Unfortunately I had to skip a few books in this series, but that didn't harm the reading of this one. The characters are likeable and there were several cases being investigated, with enough red herrings to make it harder to guess the culprits. It was another book which I read in a day, so probably best not to start it if there's something you need to do!
Thanks first must go to NetGalley, the publisher Random House UK, Cornerstone and James Patterson, for the ARC of 'Alex Cross Must Die'.
I absolutely love James Patterson, particularly the Alex Cross series and this is another brilliant novel with no sign of the series slowing down.
Every book James Patterson, continues to provide twists, turns and suspense which demonstrates why he, along with his series are so successful.
5* would highly recommend.
Whenever I pickup a new book by this author I always wonder if it will be as good as the previous ones, if I’ll enjoy it as much, but as always, it is and I did. Cross and Sampson are already dealing with a possible serial killer when they are first on the scene of a plane crash and all the horrors that entails. When they realise this was intentional, they must find who is responsible, and quickly. All the usual characters are back, including Cross’ family - I love Nana Mama’s new challenge - and more of Sampsons life too. The book dashes on at break neck pace, with the plots being skillfully pieced together, and all too plausible. Recommend.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
The 31st novel in the Alex Cross series sees our protagonist investigating the shooting down of a passenger aircraft as well as hunting a serial killer. I have read and enjoyed every book in this series and as usual James Patterson delivers a fast paced and punchy story. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.
Excellent, like all his books, even the ones with co-writers. Fast paced and thrilling, which is sadly missing from so many other "thrillers"!
This is the fourth James Patterson book I have read, and based on the sheer numbers of books he writes and the subtle changes in style between them, I suspect that there are sometimes other writers involved in his books. Having said that I did enjoy the interwoven story lines and thought that it was the best written of the books which I'd read. It was written in a very filmic was with lots of descriptions of clothing, furniture etc which also brought the stories to life.
James Patterson Alex cross series is one of my all time favourite series & this book
Was no exception. Highly recommend this book.
Let us be honest, we all know what we are going to get from Patterson, and particularly with an Alex Cross book, but I still love reading them and this book is no different. The plot is the usual fast-paced, punchy action I have come to expect from Patterson. This plot was quite interesting and complex as well which certainly kept my attention. Patterson has included other plot threads too around the other main characters which are good but a part of me thinks there were too many supplementary plot threads and it took time away from the main plot.
Of course it is always brilliant to catch up with the Cross family and Sampson and this instalment was good as it has different developments for the characters to experience.
'Alex Cross Must Die' is another exciting read from Patterson.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House UK for an advance copy.
While investigating a spate of murders where men are shot in the eyes and left covered by a sheet Alex Cross and John Sampson are asked to assist a multi-agency task force after an airplane is shot down at Reagan airport in Washington - the resulting crash and fire killed all onboard. Bree, Cross' wife has her own investigation - her boss has asked her to look into the disappearance of a close friend of hers. All the evidence in the airplane case leads to a a high school football coach but he insists that he is being set up.
The latest in the Alex Cross series does not disappoint - plenty of twists, turns and suspense to keep the reader gripped.
Thanks to Netgalley, Random House UK and James Patterson for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
"Alex Cross Must Die" by James Patterson is a gripping thriller that keeps readers on the edge of their seats from the very beginning. The novel starts with a bang, as an American Airlines plane explodes in mid-air, setting the stage for a high-stakes investigation. Detectives Alex Cross and John Sampson are thrust into a complex and fast-paced narrative as they scramble to uncover the truth behind the plane's destruction.
Patterson weaves a multi-layered plot, with two concurrent cases that demand the full attention of Cross and Sampson. The stolen machine gun and the 'Dead Hours' murders provide a tantalizing blend of mystery, action, and suspense. The author's writing style is crisp and efficient, ensuring that the story maintains a breakneck pace throughout.
The character of Alex Cross shines in this novel, as he confronts not only external threats but also internal conflicts, making him a relatable and dynamic protagonist. The race against time adds a thrilling urgency to the story, making it difficult to put the book down.
