I hate having to give such a low score for a book review but I just have to be truthful.
This is my first time reading a book by this author and I am not over the moon for this type of writing style. It was a lot of repetitive explanations of absolutely nothing that went with the plot or storyline. This book could have been summed up in a novella.
Faye, the main character was weak. She was very wishy -washy when it came to the love, like, hate description of her husband. I just did not like this character or this book. It is said to be a thriller but the only thing thrilling was getting to the end. Which made no sense (the last twist was to forced).
I will attempt one more book from this author, after that I will make my final decision on if I will continue to follow the writings of Baker.
Stay tuned!
Good book! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense, Action, intrigue, mystery, revenge, murder, great who done it, great plot twist, and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me
A well written story with plenty of plot twists. The descriptions of the characters and locations are well written. Overall an interesting thriller.
Thank you to J. A. Baker, NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the arc of this book.
This was the first book I read by this author; such an amazing storyteller. J. A. Baker has successfully created a spine-tingling plot with intriguing premise and engaging characters. There are shocking secrets scattered throughout, and the book ends perfectly. I think everyone who enjoys thrillers should read this fantastic psychological thriller book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
Loved this creepy novel as it has a gothic feel to it and has twists and turns around every corner! Faye and Hugh have just bought Cross House which is in disrepair but is expansive and odd even without renovations. Faye begins having what Hugh believes are just nightmares, but she is certain she sees "people" in the house. Of course it doesn't help that there are rumors of a previous owner dying after being pushed down the stairs in 1980. But Hugh is so excited about the house and there is plenty of play area for the two kids so they carry on. But things continue to escalate and Faye is determined to find the truth as she's a writer (in addition to being scared out of her mind after some mental issues earlier)! And when the truth comes out, it's just as frightening as imagined!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
Not sure how i would cope if i was Faye? So much drama in her previous house only to move and things get much much worse!
Really loving this author fresh new story's every time. Well written and interesting characters.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
This is a novel of mystery and intrigue. I like this author, and I try to read as many books as I can by J. A. Baker.
The characters are realistic and come alive on the pages. The story moves quickly. A spooky house. Suspicious characters from the family's life. A stepson who is not what he should be. Neighbors and friends who talk about the house being haunted. Frightened children. The main character is a wife and mother who isn't sure of what is real and what is not. Sounds in the dark. Breathing...a husband who might believe her or not. This is a story of suspense and a real page turner. Thanks to Netgalley for this book.
