This was so cute at the start but the ending was extremely rushed. The fact that our MC decided to spill Kaido’s secret purely out jealousy and wanting Kaido to himself just felt unnecessary and then to rush forgiveness made the manga mediocre. The first 1/3 was really good and the chemistry between the characters was so flipping cute!! But the rest just felt half done and rushed. Its a cute read for sure but nothing extraordinary.

A very cute 3.5 that I'm rounding down for craft things (paneling/flow, identifying dialogue, etc). It feels completed, which I can always appreciate for a manga - a short and sweet romance is always a welcome breath of fresh air.

It's trying to do a lot, though - between balancing the rumors about Kaido with his tokusatsu job and dream, Honda trying to draw him out of his shell and then getting jealous about the result, while the first chapter feels like a perfect introduction to the two, the rest feels a little like being jerked around from scene to scene and emotion to emotion as they try to figure things out. I did really appreciate Honda's arc of recognizing that he really liked Kaido but had intentionally hurt him in a pique of jealousy and that he needed to apologize for it, as well as Honda's friends for calling out his crush /instantly/ (and subsequently Honda for having 0.2 seconds of "I'm not gay...no, pretty sure I love him"). Overall, it's just really cute and I was grinning through a lot of it.

I do also love when I can all but pinpoint down when something was written (if it's not recent). Thank you to Kodansha and NetGalley for the ARC

Very cute manga. Honestly I read this so fast and I wanted more. The way I screamed cause Honda is so clueless about his crush.

I thought this was pretty cute. The art style isn't exactly my favorite, it's a little on the rough side, but it was still cute. I'm a fan of stories where the characters personalities end up being the opposite of how they appear and Kaido is a perfect example of that. His and Honda's relationship, thought kinda rushed at the end, feels like a natural progression and lacks most of the toxicity that is prevalent in a lot of BL. I look forward to the future volumes coming out.

Review to come October 9th/10th on my blog and other places.

I received this book from the publisher/Netgalley in exchange of an honest review!

I was very eager to see if this BL from Kodansha would be better or not than most BL. Haha, it is just a shame that BL is still so iffy these days. Sometimes you can get some superduper cute ones with all the consent and such, but there are just way too much BL without consent and all the bad stuff. So I was a bit worried, but I can tell you, this was quite cute. Well, OK, I stil had issues, but they are minor in comparison to things like rape.

Because right from the bat? I just wanted these two to get together and kiss, haha. They have a high high shippability. Often in manga or anime I need to really learn the characters, get to know them, see if they click, but in this one? There were just sparks and hearts radiating around them a lot. Even before they understood their feelings. It was so fun and I loved it.

We get to follow two characters. Kaido, who looks like a yakuza and even has his hair bleached blonde, but who is actually a real sweetpea and so adorable. I loved his reactions to so many things, he got really adorable and blushes a lot! I just love the trope of bad boy looks but is actually very sweet and studious. And I also loved that he already found a path he wanted to walk, he wants to become an actor and trains hard to be one. At the point in the manga he is working at one of those Sentai shows for kids. You know, dressing up as a ranger, doing cool stunts, and that stuff. It was just so fitting with him and I loved how dedicated he was.

Then there is Honda, a classmate of Kaido. He is normally a bit stand-offish when we see him first, but then he is suddenly overwhelmed by all the feels for a guy. And he was also my main issue. I get that he is confused about his sexuality/his feelings for Kaido, but I just HATE it when guys get possessive and toxic, because he really did do some dick moves in this one that had me wanting to punch him so badly and really made me dislike him. Thankfully, he does get better and he really does change to be kinder, but I do worry about his possessive/jealousy trait and I hope that given the epilogue he has stopped doing it and just trusts his feelings and Kaido.

I loved Honda's friends though! Eventually they talk to him and he rants about Kaido and all Honda said about him, and they tell him the truth. He is in love with Kaido and should just go for it. Yup, no homophobic stuff here, just two friends who want their friend to get some guts and get confessing. Haha. It was so sweet how in later parts they were just always there in the background cheering for their friend.

Oh, and I just adore it when a book adds an epilogue and this one just made me happy! I won't spoil anything, but I am sure everyone will be happy with it!

The art was also a lot of fun, I really like the style!

All in all? This was a fun manga, very cute, with tons of shippability (not a word, well it is now) and I am happy that I found it on Netgalley! Recommended.