In "Alex Cross Must Die," James Patterson delivers another page-turner in the long-running series, demonstrating his mastery of suspenseful storytelling. This novel is a must-read for fans of thrillers and crime fiction.
I feel immensely privileged each and every time I recieve an ARC from the James Patterson collection in my inbox but I'll admit when it's an Alex Cross novel that's landed a happy little dance happens!
Can you believe this is now book #31 in the Alex Cross series, yes you read that right... 31! I'm lucky enough to have read every single one, thanks to my mum getting me onto them aged 12 but hands down THIS is my all time favourite of them all. The tension, the excitement, the red herrings, the twists.... it had EVERYTHING and more.
From the vacuum of being sucked in at the very first chapter until you are spat out at the end... it had my full on attention.
As readers have come to expect from this series and JP novels in general, there is never just one story to tell. In book #31 Alex Cross and his best friend and partner Sampson recieve a call from the boss Ned Mahoney. A plane has crashed with no survivors and Manhoney wants them there..... now. Cross is perturbed, that's not the sort of thing they'd be called to... until Mahoney divulges a witness saw gunshots just before the plane went down. Was it an accident or was the plane taken down deliberately.
Alex and Sampson are already on a case investigating the Dead Hours killings. Men are being being murdered in the dead of night, both eyes being shot out and covered with a white sheet. These men all seem to be hard working, likeable family men. Nothing seems to connect them, they are all found in different jurisdictions so what is the motive? Who would kill these innocent men in such a savage way? Sampson now needs to take lead and try and find the answers whilst Cross deals with the plane crash.
Bree, ex chief of police and now Private Investigator is asked by her boss Elena to look into the whereabouts of her best friend Leigh Ann Asher who has suddenly become uncontactable. As Bree digs deeper things aren't at all what they appear to be and neither does it seem is Miss Asher.
Alongside Bree's investigation she also recieves a strange phone call from her stepdaughter Jannie. Her friend is in some sort of trouble and wants to meet Bree for some advice. When she doesn't appear for their meeting they start to search for her and her body is found, murdered... but why?
In typical JP style the chapters are at break neck speed leaving you breathless but never wanting to stop and suck the air in. Nothing gets in the way of the next chapter.!
James Patterson is an absolute wizard at casting his spell on readers, old and new alike.
Hugest of thanks to netgalley and Random House UK Cornerstone for the ARC.
“Alex Cross Must Die” is the brilliant new action-packed thriller in James Patterson’s best-selling Alex Cross series.
In typical Patterson style, the plot moves at breakneck speed, barely leaving the reader time to catch their breath.
Several different cases dominate the plot. Alex Cross and John Sampson are trying to catch the “Dead Hours” serial killer who stalks DC at night, killing young men in the early hours. But when a terrorist shoots down a plane at DC Reagan Airport, killing everyone on board and DC Metro Police and the FBI task them with this case as well, they must work non-stop to catch both the terrorist and the serial killer.
Meanwhile, Alex’ wife and private investigator Bree Stone tries to get to the bottom of the disappearance of tech mogul and CEO Leigh Anne Asher, who is also the best friend of her boss Elena Martin. Jannie, now a student Howard university, has a track and field team mate go missing, which Bree gets to the bottom of.
Investigative talent seems to run in the family, as Ali, Alex' 10-year old son, secretly follows his father to the Dead Hours killer’s crime scenes and provides vital information that helps solve the case.
All the while Nana Mama continuously cooks delicious food and looks after Alex, Bree and the kids, while also having her YouTube premiere.
Alex Cross is one of the most-beloved heroes in the action thriller genre and a long-time favourite of mine and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
Thanks to NetGalley, the Random House UK, Cornerstone and James Patterson for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Alex. Cross is back in book 32 with no signs of letting up. I just cannot get enough of these face paced, page turning crime thrillers from one of my favourite authors of all time. You always know when you pick up an Alex Cross book that it will be non stop action and you will be reading until you finish. His punchy, short chapters make for a fabulous reading experience every single time.
