I will write a full review of this book but I need time to ruminate on it. I started to read it a few months ago, after attending a talk by the author, so I was looking forward to reading it. I did find the start slow, it was straight into a sad time in the protagonist’s life when it wasn’t yet clear who the protagonist was. Once I got about 20% in (which took a few attempts) I was hooked. It was such a gentle story, reminiscent of Back to the Future, Outlander and The Time Traveller’s Wife. I really enjoyed it and have already recommended it to friends.

Young is obviously very good at writing fantasy-adjacent novels set in small-town America. However, there's something about her writing that leaves me a bit cold emotionally. I appreciated the narrative and found that compelling, but couldn't really connect with the characters very well. Maybe that's just me though!

This book is stunning! Filled with mystery and magic. I adore Adrienne Young’s writing style, it’s so atmospheric and beautiful.
Just like with spells for forgetting I got lost in the world created within the pages of this book.

This is such a tender, touching book. Although it tackles dark themes of abuse, estrangement, and abandonment, it still retains a captivating sense of wonder and heart. The time traveling plotline and central mystery are masterfully done (and so clever!) but at its core, it's a book a book about relationships, found family, and rediscovering oneself. Adrienne Young's prose sucked me in and the small town atmosphere was so palpable that it was almost a character unto itself. I loved it!

The best thing about this book is the atmosphere, I loved it. The characters were not my favourite, but I appreciate the story and world building. This book is perfect for Autumn and I highly recommend it to everyone! This convinced me I should be reading more Adrienne Young books.

This was such a surprise, I read and enjoyed Spells for Forgetting by this author but this book knocked it out of the park.

What a brilliant story! I loved the twists, loved that the story did not go where I predicted it would in the first half. I truly believed I had the plot all worked out but alas, I did not.

It was super heartwarming and had some great moments of found family. The time travel stuff was a tiny confusing, but I am awful with that kind of thing. But this book was so so clever.

Also ADORED the romance, I wasn't expecting it to be what it was but I adored it. And I loved how it progressed from nothing to something (trying not to spoil anything).

Definitely will continue to read all this authors future works. Highly recommend.

An enjoyable mystery with plenty of twists and turns. I'd previously heard that it was "witchy" but I would describe more as having magical elements.

Mysterious, emotional and compelling are words best used to describe this book. This is a book that will have you cooking up conspiracy theories while leaving you completed satisfied with its ending.

The story follows the Farrow women, cursed to spiral into madness. There’s a tonne of mysteries surrounding the women in the family that I absolutely cannot say more about without spoiling.

Adrienne Young’s writing style is fantastic, you’re truly sucked in and the book plays out like a film. Her books absolutely never miss, the few books I haven’t yet read by her I’ll certainly be purchasing.

This book took a little longer to get into than spells for forgetting. It really took the first 20% to get into its stride. But, I do wonder if it’s because it was a different world/ story to the first book. Which I was not expecting I thought it was a series/ followed the same characters they absolutely so not. But it follows a similar story arc of a small town mystery and magical realism. I really hope we get more in the style from the author as I devoured it.

After reading Spells For Forgetting earlier in the year and now The Unmaking Of June Farrow, I can confidently say Adrienne Young is an auto buy author for me now.

It takes such talent to be able to tell a story that both enchants you and breaks your heart simultaneously.
The writing was seamless and felt effortless to read. I could vividly picture everything in my mind thanks to Young’s atmospheric prose. The plot was captivating and I couldn’t wait to see how June would break her curse or what her inevitable choice would be.

If I had to critique something, I would say that the murder mystery aspect was probably the weakest part of the plot - but the *vibes* of the book more than make up for it in my opinion.

Adrienne Young is such a wonderful author, who can completely submerg you in the atmosphere and world she's created. This one had a little bit of everything I love - mystery, magic, strong characters and twists!!

Definitely a big fan of this one, and highly recommend!

