This was a different kind of story from this author. I adore the Hawthorn brothers. Not your typical vampire gets the girl story. Godric and Hazy are both pre-med students who get their geek on when talking science 😂. Which of course has Hunter and Laz all up in their business😂😂😂. Come on they’re vampires. They hear everything. Godric and Hazy have a strong connection to each other from the first moment they lock eyes. And Hazy’s ex boyfriend Blaine the Pain is not happy with it. He’s now on a mission and obsessed with Godric and his family. Let the fun commence. And Laz…I’ll leave it at that because I don’t want to give anything away. I hope Hunter and Laz get their own story. READ THIS STORY. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.
I adore Helena Hunting's writing and when I heard she was writing a paranormal romcom, I was stoked! And My Boyfriend is a Vampire was everything I wanted and more. Fun and steamy with a healthy dose of Hunting's trademark humor, I enjoyed Hazy and Godric's story and hope we get more books in this world.
Thank you to the publisher for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this romcom/paranormal storyline. It’s full of laugh out loud moments and the right amount of spice. I love the author’s storytelling and how it intrigues you from the beginning to the end. Definitely worth the read.
Witty, engaging and completely consuming, My Boyfriend is a Vampire is everything I had hoped it would be! This book is unlike anything I have picked up before, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and definitely recommend giving it a chance, even if it’s not your usual genre. Godrick & Hazy’s story is well worth it!
A paranormal romance from Helena Hunting (writing as Eva Knight)? Sign me up!
This book was just plain fun! Hazy is a college senior intrigued by the mysterious brothers who move in across the street. The second she and Godric meet, there is instant chemistry!
In addition to their sparks flying off the page, I loved that they shared a love of science and bonded further over that. It was an interesting aspect of the story that I haven’t seen in any other vampire romance.
Lovable side characters only added to the story for me! I’m really hoping that Laz and Hunter get stories of their own!
This romcom has it all…laugh out loud funny moments, some pretty great steam, excellent banter, and a few swoony moments! The paranormal aspect wasn’t super heavy, so it’s a great starter for someone just starting out in the genre.
Thank you to Penguin Random House and NetGalley for the eARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What a fun, quick read this was. I was so pleasantly surprised by Helena Hunting's (writing as Eva Knight) foray into paranormal romance.
My Boyfriend is a Vampire is a romcom featuring the undead, something I'll admit haven't read much of. Hazy and God...(ric) were simply amazing! Their love of science brought them together and their connection made them sparkle (pun very much intended lol!). Honestly, this was such a fun read, I enjoyed myself immensely. And I absolutely love the fact that this book didn't take itself too seriously. It was a blast.
I'm so hoping we get God...(ric)'s brothers' stories and explore more of this world, but even if we don't with was a gem, perfect for this spooky season.
If you are in the moon for a good old, college romcom with a paranormal twist, I would definitely recommend My Boyfriend Is a Vampire.
3.5 stars--MY BOYFRIEND IS A VAMPIRE by Eva Knight aka Helena Hunting is a contemporary, new adult, stand alone paranormal, romance story line focusing on three hundred year old vampire Godric Hawthorn, and twenty-two year old, med student Hazey ‘Hazy’ Florence.
Told from dual first person perspective (Hazy and Godric) MY BOYFRIEND IS A VAMPIRE follows the building romance and relationship between our story line couple. Godric Hawthorn and his brothers Laz and Hunter are vampires who have renovated and refurbished the ‘haunted mansion’ on campus but Godric never expected to come face to face with his future in the guise of human female, twenty-two year old Hazy Florence. Hazy and Godric are both pre-med students, lab partners and eventual lovers but Hazy’s past refuses to let go, threatening the status quo of vampires living amongst the human population. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Hazy and Godric, and the potential fall-out as Hazy’s former boyfriend is determined to prove there is something different about Godric and his brothers.
The world building focuses on college life/dorm life. Hazy lives with her best friends Satya and Alyssa, while Godric lives with his brothers Hunter and Laz but as Godric and Hazy’s relationship becomes something more, the ex-boyfriend is determined to prove there is more to Godric than anyone could have ever imagined.
The relationship between Hazy and Godric is one of immediate attraction but Godric is a vampire, and is hoping to keep his preternatural abilities behind closed doors Hazy will witness something she should not see, and her life is in peril unless the man that she loves is willing to reveal the truth. Hazy will quickly learn that life with a vampire is more than she could have ever imagined, including the love of a man who has lived for hundreds of years. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate , without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Hazy’s roomates and friends Satya and Alyssa: Hazy’s Ex boyfriend Blaine; Godric’s Brothers Hunter, and Laz, as well as Hazy’s parents and four over protective brothers. I am hoping the author has plans for Hunter and Laz.
