I really wanted to enjoy this book but I just couldn’t get into it. I found the writing style a bit jerky and it just wasn’t for me, I didn’t finish.
This was cute, almost innocent in the way these two have growing affection for each other. We get some great character development, especially with Alice and seeing her family life as it were and how she interacts with the Moore family. Certainly has its fair share of comedy value and is mildly spicy.
Whilst I appreciate many fans with be pleased to see the hairless cat feature in book two plenty I am not a fan but I know it’s is a personal preference.
I received this book as a free ARC in exchange for an honest review
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC. Below are my honest thoughts on this book.
This book tells the story of Alice Truman, who works in the marketing department at Moore’s department store. Alice and her boss (Thomas Moore) go to Vegas along with his brother and family for said brother’s wedding. They wake up the day of the wedding with matching wedding bands believing they got hitched during their drunken escapades the previous night. Upon returning the New York to get an annulment, Alice received news that her niece was in hospital and that her mother took off. Alice and Thomas stay married in order to foster Alice’s niece, until Alice can find a place the social worker will find acceptable. Alice and Thomas continue to sleep together, and begin to develop feelings for the other. Ultimately, following a 3rd act break up, Alice and Thomas adopt her niece and get their happily ever after.
I really liked this story. It was easy to read and it just made me feel happy. The characters were easy to cheer for, and I felt like I really got to know them and their motivations by the end of the book. I always enjoy reading about a good found family (Alice being adopted created a family for herself).
One of my favorite things about this book was how it made me feel all the feels. There were parts that made me laugh, enough that my husband asked what I was doing. There were parts that made me just feel happy and giddy, and there were parts that made me mad.
I really enjoyed this book, I definitely think it’s one I’ll look to pick up again
After reading Anyone but the billionaire and coming across Mike Hunt, I fell in love with Sara Hudson and knew that I had to read anything she wrote next.
Having seen a bit of Alice and Thomas in the previous book, I was excited that they were getting their own story.
It was fun catching up with Mike Hunt-the over pampered and over loved sphynx. He is such a character.
The bachelorette scene will be forever etched in my mind. I couldn’t stop laughing. I enjoyed how the ‘fake marriage’ changed the dynamics of the story.
I loved how Thomas was portrayed and how he fought not to be like his father. It was fun reading about the lighter side of his character. I loved his character development too- he won my heart totally with the display and his gesture in the epilogue.
I loved that Alice found her HEA despite everything she has been through. I love her bond with Mary and her friendship with Bell, George and Leslie.
This was fun to read (I did not see the twist coming) and there were fun moments that would have you in stitches and other moments that dealt with weightier issues.
If you enjoy fake marriage and forced proximity tropes then you will enjoy this.
I received a copy of this book and the review is mine and voluntary.
I unfortunately didn’t like this book and couldn’t finish it.
I wanted to like it SOO much, it had a good concept but unfortunately was just not for me.
The sex scenes were poorly written, the story itself is cheesy, which is fine, but sometimes it’s TOO much!
I read the first book before this as well and it was a struggle for me to get though, ultimately I was able to push myself. But I just can’t with this one.
A funny, hot steamy love story full of family drama and a hairless cat. An enjoyable read about how billionaire boss Thomas falls for shy, but full-of-heart Alice.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own opinions.
I loved this book so much that I forgot to go to bed. Every character was well written and lovable. Except George, I keep thinking of Elliot from Broke and Hungry when he pops up.
I bought Anyone but the Billionaire to read about Chase, Mike, and Bell next.
Thank you for making reading fun.
I loved it!! I love writing style, the humor and NOTYES adorable and not so cheesy moments, their chemistry. And by that ending, this slowly simmered into something truly memorable. An absolute 5 stars read for me
This was a bit too slapstick for me. I didn’t find an embarrassing incident with a giant dildo all that funny. There were too many incidents like that in the first part of the book. There was a fun romance of attraction of opposites that I would have preferred without the silliness. In the second half of the book, the book leaves Las Vegas and gets better. There is a heartwarming story about the heroine’s foster niece and how this little girl and the heroine crack open the hard heart of the hero. I would have enjoyed having more of that story and just skipping the Las Vegas plot.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review
What do you get with a destination wedding in Vegas, a bag full of dildos, and a hairless cat named Mike Hunt? A rip-roaring hilarious romp that will keep you in stitches from start to finish.
Thomas Moore is an uptight billionaire who is turning over a new leaf. He’s trying to express his feelings more, mending fences with his brother, Chase, and working on his stalker tendencies with the new marketing team’s visual merchandiser. The new girl is an enigma to a man like him. She’s shy, polite, and kind (except towards him), and he’s on his way to Vegas with her to help plan his brother’s wedding from hell. What could go wrong?
Alice Truman loves her job at Moore’s, but her brooding boss will be the death of her. He’s rude, condescending, and oh, so hot. Determined to prove her worth at work and as a bridesmaid to her new friend Bell, she will show decorum and be responsible for her actions. Yeah, that didn’t happen.
