I missed reading a bl manga and this made me wantimg to read more of this manga genre.
The characters were so cute mostly Kaido when in appearance seems cold and mysterious when at the end and inside he's such a cutie and the drawimgs do justice to make him so sweet. He's vero appassionate toward his bobbies and rhis male him a good character.
The other character, Honda, the main one made me laufgh sometimes for his little sadistic side even if when he started the conflict and I wasn't really happy but I was glad that it was solved, more or less, quickly.
I wouldn't mind countinuing this serie because i want to see more ofvtheir story and mostly the interaction between them, that's very funny.
And not less important Inrealy enjoyed the art style
It's a good volumes for people who want a simple and cute manga with a bit of serious parta.I.

Thanks NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for this arc!

I thought this was ok. I didn't really like how mean Honda was when he was jealous, I understand he was confused with how intense his feelings were, but all the things he blabbed about Kaido after specifically saying he wouldn't, idk. I get having motor mouth when you're anxious, but I just felt so bad for Kaido 😅 It didn't matter tho because they got together in the end, which is good for them. I probably won't read more of this series though, it just kind of fell flat for me

I was expecting this to be a decent BL to read side it got a print release, but unfortunately it's just a very lighthearted school life story of a guy who has a crush but doesn't realize it & get jealous when people start noticing his crush and another guy who also isn't super aware of his feelings too. I thought it was cute, but if I was buying this, I would be annoyed that I could've spent my money on another BL series since the story was very basic beyond the fact that the love interest is a part time Sentai ranger actor.

Lettering and translation is good. However, I was reading the PDF on Books app on my iPad Air and several pages were too high resolution at the end with the other series previews and would not load or load very slowly. In addition, whoever did the PDF export from InDesign needed to check the export quality: many pages in the PDF review copy at least reading on my iPad had very grainy low quality resolution (page 32, 35, 42, 47, 54, 59, 63, 73, 79, 80, 90, 91, 96, 98, 99, and more). There are minor QC issues too like part of the next page peeking out (p17, 79, 105) and only using 1 font for the dialogue which is very unusual.

Overall, this is slightly below average BL unless you like school romances and crushes. ⭐️⭐️

Thank you to Kodansha and Netgalley for giving me a copy in exchange for an honest review.

The storyline has good foundations, but I honestly felt the speed in which things occurred was a bit rushed. If this was a one-off, I could kind of see it. I liked the main characters but there was very little development outside of them at all. A couple other friends pop up but they are simply there to move plot once with no other real significance other than to lend to the main character's jealousy. The secondary characters haven't the chance to allow depth to form around the main characters or their personalities.
Otherwise, it's a super cute love story and addresses some very real insecurities people have when they're inexperienced with relationships and how to navigate them.

It started off promising but then the romance felt rushed and sudden. Honda’s possessiveness and jealousy really left a sour taste in my mouth.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC via NetGalley!.

It starts with Honda befriending Kaido, who everyone seems to be scared of because of the rumors. Honda encourages Kaido to chase his dreams, and befriend other people. But then out of jealous tries embarrasses Kaido in front of their classmates. I was upset at that scene because it was such a giant betrayal of trust. It was a bit disappointing that Kaido forgave Honda so easily. But it makes sense, because Kaido himself has been crushing on Honda for a while. There's not a lot of angst and the problem resolves itself rather quickly.

Although the pacing of the story was a bit fast (especially the conflict resolution), the artwork is well drawn !
I really enjoyed reading Super Morning Star volume 1 and can't wait for volume 2.

Super Morning Star 1 is a cute story. It has a simple premise but executes it well. Honda finds out that he's apparently into people who have a dream and are really passionate about it, and finds himself feeling a certain way when other people start getting friendly with supposed tough guy Kaido. Thankfully Honda gets his act together and things get resolved by the end of the first volume, relationship-wise. There will be no guilt if you only give the first volume as a gift (even if it's for yourself). The author does well by dropping bonus scenes at the end that make us want a second volume. (I received a free ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.)

