This novel came up as a book suggestion for me and I was intrigued to discover it is only one novel in a long list of publications by Nick Triplow, an author I had never heard of. I am glad that I was able to read a free ARC and discover this fresh authorial voice that fictionalises contemporary London, or rather, two London Institutions that neither tourists nor most citizens never get to know: the Home Office and the Metropolitan Police. Triplow’s storyline lifts the lid on alleged whistleblowing, coercion, corruption, nefarious goings-on and even murder in a fictionalised Home Office. DS Max Lomax, on enforced leave after a police operation to snare a gangster went wrong, finds himself compelled to investigate the suspicious death of a senior civil servant, a decision that will set in motion an unbelievable chain of events. He is truly a guy who will never walk away ... So well-written that I often forgot we are dealing with fiction here, this is a thriller to look out for. I will definitely search out Triplow’s back list now and would like to thank the publishers and NetGalley for the free ARC that enabled me to familiarise myself with the author’s work and to produce this honest book review.
Enjoyable
I really liked Max and his devil may care attitude ( with hidden sensitivity ) and his determination to make the best of every situation wether he liked it or not would serve us all well
The story is intriguing and more than plausible and had me hooked from the initial visit to retrieve the document onwards
Well written and yes occasionally I did have to pause and think who was who but that was fine