After getting wasted in Las Vegas, Alice and Thomas give in to their attraction and wake up with rings on their fingers and a marriage neither of them wants. Until Alice’s foster sister, Kayla, ditched her little girl, Mary, and Alice had to pick up the pieces. As a last-minute decision, Alice “blackmails” Thomas into staying married to save Mary from the foster care system which Alice knows all too well. Not a great start for the couple, but with a little help from a precocious little girl, and Thomas’s brother’s ugly pretentious hairless cat, Alice begins to see the softer side of the stoic, grumpy man for whom she is falling. After all, Thomas pays attention to only those he cares about.
Thomas and Alice are the quintessential opposites attract scenario. Alice comes from the foster care system. Tough, driven, and fearing abandonment. Thomas comes from wealth and people fear and despise him. Sadly, Thomas has lacked affection from a slimy father now in prison and a mother and brother who he is mending fences with. Alice loves Mary like she is her own and it is such a treat to see Thomas drop his guard to let them both in. He takes everything in stride from a dildo to his face, to a demon cat giving him the mean side-eye. And the best of all is the small precious gifts he gives Alice and Mary because he listens and cares more than he knows. It’s like watching the Grinch’s heart grow three times bigger. Sigh! Plus, the chemistry is off the charts and I love Alice’s take-charge attitude. The dressing room scene is memorable. 😉 Of course, there is always a conflict as Thomas’ bad social skills and Alice’s tragic past get in the way only to be redeemed in a sweet and funny grand gesture that made me feel everything all at once.
The supporting characters in this series are on point! Thomas’ brother, Chase (who you can meet in book 1) is flirty and absolutely hilarious with his “dude” and “T-money” nicknames for his brother, his love for his cat, Mike Hunt (renamed Prince Michael by Mary), and his extravagant Elvis wedding with Bell. Thomas’ mother, Emily, is a blessing for them all as she takes Alice and Mary under her wing and works to repair her relationship with her eldest son. And Mary is the icing on the cake with her total disregard for color choices and her way of wheedling herself into Thomas’ slowly melting heart.
I highly recommend this delightful grumpy/sunshine rom-com that will pull at your heartstrings and tickle your funny bone.
Thank you to Ms. Hudson for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
This was an entertaining book. It was fun, steamy and kept me reading. I enjoyed this book and would read more books by this author.
Never read any books by this author before but this was an enjoyable. I found it a bit slow to start with but as I progressed, it grew on me.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of "Anyone But the Boss". All thoughts and opinions are my own. Book is courtesy of NetGalley and Boldwood Books. Publishing Date is 9/18/2023. It took me a little over 4 hours to read this book. Now, let us discuss!
I did enjoy the book, after about the 35% mark. The first bit was quite difficult because I felt like the characters were giving me whiplash. When Alice sees Thomas in the hotel room, there is no way that this character would say those things. After we get over that hump(both figuratively and literally), I did enjoy it. I was rooting for Thomas throughout the rest of the book. "My wife" makes a few appearances and you know what that does to us! Chase and that freaking cat became really annoying, but fit his personality. I appreciated that the author included the epilogue like Alice wanted.
Overall, not bad, just have a bit to power through. 4/5 stars.
Thomas Moore is CEO of his company and is invited to his brothers wedding in Vegas. The bride is Alice’s boss, and she is also invited along as bridesmaid. When Alice and Thomas wake up together after a drunken night they have to deal with the consequences.
This was good!! The second book in a series of interconnected standalones following billionaire brothers, I loved having all the characters from the first book featured, including the cat Mike Hunt 🐱 I loved the humour, the plot, the characters. I thought the relationship between the two developed so naturally as well!
"What happens when a handsome but stuffy, old-money bachelor with no people skills spends a night in Las Vegas with a shy marketing exec in the midst of a quarter-life crisis?
A black-eye in the shape of a dildo for starters."
This book was full of hilarious moments as straight laced and serious Thomas struggles through hosting his brother's Elvis themed Vegas wedding. From his brother's hairless cat to Alice and the bachelorette toys I was laughing out loud. This shy marketing exec finds a way to crack the stiff shell Thomas hides behind to find a sarcastic, fun, and caring man.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Anyone But the Boss is the second book in the Anyone But You series by Sara Hudson- and I have been waiting for what feels like FOREVER for this one.
I absolutely LOVED Chase and Bell in Anyone But the Billionaire and was so excited at the little hints at the next book being about Thomas and Alice. Their story has so much push and pull to it, had me laughing one moment then hitting me in the feels the next. These two don't seem like they should work- and it took a while to get there but they felt right together. While there is a little bit of an age gap it's really their upbringing that makes them so different. Thomas obviously coming from the wealthy and well known Moore family- he has never wanted for anything, except love and affection from his family. Meanwhile, Alice was a foster kid that never found her way out and still lived with the frugal, waiting for the other shoe to drop mentality.