Call it a “me” thing because I got to act 3, I believe, and enjoyed it, but when Honda does a certain something, to me, it’s unforgivable and I just up and quit and that point because I just couldn’t.

The artistry is gorgeous. The plot up until act 3 was pretty good. A few times it was hard to figure out who was saying what, but I enjoyed it.

But Honda did a no-no. 3 stars because it’s okay, but not after act 3.

Interesting budding romance between two high schoolers: Kaido, a tough-looking but soft-hearted guy who hides a part-time job as a sentai actor, and Honda, an awkward sentai fan who doesn't seem to understand the feelings he has for Kaido. A little overly dramatic but a decent BL story. 3 stars.

Thank you, Kodansha Comics and NetGalley, for providing an eARC of this book. Opinions expressed here are solely my own.

Overall I really enjoyed reading this manga. The characters were really cute at times and it wrapped up nicely at the end. I will say though the artwork to me felt a bit messy and the pacing of the story felt a bit rushed. Also Honda's actions towards Kaito seemed pretty harsh regardless of why he said it. It really hurt the characters likeability a bit. Regardless of that I still really enjoyed reading the story because of their cute moments and the nice ending.

A cute series with expressive and blushy characters. I had to stop reading mid way through when the main character started doing exactly what he said he wouldn't do, it was too much for me. I didn't know much about sentai going into the series so it's always fun to learn more! I do wish we got to actually see Kaidou perform and see more of the sentai side of it, perhaps in future volumes. It wasn't especially stand out for me but a nice read.

This was a cute story! This story largely deals with one of the main characters struggling to identify and handle their feelings of jealousy. This was interesting because stories in the genre just have the two main characters instantly falling in love and almost instantly getting into a relationship. This story actually has them work things out, just like regular people. The premise behind one of the characters was fairly interesting, but you only learn the bare minimum and that's about it. Also, this says it's volume one, so I assume it's meant to be a series. But this read like a stand-alone novel, and the ending doesn't really leave it open to be continued. If the epilogue isn't really an epilogue and is meant to be the starting arc of another volume, it was a bit sloppily done. By that I mean they jumped past a lot of plot to get to that point at the end of the novel. This story was fairly interesting and I found the couple and their dynamic really cute, but I'm not really interested enough to read this as a series. Also, there is no spice explicitly shown, except for a single panel. The one or two mentions of spice are largely just alluded to, and never really shown. (This isn't a negative by the way, just a heads up to people who expect spice from this kind of manga.)

Completely smitten by the easily flushed face of the Kaido, how completely misunderstood he is by his peers and how sweet and driven he is, as his love interest on the other hand? Honda, his classmate, the one who discovered Kaido’s secret, his insecurities and his charm, has a ways to go in the handling of love.

This was a cute story, but be warned, this is Honda & Kaido’s first blush of love, and though they appear to be older teens, they’re clearly very inexperienced with the flood of emotions and unfamiliar urges and jealousies that can come along with it. Nevertheless this was a fun time!

Very excited for volume 2 👀

What makes someone a hero? Honda's never really thought much about that, even though his younger sibling (and his mom) are into super sentai shows on TV. In fact, he's a pretty typical dismissive teenager about “kiddy” stuff, and he doesn't want to do a part-time job at a live performance for one. Imagine his shock when the scariest kid at school, Kaido, turns out to be the suit actor for The Yellow Ranger! As set-ups for romance manga go, it's a pretty good one because while it isn't really about heroes and sentai, it does force Honda to think about himself, his attitude, and what he wants in life, and that all makes Super Morning Star's first volume a lot more interesting than it might otherwise have been.

