Although there is a mystery at the core of this book, the atmospheric setting and the different interactions between everyone introduced to us are the focal points of everything. In this installment, I went in blind, not having read the first. I finished the book wishing I had read the previous book, just to get the lay of the land before things were set in motion or maybe the history of why things are the way they are. I would recommend reading this series in order, even though the plotlines themselves are very separate.
Nell is a writer, and she has a few publications under her belt. She also has a sorrowful past that she has yet to share with anyone around her. When her imagination dries up, she jumps at a chance to stay at the Mandeville Manor with her very good friends. Once she arrives, the oldest child in the house says some really strange things to her that set off her senses tingling. She starts seeing things that may not be there (because if they were where she saw them, they need explaining). She is struggling with her writer's block and helping figure out what has the local constabulary on the lookout since before her arrival.
The secrets of the house help her figure out the solution as well as find a way out of the deepest sorrows in her life.
It is a well written book that has the reader invested in the outcomes for everyone that we have been introduced to.

I received an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience.

Book 2 in The Madeville Series and this book is just as good if not better than the first book. Really enjoying this series.

A beautifully written book that will warm your heart. In 1924, writer Nell is looking for inspiration for her next novel - where better than Hill House and The Mandeville family?

Nell definitely gets more than she bargained for, as the house helps her heal from her past. I really liked Nell and little Tommy stole my heart. I’m pleased this book linked in with the first in this series, so we could find out what happened to Lou.

4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Callie Langridge and Storm, for an ARC in return for an honest review.

"The Mandeville Secret" masterfully weaves a spellbinding tale that entwines historical intrigue, haunting mystery, and subtle otherworldliness. In 1924, Nell Potter flees to the countryside, seeking inspiration for her novel and solace in her friend Charlotte's company at the enigmatic Hill House. But the house itself becomes a character, shrouding Nell in an eerie embrace. This sequel to "A Time to Change" is a standout achievement, transporting readers to a bygone era while tantalizing them with the unknown. With its captivating prose and clever plot, I'm left eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this extraordinary series.

The second in a series featuring a house with magical powers. This story was not as strong as the first in the series and I almost gave up halfway through. The plot picks up almost three quarters of the way into the story and then things move quickly.

I absolutely love this book and how well it interlinked characters that we met in the first book in the series A Time to Change..It is however a stand alone book but it is enhanced more by reading the first.
The book is a mixture of many things. It is a story of love and loss as well as a mystery.
Like life itself there are lots of events taking place that at times are difficult to comprehend but if you go with the flow all in a funny way is explained and seems feasible

"The Mandeville Secrets" by Callie Langridge is a captivating story that blends mystery, romance, and history into an unforgettable tale. Set in England in 1924, the novel follows the life of Nell Potter, a successful writer who uses the pseudonym Margot Evangeline. Nell has a troubled past that haunts her writing, leading her to create increasingly complex stories. When she receives an invitation to Hill House, a beautiful Georgian manor in the countryside, she sees it as an opportunity to escape her problems and writes a new book.
As soon as Nell reaches Hill House, she discovers that the manor holds many secrets, including the mysterious thefts disturbing the Mandeville family. As she learns about the history of Louisa Arnold and the troubled Mandeville family, she starts experiencing eerie visions that make it difficult to differentiate between the past and the present. Meanwhile, the newly arrived police inspector, James Painter, sets out to uncover the truth behind the thefts without realising the presence of supernatural forces.
Langridge's writing can transport the reader effortlessly to the enchanting world of Hill House. Her attention to historical detail brings the setting to life, making every story aspect feel rich and immersive. The Georgian manor is depicted beautifully, and the characters are drawn vividly, making it easy for readers to imagine the house and its inhabitants. The author's descriptions are honest and enhance the overall reading experience.
The novel's characters are relatable and lovable, their interactions adding depth and emotion to the storyline. The protagonist, Nell, is particularly compelling with her complex past and struggle to find inspiration in her writing. The budding romance between Nell and James Painter adds intrigue and emotion, seamlessly weaving together the elements of mystery and love. Overall, the book is a great read that engages readers in a captivating and emotional journey.
Although the story's central point may seem unbelievable, it doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the narrative. However, those who prefer more realistic historical novels may find it less appealing.
'The Mandeville Secrets' is a captivating and beautifully written novel that takes readers through a world of mystery, romance, and hidden secrets. Callie Langridge has a unique ability to create a vivid historical setting and well-rounded characters, which makes the book a delight to read. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys historical fiction with a touch of the supernatural and a dash of romance.

A beautiful and well written book about the past, secrets and how one woman, Nell Potter, deals with the secrets, the mysteries and her writing. The second book in this series and what a great series it is. I am really enjoying it.

I love the historical aspect mixed with mystery and other-worldliness as well as it being a bit of fun and oh so easy to read. The characters bring some depth to the story and I enjoyed them all. There are twists and turns that will get your mind twirling making it hard to put down as you just want to find out what is going to happen next.

A great read, enjoyable, entertaining and quick and easy. Looking forward to book three now.

