A humorous romantic drama set in an upmarket dating agency. Though the two main characters had chemistry, it was obvious they would end up together which spoiled the denouement. A Light and easy read.
A hilarious romcom with slow burn romance, grumpy sunshine and marriage of convince tropes.
Poppy Dean is a matchmaker at an elite London agency, she spends her days finding Mr right for everyone expecpt herself.
Poppy is in for a challenge when Tristan Fellows walks into the agency, a bachelor who has no intention of falling in love, but if he wants his 30 million inheritance he needs to have a wife by his 35th birthday.
This might just be Poppy's hardest case yet with Tristan's birthday is only a month away. Tristan's friend is the one who convinces him to use the agency to help with the search. It is a rocky start with disastrous matches, bickering and a connection that they just can't deny you will be turning the pages to see how this unfolds.
I really enjoyed this and the chemistry between Poppy and Tristan, as well as the slow burn in this. I can't wait for the second book as the teaser chapter has piqued my interest.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the chance to read this book.
Match Me If You Can by Sandy Barker is a rom-com with an enemies to lovers type storyline.
Poppy Dean works for an elite London match making agency. After having her heart broken years before, she much prefers to help others sort their love life's while she stas single.
Tristan Fellows is a banker who is happily single and has no plans to marry until his grandfathers will changes things. He must marry by his 35th birthday, or the family fortune is donated to charity. The only problem is his birthday is 4 weeks away.
His best friend/lawyer talks him into engaging the matchmaking agency to stepp things up. Cue some disastrous pairings, bickering and banter between Poppy and Tristan, and an attraction that they try to deny.
This story is light-hearted (aside from a couple of more serious moments) and easy to read. It's one of those stories that you can easily fall into and laugh along out loud with.
I am looking forward to more in this series.
Aw what a cute read! There are so many references to the big rom com films and this fits right in!
The slow burn, marriage of convenience, grumpy-sunshine, funny, whitty and full if humour this book is exactly what you need if you want to feel all warm and cosy this autumn!
A sparkly and fun romance, with (in my opinion) an underused premise of one lead character trying to find love for the other. Of course, the perfect match is closer than they think!
From the very first book I read by Sandy Barker, she has been one of my automatic purchase authors and I consider her to be the Queen of Armchair Travel. Given her own love of travel, it is no surprise that she writes travel into her books so effortlessly.
Her latest novel, and first book in a new series, Match Me If You Can by Sandy Barker is a fabulous slow burn of a romance, with two characters who have a grumpy sunshine connection, and palpable chemistry that will make you want to keep reading.
I love the way in which the characters are multi-faceted and well drawn. Written in first person narrative, I found myself drawn to the characters and their individual personalities as I learned more about them with the progression of the novel. I also loved the additional characters, who added to the story.
Although the story is predominantly set in London, it would never be a Sandy Barker novel without some armchair travel so the reader is taken to various locations in Europe. There were some really humorous moments, particularly with regards to the dates that Poppy arranged for Tristan as his matchmaker.
Match Me If You Can is an entertaining slow burn romance, and the beginning of the Ever After Agency series of books, and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
I liked both main characters in this book. Enlisting a super exclusive and secretive matchmaking agency to find a woman for a marriage of convenience to meet the requirements of a hefty trust is a little far from reality but it was still a fun plot. The disastrous dates, the great friends of both MC, the grumpy meets sunshine were very fun elements that kept the book moving along.
The dual POV didn't really seem necessary in this book. With the short chapters/segments it was more distracting than insightful.
I'm looking forward to a second book because the teaser chapter presented a pretty intriguing setup. I don't really care what Tristan and Poppy are up to in the future but I'm interested in another matchmaking scenario.
Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. I am required by federal law to disclose this.
Sandy Barker is a QUEEN at making me want to read just one more chapter...then another...then another until I've devoured the entire book. I loved both Poppy and Tristan. Tristan comes across as a grumpy wanker banker, but we see a different side of him. And boy did I fall for him as much as Poppy did!
This book had some laugh out loud moments, especially the trip to Greece and Vittoria climbing into the "wrong" bed. I really liked the slow burn and how everyone could notice that Poppy and Trista liked each other, but they couldn't admit it to themselves. I adored Jacinda and Ravi- they were fantastic friends!
Between the love match, the travels, the longing looks and the zingers, I smiled throughout this entire book!
The premise of 'Match Me If You Can' intrigued me, but the book overall fell a bit short of my expectations. I enjoy a slow-burn and the marriage of convenience trope, but the plot was a bit too over the top with some of the prospective brides the agency lined up, and I wasn't sold on the anonymous blogger story line.
Overall, an okay read. I really liked Poppy, I wasn't fully sold on Tristan, whose insecurities at times were a bit irritating. A lighthearted read, if you're looking for a bit of escapism.
I REALLY enjoyed this! Thank you netgalley for the chance to review.
