Thank you for the opportunity to read this gripping novel. From page one - I was hooked !
Such an amazing read and was very well written. Can't wait to read more books from this author.
Please keep an eye out for my review on tiktok and goodreads :)
Thanks to #NetGalley and #BoldwoodBooks for the ARC #TheIntruder by #JABaker. I enjoyed this book with the back story, mixed with current day and the lurkings about mixed with a little paranormal.
JA Baker has developed Cross House into one of the main characters in this book and set this unsuspecting family in the middle of a haunted history. As a mentally and physically fragile Faye works to regain her health, her husband and children have settled in and made themselves quite at home. Faye, not so much. As the story moves between reality and Faye's reality, Baker has again woven a story within a story that will give you goose bumps. It's amazing how Baker manages to keep writing stories at this level. She definitely has "thrill" in her fingers.
The Intruder by J A Baker is another well written thriller.
This book was a good read and kept me engaged.
I was completely consumed as soon as I concluded the first chapter. There was no shortage of twists and turns and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. The twist was insane and unpredictable!
The story is full of tension, intrigue, and twists.

Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.
Thanks to Boldwood Books for this arc. This has to be my favourite book so far by the author.. proper chilling and EERIE.
When hugh and faye buy a large run down house to do up, to escape things that happened in their previous home. Their new home has history!!!!!!
When faye starts to wake in the early hours of the morning with a feeling somebody is in their bedroom, hugh sleep through everything and is convinced faye is heading towards another breakdown. Faye is determined to find out what is going on. Will faye uncover the truth? Or is it all in fayes mind?
Great physcological thriller, i was gripped, couldnt put it down 5๐๐๐๐๐ read from me...
Oh wow, what a creepy book. Loved this one. It was so ghostly and eerie I couldn't put it down. The ending just blew me away. So good. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I was excited for this book but it ended up not being that great for me.
The summary made it sound interesting but it was slow moving and rather far fetched. Who has so many things happen without making a call to the police for help? Who lets so many strange things and attacks just go?
And parts of the ending were rather predictable the further on I got.
I struggled a bit with this book and only continued hoping it would get a bit more exciting. It was a bit slow with not very interesting characters and it didnโt really lead anywhere . The ending was pretty much as expected . Only 3 stars from me Iโm afraid
This book is very well written, in that the creepy, hairs standing up on the back of your neck feeling, is there from the beginning and keeps the tension rising throughout the book.
We don't know throughout of this is something supernatural or if it is the even more terrifying thought that it isn't!
I felt for Faye and the unstable emotional ride she was taken on and her sole desire to protect her children.
Highly recommend!
I really shouldn't have read this one at night because the hairs on my arms were standing up and I was double checking all the locks! It's literally every woman's worst nightmare and this book brought it to life perfectly. Its very creepy and has a really rense atmosphere built up throughout. I didn't really like the characters but I also don't like a lot of people in real life so that doesn't mean much. I really enjoyed this one
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood books for access to this Arc in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoy reading books from this author, building suspense since the beginning. I thought it was one culprit all along but it turns out I was wrong lol. Overall, a very enjoyable read.
Thank you to NetGalley and bold wood books for my ARC of this book due to be published 16th September 2023.
This is an eerie, atmospheric, chilling read that gets under your skin and is the perfect thriller for spooky season.
Faye, husband Hugh and their two kids are moving into their new home - cross house. It needs a lot of work but after a troubling 12 months for the family they are all ready for a new start. Cross house has its own history and as the family peel back the layers on the house in renovations they also peel back the secrets that cross house has been holding onto.
Excellent story, but of a slow burner but I enjoyed the twists. Would probably not read again but enjoyable all the same
Absolutely fantastic - canโt wait to read more from this author!!
Fast paced thriller that packs a real punch! Brillaint!
This was the the perfect book to kick off spooky September. Right off the bat I was intrigued with this storyline and could not put it down. With a slightly unreliable FMC, creepy old house, phantom figure and kids saying creepy things, this has all the elements for a perfect gothic horror read. I throughly enjoyed unraveling the mystery of Cross House with our slightly unreliable and unhinged FMC. She was just the right amount of those things to make the story captivating without making the reader question everything they're reading, I loved that. I really could understand her paranoia and how she felt like she was losing her mind because I honestly felt the same. All these characters were really well written and the story had depth. There is nothing lacking here at all.
That ending though!!!! Can we talk about that ending scene!?!!?! Downright creepy!!!
The Intruder gets 5 SOLID stars from me!!!
Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for my eARC of this book. All opinions are 100% my own.
Faye and her husband, Hugh have moved to Cross House after a very traumatic year. Faye was attacked by a co-worker who then would not accept that she wasn't interested in him, and was attacked by Hugh's son.
They are hoping that the tranquil village life will be good for Faye's mental health.
The house has a tragic past though, and every night, Faye can feel that someone is in her bedroom, but when she searches the house, it is still locked, and there are no signs of an intruder.
She does research on the original occupants, and uncovers tragic secrets.
A very atmospheric and creepy thriller. Faye has suffered from mental health problems, and her husband, very unfairly, puts her fears down to her mental state.
This book is hard to put down, and make the reader wonder if those midnight noises are actually their over-active imagination, or an intruder creeping around their house.
I do recommend, if you want the hairs on your arms to stand up and your neck hair to prickle.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I LOVE J A Baker and this book fell right in line with the others! Baker keeps you on the edge of your seat with this book. I read this book in one sitting! However, I am pretty sure I heard noises after I did go to bed ....Cant wait for your next book!
Faye and her family have had a traumatic year and have moved house for a fresh new start. What she doesn't realise is that things are about to get even worse and their dream home may turn out to be a nightmare... who is the intruder coming into the house each night and what do they want?... A fantastic and tense thriller that kept me guessing and turning the pages until the shocking ending. I really enjoyed this, very much recommended!
This is my first book by J A Baker and definitely won't be the last.
It was a complete page-turner, and I read it in one sitting. The intruder starts as your typical mystery whereby a woman hears noises at night but of course, her husband doesn't believe her.
Is Faye making things up in her head or is there someone -or something- lurking in the shadows?
A superb read!!