There is something so satisfying about a fake relationship/marriage romance especially when it's also tied in with a bit of an enemies to lovers feel. Alice and Thomas just completely clash when they're at work as well as when they are forced together in social settings with Thomas' brother Chase marrying Bell who is Alice's best friend. Sara of course infused this story with so much humor- I mean come on, the TSA moment with Mike Hunt and the suitcase of rainbow dildos and all that followed in creating the bachelorette party had me cackling. But the tender and sweet moments as Thomas and Alice play house as Alice works on taking care of her "niece" Mary just melted my heart a bit. I instantly loved Alice's relationship with Mary- how she adored her and looked out for her and her mom as the only family she had- but how maternal and protective she was with Mary both made me happy for how far she had come and sad for the life that Alice had led to that point. Mary was absolutely adorable and it was really her presence that kick started Thomas' transformation from kind of cold and unfeeling to the guy that his employees would smile at and could see himself in a real relationship with Alice and having a family together that included Mary.
I admittedly struggled with Thomas' personality a bit in this book- and of course as he let down his wall, bit by bit, I came to adore him and his acts of caring since he didn't know how to really outwardly show affection. He at times came off as being stuck up and caring too much about how the public was going to perceive his family or their "brand" which rubbed me a bit wrong as I was reading it- but now that I've stepped back and really think about it- all that was really him again just not really knowing how to really show affection. Like I could not get over how he was so obsessed with all the details of Chase and Bell's wedding- a Vegas wedding performed by Elvis was PERFECT for them- but now I can look back on those interactions and see that it was his way of showing his brother and new sister in law how much he cared about them and wanted their happiness. And the way he went all out for that grand gesture... FREAKING SWOON!
Now, I just need to know what is going on with the semi-missing Moore sibling, Liz!
Firstly, thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an arc of this book.
From the word go I thought this book had a nice writing style, automatically ticking a box with the dual pov. At the beginning I found the story a little hard to keep up with, there was just a lot going on but overall this was a cute story with some really funny moments. The fact the cat was called what it was… fair play! All for a grumpy sunshine redemption story and I like the added foster care trope. Very much an instalove book, would have liked a bit more conflict but hey… was a nice easy read (read it in a day) and it’s definitely put this author on my radar. 3.75 stars rounded to 4
This book is amazing. Thomas Moore is the grumpy billionaire who has his last name on one of the most profitable luxury department stores in the USA. So when his future sister-in-law asks him to hire a girl from the shoe department to be head of the media area of their company, Alice Truman. Thomas will do anything to keep his brother happy, including helping him have an Elvis-themed wedding in Las Vegas. Yet when he realised on said trip to Las Vegas, that Alice was the girl of his dreams, he gets drunk, leading to him in a bed with Alice with rings on their left hand. Alice's life is turned upside down when after her friend's wedding, she arrives home to the news that her niece's mother abandoned her. This leads to Alice fostering her niece, but there is one problem. She needs the grumpy billionaires to help!!! Will they develop a friendship and be convincing enough for CPS and everyone else? This book has fake dating, Las Vegas, Dildos, a cat called Mike Hunt and swoon-worthy interactions almost everyone will love.
I really enjoyed this book. The tension was amazing. Both characters are perfect for each other and the blackmailing of each other!!!! Mary was my favourite though.
Thankyou to NetGalley for this great ARC read!!!
Who knew a hairless pussy(cat) would make the best of matchmakers?
In Anyone But The Boss by Sara L. Hudson, a hairless cat high on catnip serves as the catalyst that turns around the lives of a grumpy billionaire and a sunshine marketing executive.
Alice is sure of it. Her boss, Thomas, is a grumpy man whom she avoids at all costs. Until her best friend and his brother are getting married in Vegas. Neither of them expected their lives to uproot and change forever in the course of one drunken night. Add in a cute little girl and there's a recipe for love.
I think the characters of this novel were done well. Alice and Thomas both grew up without unconditional love from their parents. Thomas deals with the fallout of his father, and Alice deals with her 'sister's' disappearance. Both have their own goals and I noticed myself rooting for them to get where they needed to be. I like how over the course of the story Thomas changed from a stoic man to a man building Legos in his 'play clothes' and how Alice finally started to stand up for herself. And even better, they needed each other to be able to grow in the way they did.
What else can you want from a romance novel? Okay, steam. Which there was plenty of.
While I enjoyed (thoroughly) the story in the end, I felt the beginning of the story was a little slow for my liking. Maybe this has something to do with the somewhat longer sentences, making it harder for me to focus. I didn't have any problems with this after the 30% mark.
Overall, I really liked this story and its characters (especially the hairless pussy(cat)).
Read if you like:
Grumpy/Sunshine, workplace romances, cute little girls, family scheming, a marriage of convenience, interfering cats, and awkward situations with sex toys in the spotlight.
Thank you so much Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this Arc. This book was a difficult read for me. I don't necessarily think it was the way the book was written but I don't particularly like extremely arrogant main characters. Thomas' attitude towards/regarding Alice from the beginning was very off-putting. It's actually an ick for me. It makes the rest of their story unrealistic for me. I also felt like from the beginning we were bombarded with multiple side characters with little development of those characters. All in all, this book was just not for me.