This time we have quite a it going on… a commercial plane full of passengers is shot down killing all on board, there is a serial killer out there, nicknamed the Dead Hours Killer and Bree is looking for a missing Company CEO. On top of all this, Ali is getting himself into trouble again, Nanna Mama is going back to work and so much more. How could you not want to read this. And the ending..,another to be continued… ahhh!!!
Thanks so much to Random House UK for allowing me to read such an earl copy of this book. Always a pleasure and an honour to read a Patterson novel. Published on Pctober 26th.
Another highly entertaining read by James Patterson and book 32 in the Alex Cross series.
If you want fast-paced this series is a very safe bet.
In this book, we have three separate cases although one is in a way linked to the other.
We have a plane being shot down with all the passengers killed, we have a serial killer called the Dead Hours killer on the loose targeting men and killing them in a very unique way, and then finally we have the disappearance of a woman who was the CEO of an IT company.
Allie, Alex's son, is also up to no good but in the end, he is the one who cracks the case of the Dead Hours killer.
Although I found it highly entertaining, I found the title a bit confusing. It seems like Alex Cross is the target and some of the synopsis online also mention the fact that he's in the crosshair of a killer but that is far from true. His life is never in danger so I do think the title is misleading.
I still thoroughly enjoyed this book!
Thank you to Netgalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion
Another fantastic book in the Alex Cross series. 3 gripping storylines has you hooked from the off until the very last page. Highly recommended!
This was quite a compelling book, and despite there being four storylines (both Bree and Alex working on two cases) it got never confusing or too complicated.
The characters were all very well-developed with their own quirks, hobbies, and habits which was for instance a lovely set-up for the Cross-Stone household of which Willow also seamlessly is a part of. Especially with the lovely, caring, yet feisty Nana Mama.
At the same time this story is full of surprises, but none of them over the top, nor with too much masculinity - thankfully :)
It has been a while since I read a book by James Patterson, but now I know there is even a series with Ali Cross as the main character I definitely want to read that as well.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the book.
Well what can I say, James Patterson does it again and gives us an unputdownable book in the Alex Cross series. Alex is working with John trying to solve one case when Ned pulls them both into another case. Bree is working a missing person case and pulled into another one. Plenty going off in this book with twists and turns all the way. As someone who has read EVERY Alex Cross book I can not fault them and recommend them as you can read them in order for the full background of the characters or any one of them as a stand-alone to get you started with the series. For someone like me, one tiny nugget of information such as “M” being mentioned is enough to get me pre ordering the next book without even reading a preview! Absolute page turner, l LOVE Alex Cross, roll on the next book!
Alex and his best friend John Sampson are back with another fast paced exciting book in the Alex Cross series. This starts with them investigating the crash of an American Airlines flight.
I have been reading these books for so long the characters now feel like old friends and though I love the storylines I also love reading about their family lives.
Fantastic series, probably my favourite, great storylines, characters and very well written.
Alex Cross returns to headline his series after sitting most of the last one out, letting his partner John Sampson do the heavy lifting.
In this instalment of the wildly popular series, an airplane is bought down by a terrorist action and a serial killer stalks the D.C. streets. The action is fast-paced and the writing breakneck.
James Patterson does churn these novels out, but he has a winning formula, and if you've loved any of the other books in this series, then this one will work for you too.
Thank you to the publishers and Netgalley for the ARC.
An airliner falls from the sky, leaving death in its wake. A serial killer is on the loose , hunting in the pre-dawn, and a ceo goes missing. Alex and Bree are on the hunt to find out who, and why..
There is a reason James Patterson is the world's bestselling author. His Alex Cross books are amongst the finest detective stories in the world. In this one, he keeps three investigations in the air, twining the stories seamlessly in the way he does best.
Brilliant stuff as always and a must read for fans of the genre.