Poppy is a match maker, working at a prestigious match making company for England's elite and wealthy: Tristan is a soon-to-be wealthy man who must marry someone before his birthday in order to inherit a fortune. With that hook, what could go wrong?
I think where this story shines is its banter: british romance just GETS banter. Poppy and Tristan are believable right from the start, and the story doesn't shy away from the absurdity of Tristan having to marry on a whim to cash in from his grandfather. The twists and turns with the different potential suitors is funny and enjoyable, and the slow-burn between Tristan and Poppy really pays off, even if most of the steam is PG-13.
The ending was predictable but adorable, and the side characters really bolstered the romance! I see this is a series and I'm excited to grab the next one!
I adored this book and it really hit every trope that I like to read, all in one story! So if you like enemies to lovers, marriage of convenience and of course grumpy sunshine, then you'll love this one!
Enemies to lovers-check and Marriage of convenience-check and Grumpy & Sunshine all of them available!
Poppy works for the Ever After Agency, an elite matchmaking company known for working with exclusive clientele. She has nicknamed her latest client “Mr Impossible“ because he is known to not be on board with the whole idea. But as soon as Tristan “Impossible” walks in, the sparks start to fly between him and Poppy even as she is working to set him up with his future wife, and the clock is ticking as there is a very large inheritance on the line. So the obvious solution is a marriage of convenience!!! It's very cute and I really like it.
“Match Me if You Can” is a fun read. With its mixture of romantic tropes, it keeps the story moving at an easy pace.
A marriage of convenience is necessary for the MMC and through the use of an exclusive matchmaking service, chaos ensues. You find yourself clearly rooting for a grumpy/sunshine match with the FMC throughout.
I enjoyed this book from Sandy Barker and can’t wait to read the next one in the series. Thank you Sandy Barker, NetGalley, and Boldwood Books for this ARC.
It wasn’t awful but it really wasn’t good. The only two likeable characters were Ravi and Jacinda; everyone else has too much they needed to work on. I’m not a fan of her writing style and the MCs falling in love was almost too unrealistic. Eh. I liked the overall plot of things though 🤷🏽♀️
So I absolutely love enemies to lovers. So when I realised Match Me if you Can was enemies to lovers with a bit of grumpy vs sunshine thrown in, I was immediately sold!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Poppy works for the elusive Ever After Agency, which is a dating agency that not just anyone can join. Poppy loves her job and loves bringing people together, however her latest challenge is more Mr Impossible than love at first sight.
Tristan has one month to find a wife (not a bride…) before he loses his £30 million inheritance. But one wrong woman after another has Poppy worrying that she won’t find Tristan his Mrs Right before time runs out. Or will she?
I really loved the narrative between the two character throughout the story, also I love a dual perspective book so I really thought this gave both the characters depth, whilst letting the reader see their inner most thoughts.
Thank you Sandy Barker, Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion. Match Me if you Can is out now and I would definitely recommend picking yourself up a copy!
Brilliant romance, thoroughly enjoyed. Tristan and Poppy are just fabulous and the other "matches", especially Vittora, are a lot of fun to read about. The bed thing was perfect!! #iykyk
It's one of those will they/won't they books where you know what you want to happen, and what the characters want to happen, but there are so many reasons why they shouldn't that you're not sure if/when they're going to get there. The sexual tension is 🔥🔥🔥!
Highly recommend!
Thank you to @netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my review.
I loved, loved, loved this cute rom com. This would make such a great film. It had me laughing out loud at some of the moments in this book and don't you just love it when you know your characters feelings before they do?
Poppy works for an agency where she matches potential clients together. She loves her job and is passionate about her work. When she is assigned the case to work with Tristan she is hopeful she can make a match to fulfil his wishes. Even if he is a bit grumpy. She doesn't expect to see a vulnerable side to him as they go along. Tristan has complications where he must marry before his next birthday to receive his inheritance. Time is of the essence to match him with a wife.
This story was predictable but I loved it all the same. The characters were great and the fun they go on along the way is a joy to read. I would definately read more from this author as I liked her writing and with a duel point of view which is one of my favourite things in books.
This would be a perfect valentines day read ❤️X
BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'Match Me If You Can' by Sandy Baker.
Read and reviewed for Sandy Baker, Boldwood Books, Book & Tonic, NetGalley and Rachel's Random Resources Tours.
Publication date 28th September 2023.
This is the first book I have read by this author. It is also the first book in the 'Ever After Agency' series.
This novel consists of 40 chapters. The chapters are short in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book has fantastic descriptions that set you straight in the scenes. The cover, title and synopsis suit the storyline perfectly.
'Match Me If You Can' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Sandy discusses/includes a supporting character that has fertility issues with unsuccessful IVF attempts.
Where the heck have you been hiding all my life Sandy!!! Love, LOVE, LOVED this absolutely gorgeous page turner!! An absolute must read!!!
