This was such a fun and quick read. The character development was great and you could really understand what was going on with everyone and their overall personality. I liked the different perspectives and the humor that was incorporated into this book. I liked the twists and didn’t feel like it was overly predictable.
4.5 stars rounded up! Only knocking 0.5 off due to the ending being wrapped up too quick, but do understand its a lead on to #2
I was hooked from the beginning, loved all the characters and the plot definately kept me interested throughout.
a massive thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author. Was my 1st by Mr Hurst but not my last!

You're always guaranteed a fantastic page turner when Daniel Hurst is the author. I would read anything he writes as you know you're in for a good time. This is a follow up to the fantastic Doctor's Wife where now Fern is living the high life, revelling in her husbands life insurance pay out with the knowledge that everyone who knows what she did to her doctor husband Drew is dead. Alice, his mistress is stuck behind bars for the crime Fern committed and life can't get any better, or so she thinks.
It turns out someone has an idea that Fern is up to no good and has managed to infiltrate her life in order to gain her secrets.
This story is very cat and mouse, from multiple points of view and the audio was fantastic. Highly recommend.
The Doctor's Widow by Daniel Hurst audiobook narrated by Luke R. Francis, Sarah Durham is the second book of The Doctor's Wife series. The same as the first book this was a good, twisty thriller. I would say you could read this book as a stand-alone. There is enough information for readers to follow the story without questions.
The audiobook was brilliantly narrated and made this journey so enjoyable!
Even so, I could NOT put this down and needed to finish it in one go it wasn't full 5 stars for me as I really needed that surprise element, that jaw-dropping moment. At the same time, I loved the story, I loved how it was developed and I loved the ending! There is good potential for a third book!
In this book, Fern moves back to Manchester and is starting a new life. She still keeps her appearance as a good widow would do but it is just for the show. Fern already moved forward and is developing a romance with Rodger. Unfortunitelly they both have completely different goals. What are Rodger's intentions? Is Fern in danger? Is this a trap or a happy forever after? And most importantly, how Alice is involved in all this?
Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this advance copy, I really enjoyed it!

