This was super cute!! I loved both MC and I cannot wait to buy a physical copy to reread before the next volume! Kaido was such a cutie and I just wanna punch his cheeks! I feel like him and Honda matched so well.

Awwwwww! I love all the blushing, especially how easily Kaido does. At one point Honda does get some crazy looks after seeing a certain expression from Kaido and does seem like he will jump in right there (he doesn't). I do like that we get to see Honda really regret hurting Kaido and he does have some good friends for them to help him realize his feelings. It does look like later on Honda is going to treat Kaido so sweetly and support his dream.

There's no spicy scenes besides maybe the quick flashback to their night in the bonus. I will admit for some reason when I started this and saw the MC in his costume, I thought it was going to have some kind of superhero or the costume/spandex kink happening. Looks like there are three volumes scheduled with tentative release dates... yes I was already looking to see when more volumes will be releasing haha.

It has an older feeling art style to it, but works for this. There was a small name mix up I think on 121 where they say he said all the mean things to Honda when it should have been Kaido.

Kaido is misunderstood and his classmates believe he is a thug. However, Honda discovers Kaido works part-time as a suit actor. Honda learns a bit more about him and starts to see why there were rumors about Kaido. However, after giving Kaido a push to talk with other classmates he starts to get jealous to the point he exposes stuff Kaido only talked to him about and saying it was embarrassing (after saying how cool he was before). Will Honda realize why he was jealous?

This was a cute story about two sentai nerds falling for each other! The plot was basic, but sweet. I liked seeing these two interact. The spice level in this title is more blink and you'll miss it, so if you were looking for it. it's more Sir Not Appearing in this Title. This is just a nice, breezy little BL story, and sometimes that's all it needs to be!

Honda accidentally finds his classmate Kaido is working as a Power Ranger-esque (sentai/tokusatsu) guy, but doesn't Kaido have the rep at school for being super unapproachable and maybe he's in a gang???

Actually Kaido is shy and happy that a classmate is taking the time to talk to him/compliment him(/take him out for parfait) but at school maybe that new attention is too much to handle? Whatever will they do!

Honestly my UNPOP OP is that I wish that Super Morning Star (1?? There's more? It felt like a standalone!) had leaned way more into the sorta older style of BL, the kind that content warnings are appropriate for, because it sure FELT like it was going to go into that direction a lot so... may as well have? The bonus chapter was nice but it was probably surprising to anyone who got this mostly PG 'possessive friend x gap moe athlete' and then flash forward into the future where the NSFW lives.

I'll probably look into volume 2 when it comes out in December because I'm curious where it's going from here with a time skip epilogue/bonus already built into volume 1.

Thank you Net galley for sending me this book to review.
This was such a cute BL manga and I loved everything about it . With the beautiful art style and loveable characters I can't wait to read the second volume..

This was cute! The pacing was off.. felt like the author was trying to fit everything into one volume…the fight/ drama made me mad 😭 but still fun and short read

I really enjoyed this manga and read it all in one sitting. Very lovable characters and an enjoyable plot!

Honda and Kaido go to the same school together, there are tones of rumours circulating around that Kaido isn't a nice guy and has relations with the Yakuza, but after stumbling upon one another at a venue gig, Haido discovers that Kaido is actually a really nice guy and immediately develops a crush.

Kaido is a sweetheart but Haido definitely needs to work on his jealousy issues haha, but all around this story was very sweet and I like both of the main characters, I can't wait to read the next volumes!

tl;dr
If you like your romance with a side of messy high school feelings, this one's for you.

Thoughts
I love a "secret identity" plot, and I went into this expecting all sorts of slice of life hijinks with a side of romcom goodness. Turns out, it's almost all romance, and very few hijinks. It's also extremely messy with emotions. Honda hasn't yet realized he likes guys, and this manifests itself in some incredibly hurtful ways. Thankfully his friends are actually pretty great, and they call him out on it. But wow! That's not an attractive side of you, man. Kaido on the other hand is very sweet and should be protected at all costs. No complaints here. The art is nice, with delicate lines and some good tones. Honda's friends are little bit indistinct in their designs, but both the leads stand out and are very attractive.

I was kindly approved for an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

Oh my gosh, this was absolutely adorable! This was a cute, heart-warming, high school love story that had be squealing with how adorable it was. It reminded me a lot of Heartstopper & wouldn't be surprised if it was inspired by it at all. I loved it!

If I had one criticism, it'd be that the pacing was a bit off. It took me a while to get into it & the ending felt a bit rushed. I also didn't particularly enjoy the conflict; it made sense but wasn't the most enjoyable &, again, felt rushed. I feel the conflict had a bit of a detrimental effect to the character & the relationship - quite immature & childish.

Overall, a really cute & enjoyable read. I'd definitely recommend to others!

I received an ARC from Net Galley

I enjoyed this and read it all in one day! I really like the art style, and the mangaka draws some great expressions.

