Another fantastic instalment of the Alex Cross books. This was fast paced and kept you guessing right to the end. This is exactly what you would expect from an Alex Cross book and I can’t wait to read the next one.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this thriller of a book
wow this book had several storylines going but each were very easy to follow
the downing of a commercial flight killing all the passengers
the dead hour killer, men who were targeted and left dead covered over with a sheet
a missing ceo, a missing teenager and nanna mama is a hit on youtube
brilliant book so much happening it was hard to put down but kept me glued for hours until it was finished
A very enjoyable book. I have only read one other Alex Cross book, Triple Cross, which I wasn't impressed with but Alex Cross Must Die was far superior. The four interwoven plots were far more believable. It was still surprising that Cross would be working on cases involving a serial killer and another of shooting down of a passenger jet at the same time. Patterson keeps the pace up all through the book including Cross's wife, Bree's two cases. Maybe I missed something but wasn't sure why the title.
Definitely a good read and I will look forward to the next in the series.
This is an honest review of a complementary ARC.
No disappointments here. Thrilling page turner from start to finish. So descriptive you feel the heat of the explosions, your mouth waters at the food and the emotions of family life surrounded by the jobs that Alex and Bree are committed to doing.
Alex Cross returns! Engaging from the beginnning and easy to return to the lives of the Cross'. A very enjoyable read. My main problem (I found) was the misleading title. I kept wondering when we were going to find out why or how Alex Cross must die. I am non the wiser. Has the Cross series run its course?
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC.
James Patterson is the undisputed master of the crime thriller genre and scores another hit with Alex Cross Must Die. Following on from the previous novel, but with enough detail if you've not read it, there's plenty of action from the word go.
An American Airlines plane is shot out of the sky in a pre-planned attack which kills everyone on board. The race is on for Cross and his colleagues to find the perpetrator before they can strike again.
Throw into the mix a serial killer stalking the neighborhood and the murder of a young athlete, and there's plenty to keep the whole Cross family busy.
Alex Cross Must Die is an excellent thriller which really keeps you hooked right til the end.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this eARC.
This is a fast paced, thrilling read with lots of suspense and action. I think this book gets off to a great start that definitely had me hooked from the first page. Cross and Sampson are called to a suspected terrorist attack and work this alongside their current murder investigation. Bree is investigating two separate cases - are there links to what Cross is working on though? There are a lot of threads in the story that held my attention from start to finish. The story is written well, and flows easily and I liked that it is told through different characters, some likeable, some not. I love the short chapters in this authors books, they really keep me on my toes wondering what is coming next. I like the little glimpses into the home and personal lives of the main characters. The story really gains pace and the last quarter of the book is a riveting read where everything slowly begins to come together, and I loved the open ending with a hint of what's to come. I did enjoy this read although it didn't wow me, and my only gripe if you can call it that is with the title - I feel it has no relevance to the story and is a bit misleading. James Patterson fans will enjoy this latest book in his Alex Cross series and I'd recommend this too.
3.5 stars
Loved this book! I like the fact that it has short chapters so that you can easily read a big and then stop. (Who am I kidding that didn’t happen!!) but I know for some people, short chapters are a must!
Obviously, our main character is Alex Cross who you may already have heard if, now I have read some previous books in the series but not all of them - does it matter if you have not read them all previously? Absolutely not!
This had me gripped from the off with 3 storylines running simultaneously. Don’t be put off by that, it’s very easy to keep track and not confusing - another bonus!
I loved the writing style and it was so easy to just keep on reading as the storylines developed I just needed to know who was behind it.
I loved how whilst all this was going on we also got a little insight into the family life of Alex, and I think it is clear that his son is going to be a chip off the old block!
Whilst the first couple of storylines are resolved we still had the main one outstanding and this had me on the edge of my seat as to how it was all going to play out!
Just brilliant! James Patterson is just such a talented writer to have written so many books and still be able to create such masterpieces!
With 3 storylines this is better than ever and proves again why James Patterson and the Alex Cross series is loved worldwide
I knew I would enjoy it and it lived up to every expectation
Someone is taking down planes by machine gun so the race is on for two detectives to find out who and why and stop them before any more lives are lost. Only certain people are specialist trained to even operate such weaponry which makes the puzzle more surprising and niche and a shortlist of likely perpetrators can be made.
I wasn’t quite engaged with this storyline so raced through fairly speedily. A fairly ok read and worth ploughing on, but not really my thing overall.
If you’ve not read any in this series before, this will not affect your reading of this book. It starts with all you need to know about Alex, then straight into another gripping read from JP.
