A grumpy sunshine romance ft. age gap friendship? LOVE. This is a fun (and funny) story ft. forced proximity, second chances, and a whole lot of drama. A genuinely enjoyable read that will have you desperate for more.
The Home Share by Sally Clements was a really cute, fun read!
I enjoyed the book and would definitely pick up more books by the Author!
This was a sweet romance story. There were elements of forced proximity and fake dating which are two of my favourite tropes!
I liked Evie and Jake, while they could have been developed slightly more I didn’t feel it took too much from the story. I did love Eleanore though!
This was a quick paced enjoyable read that I would recommend if you’re looking for an easy sweet romance read.
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.
i love a cheesy romance but this was a bit too cheesy for me, i needed a little less cliche which can be fun to lean into, this just leaned into them a bit too much for me
"The Home Share" by Sally Clements offers a light-hearted romantic tale centered around the theme of home sharing, blending elements of forced proximity and fake relationships. While the novel presents an enjoyable plot and features characters with quirks that add charm to the story, it falls short in providing a fully immersive experience.
The third-person narration offers a broad perspective on the characters, but the depth of their personalities seems limited. It feels like the surface is only scratched, leaving readers craving a deeper understanding of the characters' backgrounds, motivations, and growth throughout the narrative.
The book incorporates popular romance tropes, such as forced proximity, but takes a refreshing approach by having Evie and Jake exhibit respect and understanding from the outset. This departure from the typical animosity between characters adds a unique twist to the romance genre.
Despite the enjoyable plot, there are instances where the story feels rushed, missing opportunities to delve into certain aspects that could have enriched the narrative. The pacing, at times, detracts from the depth of the storytelling, leaving readers wanting more substance.
The characters, while fun and quirky, lack the oomph needed to make them truly memorable. The relationships and dynamics could benefit from more exploration and development to create a stronger emotional connection with the readers.
The novel introduces the common third-act breakup, a staple in romance books, but the resolution might feel abrupt, and some loose ends could be tied up more neatly. The ending leaves the reader with a sense of things being incomplete, lacking a comprehensive wrap-up.
In conclusion, "The Home Share" is a quick and enjoyable read, perfect for those seeking a light-hearted romance. While the novel has its merits, including a fun plot and endearing characters, there's room for improvement in terms of character depth, pacing, and a more satisfying conclusion.
3.7 rounded up to 4/5.
To summarize, there are three main characters to this story - Evie, a down-on-her-luck twentysomething forced to relocate because she's outpriced in her own neighbourhood; her elderly neighbor Eleanore, who offers her a place to live, and Jake, Eleanore's distrustful grandson.
I was a little bit let down after reading this one especially since the general premise is kind of like catnip to me. There's nothing that's more fun than romantic hijinks between a distrustful man, feeling protective of a loved one, and the woman he so deeply distrusts. The characters were fine but I felt like they were deeply surface-level - I don't think I got to know anyone that well at all. I appreciate a good third-person perspective but I think it's important if you're choosing that POV, that the audience still feels immersed in what's happening. I think having a separate POV for Eleanore as well, didn't really lend the book to succeed with me.
I did think the plot was fun, though! It was kind of a sweet love story and overall, generally a fun time. It was a quick read, and while the story felt rushed in some places, the dynamic between Evie and Jake felt natural and sweet.
I loved reading Jake and Evies story!! It was spellbinding and I loved every word of it. It was so good! It was the perfect book to curl up and get lost in the pages of.

A very fun quick read. Enjoyed the characters, the plot and the romance. Very relaxing, and enjoyable.
This book was a mixed bag. It was a cute rom-com but it would have benefitted from character development. There were elements of tell don't show with regard to the romance. it felt forced at times.
This book uses the miscommunication trope which is not a favorite of mine. I prefer when people are open and honest. The ending felt rushed with some areas left unfinished.
Overall it was an okay read and I would recommend it to people looking for something light hearted to read.
I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review all thoughts and opinions are my own.
– Your typical fake dating situation when lies become real!
I find that the story has great potential from the premises, yet it didn’t have a good execution. There are many confusing transitions of time and POV, also the pace is a bit rushed which makes the main character's development seem shallow.
The side character, however, is very lovable--Eleanore is just so sweet and supportive + her relationship with Felix is just so cute. This story would be better if there was more depth to the bond between Eleanore and Jack’s family, and also between Evie and her mother.
Despite the missing elements, I’d still recommend this to those who is in search of a fun contemporary romance read.
It was such a funny, sweet read, the characters (Jack and Evie) are so fun and cute, and the story develops so well that kept me enganged from begginning to end.
Evie needs somewhere to live and Eleanore her cat sitter is looking for a home share, serendipity or what.
Jake had a call from his mother his grandmother is getting old and his mum thinks irs tome to go into a home.
Jake is over in Dublin for work and makes time to visit his grandmother and is very surprised to see her new housemate, he decides to stay and make sure this housemate is not taking advantage.
Evie is surprised when Jake moves in and when he asks her for help with a work situation sparks fly, but can evies bruised heart handle taking another chance on love.
A great story that keeps you interested the whole way through.
Such a fun book! This is a quick, sweet forced proximity/fake relationship trope that I adored! The main characters, Evie and Jake, are fun and quirky, and easy to cheer for throughout the story! Even the side characters are loveable and fit wonderfully into the story. I would read this one over and over, and certainly recommend to a friend! A very sweet, girl meets boy next door, enemies to lovers romance.
The story is centred around 3 main characters - Evie, Eleanor and Jake. Evie and Eleanor are neighbours and Evie's rental house is being sold, as she is unable to find anywhere suiting her needs (and her cat) and with no family, her elderly neighbour Eleanor says she can live with her for a bit. Then Eleanor's grandson decides he is coming back from Dublin and moves back in with Eleanor as he is suspicious of Evie's motives. Eh go the enemies to lovers romance kicks off between Evie and Jake. Things escalate when Jake needs Evie to fake date him when a business deal falls through and sparks start to fly.
This book was so cute and fluffy. It was easy to read . Definitely RECOMMENDED 👍🤍
"The Home Share" by Sally Clements is a heartwarming and engaging romance that explores the unique concept of shared living arrangements. Clements' storytelling is endearing, with relatable characters and a delightful plot filled with love, second chances, and the importance of community. A feel-good read for romantics.
This was a cute romcom. Evie ends up moving in with her elderly neighbour when her roommate moves. It works well for both of them but Eleanore’s handsome grandson worries Evie is trying to take advantage of his grandma so he also ends up moving in. Since it is a romcom they of course develop a romantic relationship. The characters were fun and quirky and I enjoyed this book.
Due to unforeseen technical issues I unfortunately cannot leave a review for this book as galley and Kendall are not working very well together so unfortunately I didn’t have chance to read this because it wasn’t downloaded properly onto my kindle because it wasn’t sent to my kindle properly, so unfortunately I cannot leave a review for this book, but I do look forward to potentially picking it up in the future

I felt this was a really happy go lucky romance which I found enjoyable but (sorry!) having read The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood recently the whole fake dating thing feels a bit repetitive to me (BUT that does not detract away from this still being a good book).
This story is a quick and fun read that has forced proximity with the fake relationship trope, and it definitely made my rom-com heart happy.
Evie is unique in her own way and Jake is ambitious and smart. This was really a sweet story and I enjoyed it!