The relationship dynamic is really interesting, as Kaido is VERY shy, and his shyness comes off as hostile delinquent behaviour, while Honda is outgoing, has no filter, and is kind of mean. Honda's humour involves making fun of stuff Kaido does, and he also realises he has a thing for seeing Kaido be embarrassed. Honda encourages Kaido to try and talk more to people instead of keeping to himself, but when Kaido does this and starts getting popular, Honda gets incredibly jealous and lashes out at Kaido by telling a secret of his to all their classmates.

So, yeah, this is one of those sweet but toxic kind of romances - which isn't me trying to put anyone off this story! If you're in the mood for a little jealousy, and a light amount of dacryphilia and humiliation kink, this is for you! (Though note the story is non-explicit but does reference the characters masturbating in the main story, and having sex in the bonus without anything too graphic being shown.)

This is part of a series but this first volume works very well as a stand-alone, with a bonus chapter of the characters moving in together when they go to college.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for this e-arc!

I went into this series being unsure what I was going to get. The premise recommends this series for fans of Sasaki and Miyano and Hitorijime My Hero which this definitely gave the vibe of both. So far, the vibe of this series is fluffy and romantic while focusing on teenage problems. I had a fun time reading this and felt it wrapped up nicely in this first volume. Upon further research, I found out there are more volumes so I wonder how the story will progress from here. Its worth checking out if you are a fan of the aforementioned properties or sentai content.

So I ended up really enjoying this manga, but boy was it a ride to get there. Kaido the absolute most sweetest cinnamon roll despite having a tough delinquent appearance. His classmate Honda is enamoured at first, but really makes a sharp turn to being a total jerk for a good portion of the story. I loved Kaido’s character so much that I did not want him to be so hurt - even if it was worth it in the end.

For the first part of their relationship, there are some soft moments, but when Honda gets confused with his feelings, Honda goes hard into jerk mode, almost to the point of no-redemption - bullying Kaido and calling romantic feelings for guys gross. BUT [and it’s a very important but] he does come to his senses within this first volume and realizes what an absolute A-Hole he’s been to Kaido [like next level A-Hole]. Honda truly realizes how far he’s gone, and he genuinely regrets his actions and words. And, I think Honda gets to the point where he mostly redeems himself. Still, Kaido deserves all the soft love in the world, so I would like to see Honda grovel some more, so hopefully we see that in future volumes!

Also the art really helps sell this story of intense emotions - especially when it comes to facial expressions - I’ll definitely look for more from this Mangaka. I just want the cinnamon rolls to have a happy ending please!

Super Morning Star is a cute bl manga with that school romance vibe like Sasaki and Miyano or My Love Mix-Up.
When Honda finds out Kaido, his suspected delinquent classmate is performing in a live Sentai superhero show he is intrigued by this guy he barely knows. The two start hanging out and Honda admires Kaido's devotion to his craft and maybe starts to think he's cute. But as Kaido comes out of his shell at school and becomes more popular, Honda finds himself feeling things he can't explain like jealously.
This was a fun story of crushes and confusing feelings. It was adorable to watch Honda bumbling around, not understanding his feelings. But you also feel for Kaido and don't want to see him get hurt. I enjoyed the ending but thought it could have been a little longer. I would have liked to see more of the boys together in the end. But I do appreciate the epilogue.
I also have to say that the art feels a little too sketchy at times and had me wondering if it was something wrong with my digital copy. But other then that I enjoyed the story and would probably buy a physical copy.

Thank you to Netgally and Kodansha for the ARC. I will post more reviews closer to publishing day.

Super Morning Star 1 is a delight and face-paced BL by Kara Aomiya. I admit I was worried because the description gave Hitorijime My Hero and Sasaki and Miyano as references and I think I better understand why and I'm thankful it didn't fall in with all the tropes I didn't like in Hitorijime My Hero.

This is a High School Romance, with a Fun-loving ML and potential scary delinquent, they bump into each other out of school, and you learn he's just a softy and he's leading a second life as the star of a sentai superhero live show. As they get to know each other, it is full of wholesome moments until our Fun-loving ML starts fighting some unknown emotions leading to hurting the 2nd ML sentai actor.

Will they make up? Will the 1st ML untangle his emotions in time in this sweet BL?

The Art style does give Hitorijime My Hero but the plot feels more wholesome like Sasaki and Miyano and I think this plot stands on its own in a beautiful way. I do think this one is a little bit faster-paced. ALSO! While 90% of this is super wholesome at least in Vol. 1 the bonus chapter in the back is not.

It’s so endearing and i feel like it can be suitable read for someone that are interested to know more about their sexual orientation. It’s light and quick read.

Thank you Netgalley, Author and Publishers for this E-ARC

I totally went into this one blind and oh wow it was so cute!

I loved the two mains dynamic and the crushing moment when the jealousy got to be too much just crushed me but the resolution was worth the pain.

The story is pretty simple. Kaido is the “scary” kid at school and everyone is afraid of him until Honda discovers he works part time as a “hero” at superhero shows god kids. He finds himself just soaking up Kaido’s attention until everyone at school starts to like him to so he ends up hurting him terribly out of jealousy and the resolution to him realizing his feelings and the happy ending was so good!

It’s not overly mature - though there are mature themes and allusions there’s no actual Yaoi moments beyond kissing and some suggestive frames.

Really worth the read!

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for letting me read this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