How I love this series. This second book is a little less sweeping me off of my feet speed wise, but the story is grabbing none the less. Please don’t miss “A Time To Change”.
I truly hope this is going to be a large series around the mansion and its characters.

What an amazing sequel to A Time to Change. This is a truly fascinating and unique series. I loved everything about this book.

The Mandeville Secret introduces us to Nell Potter. It's 1924, and she's on her way to the countryside to work on her latest novel and visit her dear friend Charlotte Mandeville. She's hoping Hill House will serve as an inspiration and help with her writer's block, but Hill House has its own plans for Nell.

I absolutely adored this beautifully written and intriguing story. Part historical fiction, part mystery, with supernatural vibes mixed in. I eagerly await book three.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I haven’t read the first part of the series so I had no idea what to expect apart from the historical setting. This story reads like a paranormal mystery which isn't my preferred choice however it was full of twists and turns which kept things interesting. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Another great book by Callie, that has friendship, love and plenty of mystery.
Great characters and descriptions of the house as well as the landscapes.
Set in 1924, the after effects of the war is still impacting on the wealth of the country as well as on the people.
A great easy read that had me hooked from the start to finish.

Tragedy, regrets, loss, murder, theft, kidnapping, mysteries, strange happenings and more all comprise to enthrall the reader from page 1 of Callie Langridge's The Mandeville Secret. Just when you think you have it figured out, another twist occurs that leaves you rapidly turning the next page. I was reminded of Jimmy Stewart in It's A Wonderful Life...when you feel you cannot go on and you are given another chance to change what you regret.

A copy was provided for my review, but all opinions are my own.

I haven’t read the first part of the series yet, so I had no idea what is the series about. But I liked the historical setting and idea of the story. The characters are lovable and I could really imagine the house and it’s inhabitants. The central point of the story was a bit too fantastic for me, but it doesn’t mean I didn’t like the story. I have just realised that I like the „real“ historical novels more.

The Mandeville Secret by Callie Langridge is book two in the Mandeville Mysteries series.

Nell Potter, a mystery writer, is haunted by a secret. As she finds herself unable to write while the pressure of a deadline breathes down her neck, she receives an invitation.

The college friend of one of the Mandevilles, she arrives at Hill House for a visit. While there she finds herself engrossed in some mysteries not of her own making.

I can’t wait for book three! I love this series!

This is such a fascinating and intriguing story. It had me absorbed in the pages from beginning to end. The story flows beautifully, and has a wonderful cast of characters that I immediately engaged with. The setting of Hill House is perfect for the story, and the sense of mystery and trepidation runs throughout the book. I loved the racking up of tension as the story unfolded, and the sense of loss that runs throughout. For me, this story has everything that I want - love, loss, tragedy, hope, mystery - and I loved it.

Years ago I came upon a time-slip novel called a A Time to Change. I enjoyed the novel so much that it has a permanent space on my bookshelf, so I was thrilled to see the sequel the Mandeville Secret.

It is 1924 and Nell Potter, an author, has accepted an invitation from her college friend Charlotte Mandeville to visit her family home Hill House. Nell is looking for some peace and quiet and a change of scenery to hopefully find the inspiration for her next book. If she cannot come up with a book idea, she will lose her publisher and have to move back home with her parents. A fate she is not looking forward to. Nell like many people of the era still has unresolved mental wounds from the Great War, Hill House is a lovely house, home to Charlotte, her parents, her brother Edward. Sister-in-law Alice and nieces and nephews, Tommy, Daphne and Charlie, and her aunt Mrs. Hart. With Charlotte’s parents, aunt and most of the staff away at the Isle of Wight on vacation, the home has an informal feel as Alice likes to live informally, she was a former maid who married the heir. Strange incidents start to happen. Tommy seems to act strangely and make uncomfortable statements, then there is the sound of a child running through the house laughing and making noise that only Nell can hear. There is the strange man on the grounds that tries to attack Nell before he is chased off by Elliot the chauffeur. There is the mysterious Mr. Townley who pops up in the garden to give sage advice, Then the police show up, looking for the man that tried to attack Nell. Supposedly he has been behind a string of robberies in the area, but Edward and Detective Inspector James Painter seem to believe it is more than just a local thief. Something is very wrong at Hill House. As Nell works with Edward and Inspector Painter to help apprehend the mysterious man, her past comes back to haunt her, but Hill House is not an ordinary house and it will always find a way to help the helpless and vulnerable.

The Mandeville Secret was a wonderful sequel to A Time to Change, we get to catch up with the characters from the 1st book. Mrs. Hart, Charlotte, Bertie, Edward and Alice. It was lovely to see where their lives have taken them and to see the magic that Hill House still wields for those deserving souls that need a bit of help.

Thanks to Netgalley, Storm Publishers and the author for the chance to read and review this book.

Beautiful book that made me experience feeling I haven't felt in a long time.
If you like Kate Morton style and "Haunting of Blythe Manor", with a sprinkle of Barbara Bradford Taylor, I raccomand this book.
Without spoilers..it combine love, loss, paranormal, history, family's ties, and friendship. I hope that more books will stem from these characters as I want to know more about all of them.
Beautiful job! Thank you, @Netgalley, for providing an ARC.
