James Patterson never fails to hook me in with an Alex Cross book and this one hits the mark once again!
Brilliantly written, a lot to keep you guessing with multiple different crimes all happening at the same time. A quick read as it is impossible to put down!
Gripping gritty thriller! James Patterson latest in the series of Alex Cross, can be read as a stand alone.
As Dr Alex Cross is investigating a serial killer whose killings are becoming more frequent, an American Airline plane is shot down and he is pulled into the FBI investigation at the same time. His wife Bree is also involved in missing persons enquiries which may involve that plane.
Brilliantly written and plotted, this is masterful storytelling, and hugely recommended. I really enjoyed the characters, plot and the action style. The title doesn’t seem to relate to the story as I never felt Alex was under threat himself, however I loved it!
Thank you NetGalley for the early read.
Very good but not totally convincing after a brilliant, exciting start the book becomes multi layered and maybe too many different stories going on?
I remain a big fan of JP but not quite 5 stars. Plenty of Bree, not enough Alex for me.
Thanks to Net Galley and Random House UK Cornerstone for the chance to read and review.
Alex Cross has his hands full as a loaded American Airlines jet is shot down and all on board killed. He is tasked with finding the terrorist who committed this evil act. At the same time he is trying to find the Dead Hours killer. A murderer who targets young men in the early hours and then shoots out their eyes and covers them with a sheet. Meanwhile his wife, Bree is asked to look into the disappearance of the best friend of her boss. This multi layered story combining a multitude of evil acts has Alex racing against time to prevent further bloodshed. I enjoyed this fast paced story with each page loaded with tension and fear interspersed with normal family life. Another excellent book in this series. My only criticism is the title, it didn’t seem appropriate to me.
So this one was okay but not my favourite Alex Cross read. Firstly, the title made me think he was going to be hunted like in previous books and be more centred around this but that wasn’t the case. There was a lot of different stories going on in this book which I felt in parts were a little dragged out and for whatever reason I just felt bored with the shenanigans of his family life. That being said James Patterson. Is a great writer and I will look forward to the next instalment.
This is a three/four hander - Alex Cross is seeking the 'Dead Hours' murderer who kills young men in the early hours of the morning and then is drawn into a major investigation into someone shooting down a passenger plane. The third involves his wife Bree who's daughter asks her to meet a friend with a problem, who they then find killed and her boss is worried about a missing colleague. And of course she has the contacts to make connections a normal PI wouldn't manage.
I found the whole thing clumsily written and difficult to follow, particularly as Alex's segments were written in the first person. I found it a bit unlikely that two major, unrelated crimes would land on one team's desk at the same time. I was surprised that such a prolific writer would write in such a fashion.
So while the individual stories were interesting, the way they were presented just didn't work for me. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House UK and Cornerstone for allowing me access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
James Patterson writes novels with ease. His successful Alex Cross series shows no signs of growing stale. There is the main (quite unique) plot line but many sub plots run and intertwine with this throughout the book. Fast paced and entertaining, just what you need to read on a winter's afternoon.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House UK for the advance copy of this book.
"Alex Cross Must Die," the thirty-first installment in James Patterson's enduringly popular series, is a gripping and relentless page-turner that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. Detectives Alex Cross and John Sampson find themselves thrust into a high-stakes case when an American Airlines plane is brought down by a stolen, rare machine gun. The tension ratchets up as they race against time to track down the culprits, and Patterson's skillful storytelling ensures you're hooked from the very first page.
The novel doesn't stop there. In a brilliant twist, Cross and Sampson must also grapple with a cunning serial killer terrorizing young men in a series of murders known as the 'Dead Hours' cases. The parallel narratives create a whirlwind of suspense and action, offering a relentless rollercoaster of a read.
Patterson's ability to blend unpredictability, fast-paced storytelling, and well-developed characters is showcased brilliantly in this book. The long-running relationships between Cross, his family, and colleagues add depth to the story, making it a satisfying read.
“Alex Cross Must Die" is a masterclass in thrilling storytelling, and if you haven't experienced the Cross series yet, it's high time to dive into this mesmerizing world of crime-solving and suspense.
Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley, opinions are my own.
Alex Cross gets a call to drop everything and get to the airport. He and his long time partner John Sampson are required to investigate a plane crash, after some inquiries it seems the plane was bought down by a machine gun that only a few people could have access to. At the same time the duo are on the hunt for a serial killer who is killing young men.
With the pressure ramping up, this is one the most difficult times these two detectives have ever faced.
Two different murders with two totally different motives for why they are doing what they do. In a race against time can Alex Cross crack two of the most difficult cases of his career before more lives are lost?
James Patterson continues to show the world his talent with the Alex Cross series.
Time after time he proves he is the gold standard of thriller writing, this is a truly wonderful piece of work which the reader will love. Alex Cross is most definitely a legend. Just brilliant.
Another exciting crime thriller from one of my most favourite Authors .Non stop action ,brilliant characters great storylines lots of tension and holding your breath moments all the way through. A very clever and entertaining read look forward to reading the next book in the series .Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC.
The latest installment in the Alex Cross series sees Cross and Sampson tasked with catching the Dead Hours serial killer. However, when a plane is shot down killing everyone on board, the pair have to tackle both cases - can they help solve both before another catastrophic event happens?
Alex's wife Bree also has a major plot line this time round, investigating the disappearance of her boss's best friend, Leigh Archer. Can she find the answers?