This is my first exposure to this author and I was not disappointed. Hurst has delivered a fast paced and deliciously wicked tale. The characters are well-developed though not necessarily likeable. None of them are whom they appear to be. This provocative, somewhat dark and twisted story grabs you from the first page and keeps you guessing until the very end where the author inserts a deliciously wicked double twist. I could not stop reading this book once I started and now, I am anxious to read the other books from this series!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio who provided me with a copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
4.5 rounded up
Another great Daniel Hurst book! This one is a game of cat-n-mouse with Fern (the widow), Alice (the mistress) and a couple detective types. Everyone is getting used to life without Dr. Drew.
This book isn’t short on brazen characters. We all know what a great actress Fern is when she wants to be. There’s lots of acting in the 2nd installment too. She’s one of those villains that I just love.
I was rooting for all of the characters in one way or another at different times throughout the story. Like I wanted Fern to be held accountable but I also wanted her to get away. I also wanted Alice in / out of jail depending on what point of the story I was in.
It was so much fun.
Next up…I’m going with The Doctor’s Mistress 🤔
Can’t wait to see what DH comes up with next.
If you love thrillers, domestic suspense then this is an author you must check out.
When I heard there was a sequel to the unputdownable ‘The Doctor’s Wife’ I couldn’t wait to listen to it. Yet again this was another fast paced and gripping page turner and I listened to it in one sitting. The narration by Sarah Durham and Luke R Francis was excellent and I loved listening to both their narrations. I settled into this book right from the prologue and I immediately knew it was another one of Hurst’s books I was going to love. Well it certainly did not disappoint. The icing on the coke for me was the ending which judging from what I read there will be a third book because if there isn’t Mr Hurst then that is just cruel ! For anyone who hasn’t yet read the first book The Doctor’s Wife then I strongly recommend reading it before this one. 5⭐️
I loved this second installation of the Doctor’s Wife series. The Doctor’s Widow is everything I want in a thriller. The tension is high and so are the stakes for Fern. Will she have what it takes to get away with murder, or will she be her own worst enemy? Is it wrong to root for a serial killer? I found that I was doing that throughout this twisty, addictive thriller. I love Daniel Hurst’s writing. He cleverly pulls you in while keeping the tension high and making you race to the shocking and satisfying conclusion. I am already looking forward to book 3 of this must-read incredibly entertaining. The narrators do an excellent job of bringing the characters to life and adding a layer of suspense, and intrigue. Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for my audiobook. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A gripping, fast paced, fun book that delivered on all levels!!! Daniel Hurst has wowed me yet again! I enjoyed [book:The Doctor’s Wife|66546661] it left me with my jaw hanging open at one of the twists. I was so excited when I saw that there was another book in the series coming out. As with the first book, [book:The Doctor's Widow|174639621] was fast paced, well thought out, and riveting! I did not want to put this book down. If you have not read [book:The Doctor’s Wife|66546661], I highly recommend reading it prior to reading [book:The Doctor's Widow|174639621]. You will be happy you did. Both are terrific!
Fern Devlin was once married to Doctor Drew Devlin. He cheated on her and is now dead...
Fern has collected the life insurance money and moved on with her life. She is happy and looking forward to the future. She wasn't looking for romance when she met Roger in a bar, but she couldn’t resist his charms, his looks, and his honesty. But Roger makes a slip and Fern begins to wonder, just how much does Roger know about her and her life with her late husband.
Woohoo!!! This was a fun ride. Daniel Hurst writes books and characters that I can't get enough of. They are pure enjoyment, shocking, full of twists, and hard to put down. Being able to get inside Fern’s head was a blast! Plus, the ending.... well done, sir, well done!
Well written, gripping, fast paced and left me wanting more.
I can't wait to read what Daniel Hurst writes next!!!
I had both the book and the audiobook which made for a fabulous reading experience. I loved the narration of the audiobook. Very well done.

The Doctor’s Widow

I was thrilled to get this early copy as I love the first in the series The Doctor’s Wife. “ Things are very different now that I am the doctor’s widow.” You know by the title Fern Devlin, the wife is now a widow.
Hurst always comes off with a fresh approach and I was loved the story filled with surprises. Does she have anything to do with his death, after all there is a huge life insurance policy and the police usually suspect the wife.
Ready for her new chapter, she plays the widow effortlessly. Hurst’s follow-up is just as good if not better than the first. I sure hope he continues this series.
The story was woven with so many themes. The deception, twists, revenge and everything in between as Fern moves on had me from the very beginning until the last. To me, Hurst is the man who knows how to craft a story about women and does so smoothly. Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for this advanced copy.
So I listened to The Doctor's Widow on audio and wow I loved it so much. I listened to it within the day and thought it was so cleverly written. I have not read book 1 in this series but I think you do not need to as you get to understand what's happened in the past.
Told from Fern (the widow of Drew Devlin), Greg or known as Roger to Fern (Fern's new love interest) and Alice (in jail as she was framed for the murder of Drew Devlin).
Fern is moving on with her life after the death of husband Drew, she has a new lover Roger but he is actually a friend of Drews' and is out to investigate who actually killed Drew as he thinks it was Fern and not Alice.
Fern has a big life insurance pay out from Drew's death and is living her life to the full, Roger/Greg is investigating her and the story is really interesting and gripping to read. I loved the dynamic of the characters and listening to the different view points.
A great read by author Daniel Hurst.
Thanks to Netgalley, Daniel Hurst and the publishers for allowing me a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
If you enjoyed The Doctor’s Wife, you’re going to really enjoy The Doctor’s Widow. This book was filled with more suspense, secrets, and twists than the first book in the series, if that’s even possible. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook, in which Sarah Durham returned to narrate. She does such a great job narrating this story along with Luke Francis. I did enjoy listening to this book a lot and couldn’t stop listening so I could go to sleep.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in advance of publication.
The Doctor's Widow is book #2 in The Doctor's Wife series. While I did not read book #1, I had no problem picking up on what had occurred. I was able to devour the audiobook in one sitting, and while I was really looking forward to the twists that I felt coming, I found myself highly disappointed by the ending. It should have been wrapped up in this book, rather than leaving a cliffhanger for book #3.
While the story was good and present, and the characters I found easy to like, I feel unfulfilled. The narrator did a great job though.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