MY BOYFRIEND IS A VAMPIRE is a slow building but cute and charming read akin to another popular teen-vampire romance series. The comparisons and similarities are numerous including a direct reference and Halloween party that reveals a humorous side to the vampires. The premise is entertaining and easy to read; the romance is seductive; the characters are fun, sassy and lively. I did struggle with the some of the language including the oft-used ‘boned’ when referencing $ex -the story felt dumbed-down for a younger audience.

This was such a cute book. This paranormal/college/romantic comedy had me laughing and smiling the whole way through. I enjoyed Hazy and her vampire boyfriend Godric’s connection and how they deeply understood each other. A perfect October read. Four stars
This was a cute and different twist on a vampire romance. I completely geeked out at the scientific look Hazey and Godric took towards the difference between their blood. Blaine was a hilarious problem and I loved the innocent way this book handled everything… innocent when it came to typical vampire issue (no one died), not so innocent when it came to the steam factor! I really hope Laz and Hunter get a book!
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for the advance copy.
This was a fun paranormal romance. If you're looking for something a bit different I'd recommend giving this a try during October/Halloween.
There's a little bit of steaminess.
3.5 stars.
I am not normally one for paranormal romance books I think Twilight was the last one I finished lol, with that being said though I thoroughly enjoyed My Boyfriend is a Vampire. I decided to give this book a chance because Eva Knight is one of Helena Huntings pen names and I LOVE her books. I loved reading about Hazy and Godrick. There are lots of funny, sweet moments and enough spice added in as well.

My Boyfriend is a Vampire was a lighthearted and amusing read. The paranormal element and romance were quite enjoyable but there were elements I wished had been more explored upon.
This was mainly in the heroine’s POV with just a few chapters in the hero’s POV. There were also some great tropes like, an age-gap, slight opposites attract, close proximity and a college and paranormal romance.
The overall premise was decent, a bit predictable and cheesy but still entertaining. There were some amusing, spicy and lighthearted moments. All the side characters were great as well. I will say though, I was expecting a little bit more from the story and characters.
The paranormal element was definitely my favorite part though. But I wished it would have been more expanded on, as there were a lot of questions I still had regarding the hero’s backstory and family. So I would have liked for that to have been a bigger part of the story.
The romance between the main characters was definitely insta-lust, but they still had some great tension and chemistry. I did like that the heroine was pretty open and understanding of the hero. They worked really well together as well and the spice was amazing. There was open-door spice in this book.
There was no third act conflict between them, which I appreciated. The conflict that does occur was very anticlimactic and underwhelming though. The conclusion was pretty good though.
Overall, just an okay read with some amusing paranormal elements.

I absolutely adored every second of this story! I was funny, steamy, and just so dang cute! It was a perfect rom com to sink your teeth in to. Godric and Hazy were just so freaking adorable and the chemistry was undeniable. Between the humor, the schmexy times, and just the all around wonderful characters, there is just so much to love. I really enjoyed this college rom-com and the witty moments (sparkling vampires anyone?). Godric and Hazy were just such a fun pair and I loved seeing them nerd out over science together. I also really enjoyed Godric’s brothers Hunter and Laz and Hazy’s roommates. They just made the story that much better. I could read about these characters forever! I hope we might see a sequel in the future, but regardless I LOVE LOVE LOVED this book!
4.4⭐️
This was a fun story! A bit like grown up twilight but not too much. I loved the brothers and hope we get to see their stories. Hazy’s friends were great too—really makes a story better with all these quality side characters. Plus their science nerdy hearts really spoke to mine.
So this cute read turned out to be just a cute okay read for me.
In this book we meet 2 college students - one Hazy or Hazel and one Godric. Godric happens to be in a lot of classes that Hazy is in and lives across from her ex-boyfriend in a previously abandoned house with his family of brothers whom he shares the same disorder with. Hazy's ex-boyfriend is the suspicious type that also works at the college newspaper and he wants Hazy back.
Now one does not have to guess how the plot of this story will play out. There is an instant attraction between Hazy and Godric. There is a lot of banter between the characters that was fun and then there was the irritating ex who will not take a hint and get lost.
So where this was a fun read to get through, I have to admit that it was hard for me to get into. I thought that the plot was a little predictable and that the characters lacked growth making them hard to relate to.