Told from a few different perspectives following both Alex and his wife Bree on their latest cases, juggled with family life. Keeps you gripped from the first to the last page. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for an advance copy of Alex Cross Must Die, the thirty-second novel to feature psychologist and detective Dr Alex Cross, set in Washington D.C. and its environs.
Alex and his friends, Detective John Sampson are summoned to a scene of carnage, an aeroplane has been brought down by machine gun fire. The gun is special and only a few people can use it so the pressure is on to find the one who did, but this not their only case as the are already hunting a serial killer, known as the dead hours killer, who is killing young men in the Metro area.
I thoroughly enjoyed Alex Cross Must Die, although I am at a loss about the title as this is one of the few books in the series where a killer does not have his sights set on Alex. It is a high octane read with plenty of action and constant developments that keeps the reader engrossed and turning the pages. It is one of the few books recently that has called me back when I’ve had to put it down, so that’s a major plus for the story telling in it.
As ever in a James Patterson novel it’s all about propulsion and action. I could quibble and say that there is little depth, but why bother when that’s not a thing. Cross and Sampson are working two serious investigations while Bree Stone, Cross’s wife, has another couple of her own and there’s still room for the personal stuff as well. It’s all going on. I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say that they all get resolved, after all, reader satisfaction with a job well done is a thing, so the interest is in how. There are some inventive ways this done and a certain amount of misdirection, but the author gives the reader an insight into the killers’ thoughts and actions so it’s not all a major surprise.
Alex Cross Must Die is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
Didn't think I'd ever say this about a James Patterson book, but a little underwhelming.
Lots of characters, a number of different unrelated plots going on throughout, which seemed to be significant but then seemed to kind of be quickly solved and forgotten about.
Not my favourite in the Alex Cross series.
It’s many, many years since I read an Alex Cross book, so a lot has happened in his life since the last one I read. However, that made little difference to my enjoyment of this book. There are three plots going on simultaneously - a serial killer, the shooting down of a commercial aeroplane and a missing CEO, which Alex’s wife Bree is looking into. It kept me on my toes and it kept me reading well into the night! As with any James Patterson book it was a joy to read and a clear five stars from me! I had just one query, why the title, ‘Alex Cross must Die?’ Did I miss something?
My thanks go to the author, the publishers and to Netgalley for an e-reader copy of this book. The review is entirely voluntary and entirely my own views.
I have enjoyed all the Alex Cross books and this is no exception. The short chapters move the book along at a fast pace and there is a lot going on with all the characters. I like the rapport between Alex and John and adore Nana Mama. Bree's investigation and Ali's involvement make for a varied and enjoyable thrill ride through the criminal world.
Thankyou to Netgalley for the ARC.
Thanks firstly to James Patterson, the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
I have read the entire Alex Cross series and this installment did not disappoint! There is both a New plot and the continuation of a story from previous books in this book. This coupled with James Patterson's trademark short chapters meant it was devoured at great pace as I could read a chapter anytime I had a spare couple of minutes. I would recommend reading the previous books in the series first as that will help to make sense of some of the plot. All in all, another great read from this Author.
Brilliant book as I knew it would be,I just love the Alex Cross books I am now re-reading them all. This book has a superb plot and characters that bring this book to life and fans will love it 5*
Both a new mystery and a continuation of the longer story arc involving Maestro, this is a full on Cross family thriller. Ali, Jannie, Bree and Alex are all pursuing their lines of enquiry which keeps the pace moving and gives everyone a plot.
It's an Alex Cross novel - if you're an existing fan then this is yummy scrummy goodness, if you're not then start at the beginning and work your way up as you definitely need to know the backstory.
Another action packed thrilling read, a series i've finally caught up with and loved each and every book that I have read. I like the characters, having grown with them over a number of years I can't wait to find out about them with each new book.
I look forward to being reunited with the characters as much as i look forward to seeing what new story line we have. Never disappointed when reading this series.
The author has delivered time and time again with this series, it really does not get boring as a long running series sometimes can. The author manages to keep the action and the tension throughout each and every story. Another first class read and a great addition to the series.
Alex Cross #32
The advantage of being behind in the series was I got to read quite a few of the books back to back. The disadvantage is as I feel I've recently spent so much time with these characters I can't wait for the next one.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author James Patterson and the published for the advance copy.
I am a huge fan of James Patterson and have read the majority of his work. His books are always fast paced with short chapters and great plots.
This book has three plots running alongside each other which I found a little confusing with lots of character names to remember. (I probably struggled due to chronic overwhelm and reading around three noisy children rather than the actual writing/book).
Alex Cross is one of my favourite series from Patterson. If you've read the others it's highly worth a read.
I personally got confused by one scene involved Davis and Miss Plum which I still haven't got my head round even after rereading. I also don't understand how the title relates to the story but that's neither here nor there.
