A wonderful selection of folktales and legends from around the world! My little one is almost 3 and she loved the ones about little creatures especially - although I had to simplify some of the language for her at times. This will definitely grow well with her!
Personally I found them all so interesting - albeit a little bizarre and dark at times! I do love reading stories from different cultures and it feels like this seasonal collection was well thought out and researched. Beautifully illustrated too.
This was a beautifully illustrated collection of anthologies about winter-themed fairy tales and folk tales from around the world.
The writing is simple and enjoyable and each story is around one to four pages long, in total 50 stories to enjoy. I loved that it contained stories from cultures we usually don't come across and not just from the most famous countries found in most books.
A World Full of Winter Stories: 50 Folk Tales and Legends from Around the World is a beautifully curated collection of stories that will appeal to children both young and old.
Written in the same format as the author's previous anthologies of folktales, the book is comprised of six themes including Birds and Beasts, Ice and Snow, Spirits and Magic, and others. Both the table of contents and the individual story titles clearly state the country/culture from which each tale originates. The stories range in length from 1 to 3 pages. The illustrations by Olga Baumert are visually stunning and the perfect accompaniment to author's text.
Angela McAllister's previous anthologies of folktales have been ones that my family continues to reach for on our bookshelves and I look forward to adding a World Full of Winter Stories to our collection.
Kind thanks to Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children's Books and NetGalley for an advanced reading copy of this superb book.
Great to see a Winter addition to this series. I have many of these in my classroom and use them often as they are the perfect length for end of day storytime in KS2. Missed the download date to read this unfortunately but it has gone on my Christmas list instead!
I love this whole this whole series and personally own them all, along with have them in my library stacks for patrons. I enjoyed reading these stories and will be reading these out loud to my almost 8 year old this winter. I learn such amazing new stories from this stories, and the different cultures that are highlighted brings such depth to different story telling.
Such a great book! I read it to my nephews and all of us enjoyed it a lot. I will buy the physical copy and would love to read more from you.
We all love the "World Full of..." books in my house so it goes without saying that we were very excited to read and review the latest instalment. The illustrations in Winter Stories are so beautiful and dreamlike that I can't wait to purchase a hard copy for our home library. In terms of the stories, you get a great mix from various cultures around the world including some familiar tales and even more that are completely new to us. Another solid collection of children's tales that we will enjoy for years to come.
This series continues to be one of our favorite bedtime reads. The stories are short but lovely, spur on lots of discussions and lend themselves well to following rabbit trails. My kiddo particularly liked that the stories focused on animals, and then we could learn more about that animal, as well as that they were stories from particular parts of the world. This would align beautifully with homeschool curriculums like Torchlight or Build Your Own Library. Absolutely loved. My son's favorite was The Snow Man, a story from Denmark. The illustrations are lovely and whimsical as well. Highly recommend! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.
A delightful compilation of short winter stories from a wide variety of cultures. Perfect for bedtime or read alouds.

A wonderful collection of folk tales from around the world. I loved the artwork and the stories. I've been reading a story out of it every night for my 4 year old.
A World Full of Winter Stories is the perfect book to read as the seasons are changing and we are closer to winter and snow. It’s a delightful collection of winter stories and tales from around the world and many different cultures and I loved the fable-like quality to the stories. I read a couple of the stories to my 2-year old, but mostly just enjoyed them for myself and would recommend the book to adults and children-alike. I also think it would make a fantastic and unique gift!
Thank you Quarto publishing group and the author Angela McAllister for the arc copy to read and review. It was such a joy to read! All thoughts and opinions are mine.
Thank you NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for allowing me to have an ARC of this book. It is such a big book of stories. 50 stories to last a good chunk of winter.
I did read a few of them to my 7 year old daughter and she loved them. The pictures were super cute and she would just look at them while I read to her. Some are longer than others. My only wish is that there had been a few more shorter stories. We don’t have a lot of bedtime time and one story could take a good 20 mins to read. That may not seem like a lot but 3 different kiddos with different likes adds up.
Thank you to #Netgalley and #Quarto publishing for granting me access to this arc, #AWorldFullof WinterStories in exchange for an honest review.
This charmingly illustrated collection of winter stories evokes many memories of my own childhood, through familiar and unfamiliar stories of enchantment and animals. All the stories are provided with their origin information and are from a multicultural aspect, making the anthology more enjoyable.
This is part of a series of folklore anthologies under the title A world full of ..
Well done, as always! If you have read the others in these series you will recognize the layout and beautiful illustrations. Once again, it does not disappoint. Enchanting stories that expand our world view and understanding of cultures from all over the world. We each had a favorite and I could see us reading these yearly in the winter. My personal favorite was Rainbow Crow. It also had beloved classics like The Mitten. This is a great addition to your winter bookshelf.
I think I have all of the books in this series, and this one is on my pre-order list already.
This book stands out from the rest in the series in terms of writing flair. Winter is a magical season, so I am sure that this will be a hit among my students too.
A wonderful collection of tales from around the world to last all winter.
The book is divided into themed sections: Birds and Beasts, Tricks and Troubles, Ice and Snow, Quests and Journeys, Spirits and Magic, and Christmas. Each illustrated story spans one to three pages, making them quick read-alouds. The continent and country of origin for the stories are included, which makes them easy to include in homeschool curriculum.
Coming in October is this delightful collection of stories compiled by Angela McAllister. A World Full of Winter Stories is a collection of folk tales, fairy tales, fables and well-known legends as diverse as the countries and cultures where they hail from. Broken down into six sections--Birds and Beasts, Tricks and Troubles, Ice and Snow, Quests and Journeys, Spirits and Magic, and Christmas--these stories all capture the essence of winter.
The artwork provided by Olga Baumert is stunning, with an old world feel that captures the beauty of winter, animals, and human emotion.

As a lover of the 'World full of' books, I was very excited to see this whilst browsing NetGalley.
I really enjoyed the variation of stories - I really feel like I learn so much about different cultures when I read these stories. The illustrations, as always, are brilliant and beautiful to look at.
The winter stories definitely have gotten me in the mood for cosy nights sat by the fire, and reading.
A huge thank you to NetGalley for the arc.
What a beautiful book! Stories from around the world, written in the format of a favored Aesop's Fables book I had as a child, these wonderful short (about a page) stories teach a bit of lore and life lessons as well. Beautiful illustrations! What a joy to look at and read. :)
