REMEMBER THE MONSTERS by William Neal was a roller-coaster ride I never wanted to end. This one gripped me from the very beginning.

Abby Kendall, fierce Chicago homicide investigator and her partner Nick Federici are chasing a killer who left his ‘first’ body reminiscent of a well known, long ago, unsolved murder. OK, so he’s got MY attention! As they begin to put the pieces together, they realize that there are actually six other murders that can be attributed to this killer.

Abby, who nine months earlier had caught sex traffickers, with some police involvement, has been somewhat blackballed for breaking the blue line. She has very little back-up with her fellow detectives and especially Jimmy Logan who she is convinced was involved but got away with it. She is also dealing with a separation from her husband, NHL player Shane Donnelly. When Shane is charged with manslaughter and arrested after a game time fight (come on, it IS hockey after all), the press is everywhere. NOT what Abby needs while she’s hunting a killer. She is also having some serious concerns about Nick. He just seems, well, off. When he faces a serious health crisis, Abby is on her own. Can she find the killer before his next victim? Then she gets help from the most unlikely ally.

This book had me hooked from the beginning. I like the writing style as it flows smoothly. I could feel the ice under my skates and Abby’s frustration at trying to complete the puzzle. This is my first book by this author but it certainly won’t be my last. If you want a thrill ride, don’t miss this one.

Thank you to Netgalley and Long Gone Wild for this ARC opportunity. All opinions are my own and given voluntarily.

A chilling and relentless thriller that grips from the very first page. The story follows Abby Kendall, a fiercely determined Chicago homicide detective with a haunted past. When she's confronted with a gruesome murder that eerily connects to a notorious historical figure, Elizabeth Short, the Black Dahlia, Abby's investigation kicks into high gear. As she delves deeper, the discovery of a series of similar murders across NHL cities reveals a twisted and meticulous pattern.

Neal crafts a pulse-pounding narrative that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. The tension is palpable as Abby races against time to unravel the mysteries shrouding the killer's motives and methods.

From the moment I started reading, I was gripped by the tension and mystery surrounding Abby Kendall's investigation. Abby, a tenacious Chicago detective, is the kind of character you can't help but root for – strong, determined, and haunted by her past. As she uncovers a chilling trail of macabre murders, the story takes unexpected twists that kept me hooked.

The way Neal weaves history into the narrative, connecting the present-day crimes to the infamous Black Dahlia case, adds a layer of intrigue that I couldn't resist. The pacing is relentless, and the chilling details of the murders are painted vividly, making this thriller an immersive experience.

Remember The Monsters by William Neal.
Abby Kendall, a firebrand Chicago homicide detective, investigates. Tough, resolute, and emotionally vulnerable, she soon uncovers a string of five other macabre murders – in big cities with NHL franchises, like Chicago. Crimes that appear to be the work of a shockingly brilliant serial killer. As Remember The Monsters barrels forward, Abby’s relentless pursuit of justice leads her down a path far darker and more sinister than anything she thought imaginable: evidence points to one of pro hockey’s superstars as the prime suspect. His name is Shane Donnelly – Abby’s estranged husband.
I really enjoyed this book. Great story and characters. I loved Abby. I hope there is more to come. 5*.