I loved this book. It was so fun and sweet seeing them discovering and processing the emotions of love.
The characters are fantastic, Kaido has a contrasting personality with his appearance, which I love, and on top of that, he gives everything for his dream! And Honda is super social, but possessive about what he wants. It was so cute.
I read the book in one sitting, so you can see how much I enjoyed the story and liked the characters and their relationship that grows throughout the pages.

The drawings are beautiful and adapt perfectly to the story and characters.

It was a book that really surprised me. I loved.
Waiting for the second volume.

3 and a half stars rounded down. This was very cute! Honda frustrated me and it felt rushed to the point I thought some pages were left out, but I had fun reading it. Kaido is such a sweetie and the art was adorable. It's definitely not a new favorite, but it was worth the read.

I really like the idea of this story, but after the first two chapters, it was less fun for me. Kaido works a part time job as a sentai actor, but tries to keep it hidden until one of his classmates, Honda, finds out while volunteering at the same event. The two quickly become friends, eventually falling in love. The issue for me was after they become friends, and Kaido becomes more popular at school, Honda's character almost seems to change completely, going from friendly and supportive to jealous. Which, causes unnecessary tension and leads to a fight that came out of nowhere and did not fit the tone of the first few chapters. Especially in such a short series, this really didn't make much narrative sense to me. I was also disappointed that Kaido being a suit actor didn't feature all that much, he's only in suit once and it's only mentioned in passing when the focus shifts to the romance. I think there are more volumes in the series, but with how things tied up in this one, I don't see why there is when there could've been less of a rush with the story if that is the case.

Mm, I didn’t like this one, unfortunately. I was hoping the tokusatsu/superhero backdrop would give a warm glow to this manga, but there was little charm in the story overall, sadly. The narration is chaotic, too much stuttering and yelling and not enough of conveying the mood - that makes it hard to connect with protagonists’ emotions. The artstyle was rather generic and panelling confusing to follow, not great at building atmosphere.

Thanks for the arc to the publisher and Netgalley. All opinions my own.

”Super Morning Star” by Kara Aomiya had an interesting synopsis, however, the story ended up making me feel disappointed.

The feeling I have after reading this is that the whole story feels forced. The relationship and dynamic between the characters feel forced, and I often thought to myself ”Why are they laughing for no reason?”.
The story is choppy and doesn't really explore anything, meaning that everything that happens leaves a feeling of being forced for the sake of the plot. I would have loved to learn the characters better to know, but they never get a chance to tell the story themself.

I had no sympathy with Honda who acts like a scumbag toward Kaido.
I really disliked how we are supposed to hear Kaido feel regret because he reacts to Honda saying stupid and hurtful things – like he's the one in the wrong. HE WAS RIGHT TO FEEL BETRAYED!

I really wanted to love this story. The premise about a main character being misunderstood in school vs. being a superhero on stage made me want to read this. However, I don't feel that the premise was explored nor that it really mattered in the story.

Also as a side note...
I get that this is a review copy, and the quality of the pages doesn't reflect on the final product, but the quality changes from page to page. At times the whiteness was overwhelming, so the drawings lost it's edges and the tone disappeared. I am used to the quality of review ebooks being consistent. I'm just mentioning this in case the publisher is not aware.

I really liked the first two chapters, but Honda really made me mad. The whole conflict was infuriating. They definitely act younger than 18. Kaido deserves better. But it isn't horrible and besides from the main conflict, I thought they were super cute together.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

This was sooo cute! I loved it! A lonely boy misunderstood as a delinquent meets his classmate at his secret part time job. Instead of making fun of him, they bond over his job and become friends. Honda starts feeling jealous when Kaido begins to be more social with everyone at school. What could it mean? The only thing I didn’t like was Honda being a big dummy towards Kaido but he figures himself out quickly at least. I hope more gets translated soon!

3.5 🌟
Completed and it's only 1 volume! The ml dresses up as superhero for work and the mc figures that out but there are rumors about the ml that he is part of a gang even though he's not. There is instant love ish trope with this one but it was cute! There are some parts that I was like: why did you do this (crying face emoji). The manga itself is fast paced has a school life + insta love + ml falls first and mc falls harder trope! Releasing on 10/10/23! Thank you Kodansha Comics and netgalley

This is a cute slice-of-life High School set BL. The characters are fun and this first volume is pretty fast paced. It will be interested to see where the rest of the series goes and if we get some extra content on the side couple that was hinted at as well.

Average start to a BL manga. Didn't do much to keep me interested I most likely will drop this series. Just two dudes bumbling their way into a romance.
