I really enjoy reading books by Helen Rolfe, you know they are always enjoyable and relaxing. We are back in Heritage cove again and I am sure there are more stories to come to us from there. Curl up with some spare time and get this book under your thumb, you won't want to put it down. Pity I can only give it 5 stars as it is worth far more than that..
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC
Celeste, who owns the bakery in Heritage Cove with her sister, is shocked when she finds that one of the new owners of the local pub is Quinn, with whom she had a brief fling years before. Will they manage to rekindle their romance, or are there too many obstacles in their way?
An interesting take on life in a small community, with plusses and minuses. There is the natural resistance to change against how pubs struggle nowadays and whether the two can be reconciled. Quinn also has problems with his experiences in the Navy, and Celeste has secrets of her own. While this sounds as if the story could be rather melancholy the opposite is true, with the warm of the community and the feelings between these two make up for this. I haven't read any other books in this series yet, although some are in my TBR list, but this is not a problem as it can be read as a standalone - but I will have to go back and read the others. A great read at any time off the year, but especially Christmas, to fill your small community dreams like mine.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.
Good to be back at Heritage Cove but easily a stand alone. Lots of emotions as the village pub is sold and the owners give it a new name and try not to tread on other peoples toes or upset the locals. The Christmas tree story part was great. The bakes in the bakery sounded yummy. I did get annoyed with Celeste at times. The bakery owner. Children are a delicate subject , honesty pays. From experience it costs marriages. Poor Quinn at times but a good ending. . A jolly good read
Absolutely fantastic to be back among friends, I really feel as if these characters are my friends.
Again the goings on the village were brilliant old faces leaving and new ones coming, a few twists along the way .
A fantastic read as always and can highly recommend
I enjoyed this quick novel about two people who find themselves with a second chance after a memorable short fling years before. Great village setting and a lovely story.
3.5 stars
There was so much I really loved about the one. The quirky small town vibes, a woman who is firm pand outspoken about not wanting children, PTSD representation, and some rally sweet scenes and swoony lines.
But it was just too slow of a burn for me.
What a lovely read. I loved being back in Heritage Cove, and I loved their fabulous community spirit. Everyone supporting everyone, all the support for Barney. So much love.
Quinn was an interesting character too, his PTSD was sympathetically dealt with and his night terrors were described so well that I felt his fear as he was experiencing them. Physically to look at he seemed fit and healthy, but his issue was mental, the unseen medical condition and maybe the one easiest hidden and this book highlighted it beautifully. Celeste and Eddie are great at helping and supporting him, and Gus too by the end.
The chemistry between Celeste and Quinn was off the chart, they each have baggage, but when they share it with each other they can see a way to be together, I loved it. The whole book flowed seamlessly and I was fully embraced by the roaring fire of the Star and Lantern pub with a glass of mulled wine.
Celeste and her sister own a bakery in Heritage Cove. She meets Quinn one day while he’s on leave from the Navy. They have a whirlwind romance and then he goes back to the Navy. Heritage Cove is a lovely sounding village with some delightful shops. At Christmas it’s a picture postcard. Someone new has bought the pub and everyone is hoping the new owners aren’t changing too much.
It a lovely story, full of romance and a little drama. It’s book six in a series and I really don’t think it matters if you’ve not read the previous ones. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for the early copy
A sweet andChristmassy read . Celest and her sister run the bakery at Heritage Cove and when the town's loved pub being bought by new owners everyone is worried . The new owners are two brothes Quinn and Eddie . Quinn used to be in Navy and few years ago when he was on vacation he and Celest had an affair . Now that they are at the same place will they give themself a chance in love ?
I received this book from netgalley and the publicer as an ARC . Thank you . All thoughts and opinions are my own .
Helen Rolfe is an author whose writing I like. I loved The Little Christmas Knitting Box.
Heritage Cove is a village on the east coast of England. The atmosphere is quaint, picturesque and has an amazing sense of community.
The pub The Copper Plow is somewhere that’s central to the community, but it is for sale and due to be turned into a trendy eatery called The Star and Lantern. I felt sad for the pub's closure and the owners as well as all the locals.
Quinn is someone from Celeste’s past. But one day he’s back….Can he be trusted again?
She runs the bakery and her sister is great at cakes. I loved the relationship between them as well as Jade’s cake corner in the bakery.
Helen Rolfe’s writing style is quick yet highly detailed. The characters are realistic and their lives and life issues are, too. The sweet and savoury treats from the bakery made my mouth water. She’s one of my favourite authors.
Thanks to Helen Rolfe, Boldwood Books and Rachel’s Random Resources for my eARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
5 stars but it deserves more.
This is such a lovely book about romance, friendship and community. Celeste runs the local bakery with her sister Jade in Heritage Cove and when the pub landlords sell their pub Celeste and Jade aren’t the only ones in the village wanting to know who has brought it. It turns out that the new owners are brothers Quinn and Eddie. Celeste and Quinn though have history in the shape of an intense romantic liaison years before when Quinn was on leave from the Navy. Will they rekindle their relationship or do they want different things? Heritage Cove sounds like a warm and inviting place with some wonderful people living there. I read this over a 24 hour period as I couldn’t put it down! I didn’t realise that this was part of a series, although it can be read as a standalone, but will definitely being looking out for the previous books! Thanks to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the ARC
