This book contains a detailed explanation of what happened and what is happening in Afghanistan. I could get to know the political and social scenarios in the country. Author have tried to presnt fact and history without bias to both sides. Pictures added also helps in getting overall idea about the lives, geography and environment of the country.
This is a good coverage of the facts from the land which have been consistently looted, ruined and destroyed, firstly by Muslim Invaders who converted complete population with brutality from Hindus and Buddhists to Islam and then British, then by Russians and Final nail in coffin hammered by USA.
Michael covered all details with pictures to elaborate the mishappenings done by America which by any means could not be healed. There is now no better life in Afghanistan for the indigenous people. Women are prone on to get raped if they don't follow Sharia Law, which is completely nonsensical.
Author here shown the struggles of US Soldiers to make a better world but for real facts they were merely order taking puppets who were invested by US to control the Asia from one pinpoint. US unnecessarily jumped in this war just to split USSR and break them apart from their dominance in the said regions. The sole purpose of USSR was to really fought with terrorism but contrarily US only wanted to sell their more weapons and to show the world how strong they were. But that was all for fake power. Even with nuclear power and modern weapons USA already lost Vietnam war which they fought so dearly for almost 20 years. But still they leaped from that era to here to again becoming the lost cause.
First America nourished the terror faces mainly Osama-bin-laden then when he became the thorn in ankle they killed him. No matter how Americans praised themselves for being the first world country, but they for real are the back-logged British which have decided to stayed back after 1776 and first action they took was to step aside the native Americans who have been named Red-Indians by Columbus.
Pictures, though, were very impressive and Michael collated the info on war in Afghanistan very well. Even if the real history was so much haunting, one can't deny the fact that this picture book gives enough of the happenings in this very modern times of radical fundamentalism of people, on what was once a land of peaceful Hindu Shahis Dynasty, who took over from Buddhists who themselves were Hindus and followed Gautam Buddha to become his disciples.
Each time USA played a vital role in snatching the real life from the Afghans. Otherwise, it was not tough to eradicate terrorists with abundance of weapons and armed men. Actually, USA never wanted this to end until "POTUS" 'Donald Trump' who didn't wanted his army to fight unworthy and unyielding wars. In his words, '‘No more wasted lives,’ he’d said in 2013; ‘Rebuild the US first'.
Overall, I like the way Michael presented whole information with facts and keeping both sides on equal measures by not distorting the historical events. I would love to read more from him in future, mainly if he carries same concept.
The last twenty-odd years of history where Afghanistan is concerned – told in pictures as well as words. And yes, the pictures do often break up the flow of the main storyline too much, but they all get their fairly substantial caption, so things are reinforced as we turn these pages, even if we have to cover the ground twice. I think this is a fine effort, but I really don't know how accurate, balanced or controversial it will prove to be considered by those knowledgeable about such matters. (Just from the prologue alone I can see some barracking this for mentioning the Islamist separatist side of the Uygur issue.) So while I think it's worth giving four stars, I say so in a whisper in case I'm very wrong.