This was one of my favourite reads this month! Young has this way with words that just makes you feel like you are right there with the main character!

I feel like I shouldn’t say too much about the actual plot,it could spoil the book, but I was so so impressed and it’s just written so beautifully - it’s perfect for a cold night to get all cosy with and it really brings that family, home, magical vibe all together with ALL the emotions!

The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young is one of the best, most thought provoking books I've read this year.

June's story absolutely gripped me from the start. I loved Adrienne's writing and the atmosphere and mystery she creates. This is one of those books you want to both race through and savour.

I enjoyed the reflection on the passage of time and how we can be different people at different stages of our lives, and how this links to the Farrow family curse and June's determination to be the last Farrow affected. The way Adrienne explores marriage, motherhood and family through this lens really hit hard for me.

The Unmaking of June Farrow is an absolutely stunning book that will stay with me for a long time.

I hadn't read anything by Adrienne Young before but I am a fan of magical realism stories and her writing was recommended by a friend so I had to read this.

This has very atmospheric descriptive writing and there is a lot of emotions around how close June is with her family that really comes across strongly.

It does take a while into the book before the mysterious family illness shows itself strongly in the story leading to some events I didn't predict at all from this small town story.

There is a mystery that June has to solve and I had no idea how that was going to turn out so it was nice to be surprised.

It was a nice easy read and I did find it wrapped up nicely in the end.

'The Unmaking of June Farrow' is on another level of awesome! It's complex, unique, tempting, unpredictable, surprising, jaw-dropping, and exhausting to your brain cells, dragging you into an unusual story of the Farrow women and their complex family history.

The plot centers on June Farrow, the only living member of the Farrow family, who is 34 years old and resides in Jasper, North Carolina. She is grieving her grandmother, who raised her along with her closest friend Birdie after her mother, Susanna, suffered from mental illness.

The story itself was incredibly beautiful and well thought out. The author does a fantastic job of setting the scene to the point where you almost feel like you are there with the characters and seeing and hearing everything that they are. The writing itself was also very beautiful but not overly flowery or poetic. Adrienne Young does a wonderful job with creating a captivating atmosphere in her writing, and once you get started, it's hard to actually put the book down.

The only issue I had with 'The Unmaking of June Farrow' is more of a 'me' problem overall. The book does include the aspect of time travel that I just couldn't quite wrap my head around. I also want to say that even though I never quite made sense of it, didn't ruin my enjoyment of the novel at all, but I do think that it was a bit more complicated than it needed to be.

The Unmaking of June Farrow is overall a brilliant read that I can recommend. if you love a beautifully written, immersive, atmospheric story with mystery, magical realism, a touch of romance and a time travel element, you may want to give this a try!

I absolutely love novels by Adrienne Young and I loved The Unmaking of June Farrow.
This was full of time travel, magic and romance.
It was written really well and I loved the world building and characters.
Without giving spoilers I really enjoyed reading this novel.

The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young is an adult fantasy with hints of magical realism that hooked me from the beginning. I am a sucker for star-crossed love. Think Outlander but with a much softer touch - weaving romance, time travel, and a murder mystery all together. I felt so concerned over the choices June would be forced to make and am fascinated by the strength of sisterhood and sacrifice in this book.

In my opinion, you’ll either love this or you won’t. The nature of time travel leaves loose ends (and is very hard to write) and the explanation given doesn’t sound like the time loop was closed completely but it was closed enough for me. You’ll love this atmospheric story if you (in general) like Adrienne Young novels, small town mysteries, and strong familial ties.

WOW this book blew me away!
I devoured it in one single day and loved every minute!
The writing is beautiful and Adrienne Young has transported to a different place in different periods!
I loved the time travel element to this and was worried that i would get a little lost- i didn't and found it captivating, wanting to figure out the mystery of it all!
The book was SO moving and heart-breaking and romantic all at the same time

One of the best books of the year for me by far and i cant wait to read EVERYTHING young has to offer!