I loved the first book in the series and now this one and I am really hoping there will be another one! Mystery and murder, what more could you want!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.
It appears Fern has gotten away with the murder of her husband, Drew, and framed his mistress to boot. Now Fern has lots of lovely money and has met a new man. Can she trust another man? Not really. Her new beau is actually her dead hubby’s friend, out to prove Fern killed him. The twist at the end of this sequel came as a big surprise
She's baaaack!
Fern Devlin, the widow of Dr. Drew Devlin, is back.
And so is her handsome, spontaneous, trusted, and caring friend "Roger", AKA "Greg", who also happens to be an ex-cop and a former friend of Fern's deceased husband.
In Daniel Hurst's "The Doctor's Wife" (Book #1), we learned that Fern is a manipulative "femme fatale" who murdered her husband, framed her husband's lover for the murder, and murdered her accomplice.
"Roger" suspects Fern of her crimes.
Can "Roger" trick Fern into confessing?
Will Roger's "entrapment" plan be successful?
Prolific author Daniel Hurst's newest popcorn thriller is well-paced with a compelling score of unlikeable characters and no shortage of eye-rolling moments.
Although the book lacked Hurst's trademark dose of dark humor, I was never tempted to push the stop button on my phone.
I listened to the audiobook, read by Sarah Durham and Luke R. Francis.
Both narrators did a superb job with the narration but the book would have benefited from additional narrators (or at least one additional female narrator) since the book unfolded from four different POVs.
Will "The Doctor's Lover" be the upcoming third book in this series?
(I hope so!)
You'll have to read "The Doctor's Widow" to discover why.
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Doctor's Widow by Daniel Hurst, the second installment in the Doctor's Wife series, delivered a mixed reading experience. While the plot maintains intrigue, the character development falls somewhat short of my hopes. The cast remains at arm's length, leaving me underwhelmed by their depth and growth. Empathy struggles to root for these flawed characters, which had me feeling detached and less invested in their fates. And I love to root for an anti-hero, but Fern just did not capture my attention as much as I would have hoped this go-'round. And while I appreciate the struggles with the second part of a trilogy series, this felt more like a placeholder until we get to the third book. The narrative unfolds at a steady pace; however, the lack of substantial evolution among the characters leaves a lingering sense of missed potential.
Thanks to Bookouture Audio via NetGalley for the advanced audio copy in exchange for an honest review.
Fern is just trying to live her life after the death of her husband, the husband's mistress, and the husband of the mistress.
She has been awarded all her husband's money. Has purchased a new car and a new house
Life can't get any better than this
Greg meets Fern. Fern thinks she's gotten a second chance. But Greg has alternate motives. Fern won't see it coming. She just cares that she's gotten away with murder the first time
Another twisting roller-coaster ride, following on from the brilliant The Doctor's Wife, which is definitely a must-read.
Fern is settling into her new life without Drew and everything seems to be going beautifully until new flame Roger shows up and Fern starts to let down her defences.
She thinks she has finally found an honest man, but she couldn't be further from the truth. Just like her husband, it turns out that Roger also secretly has feelings for Alice, the woman Drew had an affair with, and he is out for revenge.
The author always packs his books with killer twists and this is no exception. I devoured it within a day and am keeping my fingers crossed for another installment in this series.
I read and enjoyed the Doctor's Wife so when I saw this one, I knew I had to request it. I was definitely hooked and finished this book all in one day, but as soon as the identity of Rory was revealed, I knew what was going to happen. It was very predictable. I wanted to give it a 3/5, but the twist at the end for Fern and for Alice bumped it up to a 4.
