It’s great to see that we’re getting more and more manga about deaf or hard of hearing characters.
The problems of Oikawa and the reason why she preferred to stay on her own and not try to make friends are very real and relatable. It really highlighted how hard it can be as a disabled person to approach other people. Especially her reason for not wanting to have more than one friend because it’s hard to follow conversations between multiple people is highly relatable and something I struggle with too but it’s so endearing to watch her open up and people actively trying to include her.

If you enjoy A Sign of Affection you will probably like this as well. I can’t wait to read more in future volumes.
Also did I spy some gay vibes? 🤭

The Moon on a Rainy Night is a sweet friends to lovers GL story !

The story starts off with Saki colliding into girl, Kanon, who then offers her a bandage for her wound. Saki hopes that the two of them might attend the same school since Kanon looks to be around her age. Saki discovers that Kanon does, in fact, attend her school. They're even in the same class. The teacher announces that Kanon is hard of hearing.

I liked that Kanon has a strong personality despite having a disability. Kanon says it clearly that she doesn't need her classmates to look out for her. The characters are distinct and likeable. The art is clean and beautifully drawn as well.

Overall, it's a very enjoyable story. I would recommend it to readers who like "A Silent Voice" or want to read a wholesome GL story.

Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the opportunity to read this ARC !

The Moon on a Rainy Night continues the interesting tread of having a secondary lead/ possible love interest character be hard of hearing. Cool! More disability representation in manga with sources in the back, showing that the author did their research! In this story, Kanon uses hearing aides, but she doesn't sign. This story looks to be shaping into a sweet and angsty GL between the prickly loner (with good reason ) and her classmate with a budding crush and I'm here for it.

4.5/5 stars rounded up!

This was a cute story, I'm really loving seeing the disability rep in manga now that's both thoughtful and informative! I'm looking forward to the next volume and to see how these two girls' romance unfolds :3

This comic was so adorable, and I loved how the author made one of the MC hard of hearing. We need to learn how to be helpful to others with disabilities. The art was clean and beautiful. You were really rooting for the characters toward the end to get together. I would like to see more of this series!

Thanks Netgalley and publisher for sharing me Volume 1. I really like the fact we have one of the leads as someone who is deaf and my god the art is pretty whenever we get a closeup of the girls. Hate the sister tho, she's such a annoying wimp tho 😡😡😡😡

Cute GL about a highschooler who is partially deaf and a girl who wants to get to know said girl despite her hostile aura. The build up of their friendship is nice and i'll definitely read second volume to witness their eventual romance.

"The moon on a rainy night. Ever heard of that? [...] It's a metaphor for something that's there, but hidden. Like when you can't see the moon through the rain."

Our main character, Saki, collides on a lonely street with a mysterious girl who unexpectantly turns out to be her classmate at high school.

Kanon Oikawa, the mysterious and gorgeous girl, is hard of hearingeich reminded me of A Silent Voice and thought that the manga would maybe touch similar topics. But The Moon on a Rainy Night is a more lighthearted slice of life manga, perfect to read when wanting to disconnect of the world.

Although Kanon seems like a cold person, we soon discover we couldn't be more wrong. She doesn't like the interact quth people because of her past experiences and even though she resists Saki's friendlyness at first, they end up becoming friends.

This is a lovely quick read and a great start to the series. I really loved the illustrations in the panels of the manga. The set up is done fantasticly
Saki, a piano student, bumps across Kanon on a rainy night and is left with a lot of doubts by this encounter. Suki learns Kanon, who has hearing loss, is in her class on the first day of school. Suki is determined to get to know Kanon and discovers various ways to make accommodations for her condition. The two females gradually become more intimate as they discover more real things about one another.

The Moon on a Rainy Night 1 is a lovely manga that does a great job setting up the characters in this series. Saki, a piano student, runs into Kanon on a rainy night, this encounter leaving her with many questions. On her first day of school, Suki discovers Kanon is in her class, and is hard of hearing. Suki is determined to befriend Kanon and learns different ways of accommodating her disability. The two girls slowly grow closer while learning more about each other in a very authentic way. This manga taught me things about Japanese deaf culture and I had a great time reading it, and I plan to seek out further volumes.

Usually I’m not really into yuri manga but this specific one did hit really well. Not only was it like Friends to lovers. It was strangers to friends first, especially when there is a block in the way of miscommunication because one of the main female leads is deaf and a spot them trying to find a middle ground and translate to each other in each of the languages and trying to communicate and find our passion with each other, which I think was actually really cool and it was well done, especially when the word mentions to ASL and side language and how not all people who are deaf you sign language I think that was really important message to put out that people

4.5 stars for a very beautiful girl's love manga!

The art for this one is incredibly pleasing and the pacing was perfect. For a first volume we got so much story and really got a strong sense of the two MC personalities. I think there is a ton of room to grow with this storyline and these two with possible side couples coming in to play as well.

I loved the representation in this one, it felt like the author has really done their research and the topics touched on were done so respectfully and really brought more depth to the characters. Ill absolutely be looking forward to volume 2!

A super sweet love story that also tells the story of a hard of hearing teenager. The representation is so important and the portrayal of a budding romance between two female friends without it being sexualized is very refreshing.

Some of the ways disability was handled and talked about in this made me uncomfortable as a disabled person. The romance seemed promising for a slow burn. I don’t think I will be continuing with this series.

This is the first volume (no idea how many there will be) of a girls love series. Therefore it's very introductory, of course. We get to know Saki, a girl who bumps into Kanon just before school starts again and is impressed by the girl's beauty. At school, Saki finds herself in the same class as Kanon and finds out that she is deaf. At first Kanon repels Saki's attempts at starting a friendship, but eventually they start to form a close bond.

I really liked this volume. The story is cute and goes deeper than usual, showing Kanon's struggles as she navigates life with a disability most people don't understand. It's nice to see Saki try to get into Kanon's world and learn about her disability, sign language and more in order to communicate better. The artwork is beautiful. In the end I was rooting for the girls and hoping their friendship can soon evolve into something more. Nice read, highly recommended for those who appreciate GL stories.

I absolutely loved and adored this graphic novel.

I found it to be really cute.

I love that sign language is involved, and also the power of a new friendship.

I can’t wait for volume 2!

A sapphic manga?? That's really all I needed to know before diving into this. This adorable manga had me smiling and eagerly reading from one panel to the next.

For a starting manga, this really started well. Kanon and Saki were well developed as was their relationship. It feels like it's going to be a slow burn. Their friendship is the main focus right now as they are learning about one another and breaking each other out of their shells.

I've enjoyed the light tension between them that was focusing more on their friendship. Saki is so bubbly and eager to get to know Kanon. She's pushing herself to learn more about deaf/HoH culture and ways that she can make Kanon more comfortable and things a fraction easier for her. It was lovely to see Saki break Kanon out of her shell and the bond they began to form.

The romantic tension is there though. There are a number of panels that are hinting at a romance between them. Saki seems to be struggling with her identity while at the time, Kanon is still a bit of a mystery.

The Moon on a Rainy Night is an adorable manga. This first volume started so well and I was upset when it ended. This is one that I will be looking to continue.

If you like soft, coming of age stories, pick this one up. Saki and Kanon are loveable characters. Their friendship and budding romance is lovely to see that could warm a heart.