As expected, an easy read, exactly what you expect from a James Patterson book, and exactly why I return time after time. I'm interested to see where the next book goes, this one was left ready for a big storyline to follow. I will also admit to being very confused by the book title, Alex isn't the target of the events in the story at all, so to me the title doesn't work very well.
4.5⭐
I'll be honest it's been a while since Alex and I have spent any time together. But it certainly didn't feel that way. As I began to read Alex's latest thrilling adventure.
Which starts off with a bang, quite literally, when a passenger jet about to land at Reagan National is shot down and all aboard are killed.
Which leads Alex and his detective partner Sampson to be told to drop everything and get to Reagan ASAP.
Only they are currently involved in the hunt for a serial killer. Who has been nicknamed the DEAD HOURS KILLER and so they already have their hands full.
But now the hunt for a terrorist has begun and a task force created. So Alex and Sampson are going to have to work night and day if they are to solve both cases.
And with a fast-paced storyline, plenty of tension, twists and turns. This was a brilliant read and it reminded me what a cracking series this is and I'm definitely going to catch up with the books I've missed out on. Especially as it seems a lot has happened to Alex and I'm intrigued to learn more particularly with how this one ended.
The next instalment of the Alex Cross series continues with lots of the normal drama and twists and turns.
I must admit this one didn’t grab me as much as all the previous books. Normally I just can’t put it down, but this one just didn’t have that same pull for me.
I’m confused by the title, in quite a few previous story lines, Alec is the target, however in this one, he is in no way the one that is being hunted down.
I did enjoy the book and how Bree’s case tangles in with Alex’s, as well as how his children are caught up in the cases too.
Definitely recommend reading if you love the Alec Cross series and I will be looking out for the next story, hoping that edge comes back to the next book like the other 30 odd books in this series had.
I always love reading books from the Alex Cross series and this was no exception! The pace was good and I didn’t wanna put the book down!
Alex Cross is back in another fast paced, jam packed crime thriller. I absolutely love this series and cannot get enough of Alex Cross and his family.
What I love most is that each book is crammed with multiple storylines. It's never just one crime, it's usually 2 or more and that's not including the storyline around the family. I enjoy being reunited with the characters book after book and seeing them develop further and how their lives change. Like c'mon Nana Mama is on YouTube now!!
This is the longest standing series I've ever read. How does the author even manage to maintain the angst and the suspense throughout is beyond me but I'm.thankful but I'm hooked.
Can't wait for book 33. Thank you to Netgalley, James Patterson and Random House uk for gifting me this book in exchange for my own honest review.
Wow... we are into the 30s in this series now and I still get excited when I spot a new book. For a series that has gone on so long, one a year for over 30 years I guess, it is a wonder that the books are still so fresh. But they are and long may that continue. Ignoring the main stories for a moment, it has also been a privilege as a reader to witness the evolution of Alex as a character. His relationships, romantic and friendships, his family, all growing up, and living their own lives. But it's not a family saga so I'll get to the point.
When the book opens we learn that Alex and Sampson are struggling with their current case. Someone is ambushing young men in the early hours. Killing them in a rather interesting way. The investigation has somewhat hit the skids and with the body count rising, they really need a break. But, instead of that, they are both called to assist in a wholly different case. That of a plane exploding and crashing on Regan Airport runway. It appears that it was shot down. With a very high body count and no knowing how much this could escalate, it's all hands to the pump.
As well as Alex and Sampson multitasking their two cases, if that wasn't enough (and believe me, it is) we also have Bree on the cases of a missing CEO and a young track athlete. AND... the cherry on that already well calorific cake is that Nana Mama is going back to work...! I know!
If all that hasn't whetted your appetite then I am not sure what else I can say. Apart from I absolutely loved reading every single page. This is a series that I have been in from the start and I have read every book, mostly in the right order, and loved every one. They suck me in, play with my mind a tad along the way, and spit me out at the end, exhausted but satisfied. Every Single Time. And this time was no exception. Just waiting for the next one now...
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
I can never get enough of the Alex Cross series, they are always fast paced and with so much action going on you never know what's coming next.
Cross and Samson are trying to catch the 'Dead Hours' serial killer that has terrorised Washington DC, killing men in the early hours of the morning.
But when a major terrorist alert comes in after a plane is shot down at the DC Regan airport killing everyone on board they have been reassigned to deal with this along with the DC Metro police force.
Alex's wife Bree is equally busy with her PI business and is desperately trying to find out what has happened to the missing CEO Leigh Asher.
Are the cases connected in anyway?
Also Alex's young son is putting himself in grave danger in the hope to help his father, but is that with deadly consequences?
Another brilliant Alex Cross book.
James Patterson certainly knows how to tell a story. This is the first book of his I’ve read but won’t be the last. No wonder this is his thirty-first in the Alex Cross series. Cross’s love for his family helps him cope with the horrors of his work as a psychologist and consultant to the police. In this book, a plane is shot down, killing all on board. We know who did it but why? Will Cross be able to prevent another tragedy? Enjoy!
You can't beat an Alex Cross story and this one doesn't disappoint. Fast paced and exciting. Not sure about Nanna starting a new career in her 90's but I do love the family dynamics!
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy.
Another brilliant crime thriller in the Alex Cross series.
It’s always great to catch up with Alex and his family but with two cases to solve, he’s not at home much in this book.
There’s a killer who is striking in the early hours of the morning, called the Dead Hours killer and the body count is rising.
There’s also a nasty attack on a plane where it’s shot down and all passengers die from the impact and explosion.
Bree also has her hands full with a couple of cases as well so there’s definitely lots going on in this book.
This is a gripping crime thriller that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Random House UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
