was more like a series of gross scenes interspersed with clunky chapters about the main character and the detective.
The detective made some astounding leaps of deduction and much of the story was quite unbelievable. The characters' behaviour was not consistent. The ending felt simplified.
I received this arc from netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