Overall, this was just an okay read for me.
Hazy is your typical collage girl. I'm serious, she's an any girl. And that's one thing I really liked, is that she was "just like the other girls." She's just trying to pass her classes and not make the mistake of hooking up with old hookups.
But a new guy transfers in. And moves into the formally vacant house that no one's lived in for years. He's different from all the other guys. What on earth could make him so different... 😉
It's an enjoyable read! And so fun. It doesn't get too much into the supernatural part. Where people who DONT like supernatural books won't enjoy it. It's still part supernatural, but mainly a college romance. Where one of the MCs is a vampire!
I enjoy books where no one is changing for someone else. The side characters were great, from Godrics family to Hazys roommates.
It was so much fun, I hope she's going to write more in this genre!
I definitely enjoyed this but had a few thoughts while reading....
- What if we didn't know Godric was a vampire at the start? How would that go? Random I know when it's stated in the title, but it popped in my head
- Are we going to get more books about Hazy and Godric and their quest for vampire/human knowledge?
- Will we get books about Hunter and Laz? I'm so down for that... Laz in particular developed nicely throughout the book and became even more interesting the more we got to know him.
Basically I really enjoyed this as I love the author's writing and know that I'm heading into a well crafted story each time I open up a book they've penned. But about halfway through I was wondering how we were going to get to a proper HEA by the end as there just wasn't enough book left and it didn't seem to be heading to a neat conclusion. Fortunately things resolved, mostly, but it was all a little fast and I had hoped for a little more of a showdown with the dreaded Blaine.
This is fairly light on the paranormal/fantasy aspect so it's more a rom-com with bite, or a side of paranormal, as the MMC happens to be a vampire who doesn't seem to do most traditionally normal vampire things. There's some good science based discussion about his situation as that fits with Hazy being pre-med. So it's smart (as you'd expect from the author), there's sass and heat (again as you'd expect, plus Godric is super hot) but if you're really into paranormal fantasy then this isn't quite that. But for anyone that loves rom-coms and is happy to branch out then you can't go wrong with this.
If you like Paranormal Romance you will love this Eva Knight(aka Helena Hunting) book. It had the typical humor I equate to a Hunting book. I loved Hazy and Goddric, but my favorite was his family and learning how these vampires were able to fit in with all of the humans on campus. Great book and I definitely recommend!!
Absolutely fabulous. Love Hazy and Godric. Gordic and his brothers are there for each other no matter what. Hazy and Gordic fit together perfectly. Could not wait to see where they were going. What a super fun read.
Regardless of the genre Ms. Hunting writes, she’s my go-to author, so I was eager to read her first YA paranormal rom-com under a nom de plume. To be honest, I’m not really into the supernatural-like genre, but I can’t tell how much I enjoyed this one. Perfect timing to get into the Halloween mood, Ms. Knight has combined mystic quaintness fitting for a vampire novel, upbeat dialogue, laugh-out-loud moments and a generous dose of angst in college and mansion surroundings. Thus prepare yourselves to be spooked whilst being sucked into the Hawthorn’s world!
The blurb of My Boyfriend is a Vampire gives just enough hints to open readers’ curiosity, and as I’d hate to take away that sense of surprise, I’ll try not to let on–only what I loved. If there’s a baddie in the story, all the better, right? So whom, you may ask, was their obsession? Godric–loved his name–and his brothers are angels in comparison!
We get Hazel Florence, Hazy to her pals, first-person POV, showcasing her thoughts and actions. I loved how she kept putting her foot in it without much ado, and her inquisitive nature is to die for. No pun intended! She and I were impatient to meet the gorgeous guy who’d moved into an eerie house across the street. I could feel the sparks ignite, but a handful of hilariously embarrassing incidents wouldn’t stop her from dating her newly-found boyfriend. Of course, its complications only make this story even more spellbinding.
As Godric’s presence is beyond potent, having his perspective later on was a special treat. LOL–not trick, but Knight building up the emotional suspense leading to a well-crafted plot twist has its thrilling yet fear-inspiring effect. Observing Hazy and Godric talk openly about their feelings and grasping his and his brother’s innovative solution was a joy. So, what would occur, which was well overdue, got me applauding them.
Knight has captured the magical complexity of love with steaminess, all the feels, mingling buoyant banter between family and besties in an easy-to-read, feel-good romance. Now, I’m hoping that Hunter and Laz will get their stories. Bravo!