Underneath the various surface trappings, this book is mostly about Honda growing up. He's so down on sentai that he doesn't even realize that the main character actors and the guys in the suits are different people, but when he sees how much Kaido loves being a suit actor, he's forced to rethink. Kaido is nothing like any of the rumors say, and he's also incredibly talented, both traits that draw Honda to him. But when other people begin to be friends with Kaido, Honda starts acting out in ways he knows are wrong. One of the strongest scenes in the book is when Honda is saying all sorts of horrible things in class but has dissociated: his conscious mind is busy screaming at him from inside his skull, but his mouth just keeps saying awful words. He wants to stop, but he physically can't, and if you've ever dissociated, that's what it can feel like. Immediately after he does this, Honda has a sort of emotional collapse where he tries to sort through why he did what he did. In another notable moment, his friends are supportive and encourage him to recognize that he was jealous because he's in love with Kaido. I fully admit that I love seeing the people around LGBTQIA+ characters warmly support them because that wasn't the norm for so long, and for Honda, it's less an issue that he's in love with another boy and more that he's in love at all. It just didn't occur to him.

Kaido, on the other hand, is aware of his feelings, as we see in several of the between-chapters four-panel comics. This is a nice way to confirm things while still allowing the story to proceed smoothly, and when we reach the denouement, it's with the understanding that if Honda can get the words out, everything will be okay. Since I at least read romance for the happy endings (or happy to be continued), this is very reassuring, and it also, as a technique, allows the story to focus primarily on Honda while still acknowledging Kaido's feelings. The art isn't beautiful, but the story is very well done, and Kodansha's translation notes are helpful if you're not up on your sentai lingo. BL fans definitely want to check this out.

This was so adorable dogs follow the average. High school guy gets miss interpreted as a punk and as part of a gang bur is secretly not. He’s actually an actor for the cast and he knows how to do a lot of physical attributes like karate and kicks and punches which is quite fun and it’s also about his classmate who is a little scared of him but likes him getting to know him, and finding out he is actually shy and relatable, and they start of this romance between them where they are finding a middle ground of who like to, and it’s about them being shy and fun each other. I do really really like this I would highly recommend and I hope he gets better in another volume. Hopefully coming soon.

It was fun to give this a read as I love romance and the premise seemed interesting.

It's a cute story with all the blushing but I think the story can have more depth to pull in readers more. However, as a lighter read, I think this would be just fine!

Kaido has a secret part time job that he doesn't want anyone to know about. When he unexpectedly runs into his classmate Honda while he's working, the two of them start to become friends. I thought this was pretty cute, but there were some things I wasn't too crazy about. I didn't really like how Honda said some pretty mean stuff to Kaido when he started socializing with some of their other classmates more. I also felt like Honda's confession to Kaido happened too soon. Overall, I enjoyed it and I'm interested to see what happens in the next volume.

A cute romcom manga, Super Morning Star had a lot of fascinating tropes and a good premise. Kaido and Honda were basically grumpy and sunshine, and Honda's enthusiasm for Kaido's passion was really nice, especially since he managed to give Kaido more confidence. However, I wasn't a fan of the art style. It felt busy and I often struggled to keep up with what was happening. Honda also did something horrible and while he redeemed himself, I felt more grovelling was required. Overall a nice, quick read.

Super Morning Star by Kara Aomiya is an unexpected high school romance. Honda is a jokester having fun with his friends. A typical unobservant rambunctious teen whose first reaction is to joke not have empathy. When Honda is volunteered to help out at a kids show featuring a live action kids play something like Power Rangers, he recognizes one of the costumed stunt performers as a classmate.
This classmate, Kaido, is gossiped about, Honda’s friends think he is a street punk who hangs out with yakuza, Japanese mobsters. Kaido is actually a huge nerd for costumed super hero kids shows. He has been training since he was a kid to be an action star. Will Honda make fun of him and out him to the class or will they become friends? Can Kaido keep his other big secret from Honda, that he has a huge crush on him?

A super cute teen romance that does escalate quickly, there is no slow burn here. Fans of BL will adore this one.