OMG!!! I absolutely LOVED this gorgeous page turner and I cannot WAIT for the next book in this series to come out along with getting stuck in to all of Sandy's previous books!! They are just guaranteed to be stunning!! I absolutely adored the unique storyline which is hard to come by when it comes to romance books as there are so many out there but Sandy has created an absolutely gorgeous storyline which I cannot wait to continue in the next book in this series!!!! Poppy works for the Happily Ever After agency and has to find her client Tristan a woman to marry before his 35th birthday or Tristan will lose millions of pounds from his inheritance. Poppy manages to match him up to another client who has to marry and stay married for 5 years or she will get cut off from her father's wealth. However, things are definitely not smooth sailing and there is drama, unwanted bedtime visits and it leaves you wondering if Tristan will ever find his Happily Ever After!!! Poppy and Tristan head off to Greece and Edinburgh on their matchmaking travels and OMG Sandy's stunning evocative writing skills really does bring Greece, Edinburgh , London and the characters to life. I absolutely adored being swept off on holiday and was so absorbed that on the rare moments I looked up it took me a while to realise I was in Wales at home and not in Greece on a boat or outside Edinburgh Castle!!! The storyline is stunning and is ram packed with friendship, romance, holidaying, fun, sarcasm and is an absolutely stunning escapism romantic read!!! This is one of those books that are very easy to read and perfect for any reading situations whether you are laying on a beach or curled up in front of a fire. It is an absolutely ideal read for anyone who is looking for a gorgeous and relaxing read that will have you hooked from beginning to end. I absolutely LOVED the realism of this storyline which made it so easy to picture everything that was going on which had been helped by Sandy's fantastic evocative writing skills. I cannot wait to get hooked into more of Sandy's books so I hope she is busy writing her next stunner in this series while I get stuck into her previous books!! This is definitely one of those books that will turn a frown upside down and make life seem a lot brighter. Grab your copy today and fall in love with The Ever After Agency series today!!!
Well done Sandy on an absolutely stunning and perfect start to what promises to be an absolutely stunning series!!!
This may be the first book I have read by Sandy but I cannot wait to get hold of more books by this extremely talented author!!!
It is always worrying when starting a new series as you have no idea who the characters are. It is very important for me to bond with not only the lead protagonists but also any characters that may make repeat appearances during the series too.
The characters were all an eclectic mix and each one of them were realistic and strong. I was completely invested in them all. It also makes them more realistic, believable and made me feel even more for them than I normally would. I absolutely loved Poppy who I thought was a friendly, strong, likeable woman and I was rooting for her throughout. My heart went out to her when certain things were happening and she felt stuck between a rock and a hard place although I won't say any more about that. She was funny, sarcastic, friendly and everything anyone could ask for in a fantastic female protagonist!!! I wasn't sure what to think of Tristan at first but he quickly grew on me and I loved his friendship with Ravi and Jacinda, along with Poppy's friendship with Shaz. There were just so many amazing characters that I loved getting to know that I could write about them all day but I don't want to bore you so I'll start to wrap it up here. However, I will add that there was definitely a very cringeworthy character but their antics made me laugh and there wasn't any characters I disliked, which makes a huge change for me as there is normally at least one character!!! Actually, hold that thought !!! I spoke to soon!!! Tristan's Aunt was a horrid money grabbing character but thankfully we don't have to put up with her much!!! Each of the characters are memorable and unique in their own ways and they are a group that I wont be forgetting any time soon! I cannot wait to meet them all again and I'm hoping they will (almost) all be in the next book in this series!!!
Pick up this book and get lost in this absolutely gorgeous page turner! This has got to be the most stunning book I have read this year 💜!!!
Congratulations Sandy on an absolutely stunning read that I just could not put down!!! I am absolutely mind blown that I have never read any of your absolutely gorgeous books yet!! I am looking forward to reading more of your previous and future books especially the next book in what promises to be a stunning series if this gorgeous read is anything to go by. I would absolutely love to see this book turned into a movie!!! Welcome to my favourite author list and here's to your next success 🥂
Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the first two chapters of Sandy's next book in this series which promises to be just as gorgeous as this book. It is one I'm definitely looking forward to reading myself!!
Overall an unputdownable, gorgeous, STUNNING page turning book filled with holidays, romance, fun, laughter, friendship and so much more!! A perfectly relaxing and stunning unique read!!!!
381 pages.
This book is just 99p to purchase on kindle, free with kindle unlimited and £9.99 in paperback at time of review via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

This was a fun book. I loved the banter between Poppy and Tristan. They both had some great friends and I can’t wait to read more from this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC. ~I was given this book and made no commitments to leave my opinions, favorable or otherwise~
I really enjoyed the storyline, but it fell a little flat for me for a few reasons: I feel like the slow-burn didn't slowly build enough. I felt like the relationship between Poppy and Tristan went from nothing to everything. I understand Poppy's hesitation, due to her job, but felt like it was unfounded from other details about her job.
The anonymous blogger part of the storyline didn't feel like it fit for me.
And Tristan really wasn't very likeable for me. It was ok, but I feel like it could have been done much better.
