I’m the last person in the world to pick up this series so I’m absolutely sure you don’t need a synopsis, but just incase, ACOTAR is a beauty and the beast inspired fae fantasy romance full of fun (and mild smut). Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review!

I can’t lie, I was nervous, so nervous going into this because everyone talks about it constantly it seems. I’ve literally had this saucy new adult fantasy on my tbr since it’s release in 2015… I’m not sure what made me pick it up this month but it’s exactly what I needed! It’s such an easy read (despite the fact I’ve been so busy this month, it was an easy one to pick up and put down without leading me into a slump) and it was just so fun! The love interests were hot (as they should be) and the main protagonist, Feyre, was badass and I loved the beauty and the beast fairytale elements weaving through the story. This book also included one of my favourite tropes ever - trials!! I love a good trial, me.

Was it the best piece of literature I’ve ever written? No, but I’m not sure it was meant to be. I absolutely loved it for what it was!

Was given this ARC in exchange for a honest review.

I was wary of this book as this series has been so talked about recently and bigged up by people , also being my first book read by this author I was un-sure, but I can happily say it lived up to expectations.

It starts off fairly slow but you can expect that from a book starting a new series with lots of new characters and world building to be done, however once you get past that it grips you. I love the magical land and characters in this book. I have heard that the second book is everyone's favourite in this series so I am excited to see how the characters progress in the next book.

I mostly forgot that this book was inspired as a beauty and the beast re-telling but looking at some moments you can tell. It is full of lot's of peoples favourite tropes and I love that.

I think I may need to go and purchase the rest of the series imminently.

Mind this is based on 6 chapters only.

I am not off to a good start. The writing is nice, but the cliché "my family of outcasts hates me I am their Cinderella" really put me off it. Fortunately, things change after chapter 5, turning into more of a "Beauty and the Beast"...and I feel I have read this before. Again, I am not saying it is bad, but it is not really "mind-blowing"
It felt a too YA (and I do enjoy YA!) and very predictable. Unfortunately, seems like it is just not for me!

This series is one of my all time favourites and this book is the perfect way to entice you into reading the rest of the series.

From the first moments I was hooked on the world and the characters and couldn’t wait to see how the story unfolded. And I was not disappointed.

Maas strikes a perfect balance in writing a romance and a fantasy in which we get to see Feyre fall in love, with enough fae politics to fall into both genres.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book, as well as the rest of the series!

A Court of Thorns and Roses is a great tale of love conquers all and nothing is as it seems. I wish I could read this book for the first time all over again and fall in love with all the wrong people who turn out to be all right in the end and those who you thought were forever, end up hurting you the worst of all.

ACOTAR is such a cute book compared to it's sisters aka sequels 😂

Wow - I can see why this has become a big hit! I felt like I was the only person in the world who hadn't read any of this series, so I happily clicked to have the opening sent to my kindle. I love the setting as well as the pace of the story, and can't wait to read more. I can see how this will be a 5* read.

In 3 Words: I am obsessed

Fave Quote: We need hope, or else we cannot endure

I absolutely loved ACOTAR and was already drawn in by the first few chapters. Feyre is a compelling main character with strength and personality. I enjoyed familiar elements from Beauty and the Beast, like Feyre with her 2 sisters, and then when she's taken as a beast's prisoner. It's nice to read a story inspired by the original fairytale rather than the Disney version. It's difficult to like Feyre's family during these chapters, but it's a sign of great writing when the author can control your perception like that

I'm kinda disappointed that there are still no trigger warnings in the updated version of this books!
This book needs trigger warnings for the sexual assault Feyre goes through under the mountain!
Other than that this is a solid fantasy and I enjoyed rereading this. Feyre is a typical fantasy heroine but her being illiterate is a nice touch.
I liked the fae world and this reminded me how magical the first few books were when there were still magical beings and enchanted woods and I wish the later books were more atmospheric.
Tamlin was a douche even in the first book, however I have to question an authors skill for building up characters if the only way to make a love interest switch happen is completely villainizing one person and excusing all the bad actions of the other.

How do I even begin to describe this book? It’s magical and fun and dark and brutal and my head feels so full of faerie glamour right now I don’t think I’m going to be in any way coherent. I am quite literally blanking on what to say here… So we’re going to take this one bit at a time.

Prythian is incredible! I love the way the world is split up into different courts who are stuck in different seasons and have different customs. Of course so far I’ve only been to visit the Spring Court and Under the Mountain, but I’ve heard stories of the others. I’m really excited to visit the Night Court in A Court of Mist and Fury, even though it does sound a little scary from what I’ve read.

All the characters are so well done! Feyre was a really good protagonist in my opinion. She was independent if not a bit emotional, but very impulsive and reckless (she reminded me a little of Clary Fairchild in that sense) which made me smack my head and shout at the book (A LOT). I did really enjoy reading from her perspective though. I’m so glad the relationship progressed slowly and she didn’t just go from “I hate faeries” to “They’re the best” overnight; it made it far more fun to read! What did really bug me is that everyone was really disappointed in her, and Alis called her stupid towards the end, but HOW WAS SHE SUPPOSED TO KNOW? NO ONE COULD PHYSICALLY TELL HER ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT WAS GOING ON! So yeah, that bugged me a bit…

I found Tamlin to be an incredible Beast. I loved him. He may possibly be giving Dan Stevens a run for his money. But he was caring, and kind and funny and just little things about his relationship with both Feyre and Lucien just made me so happy! I’ve read a few things about people not liking the way Tamlin treated them both, but I didn’t find that he did a terrible job considering the situation. It was a little weird why he sent out his men past the wall, but who would want to wear a mask forever? So I kind of understand. He did really remind me of how the Beast is though, especially when Feyre first arrives and he tries to compliment her, I laughed far too much:

“You look…better than before.”

Was that a compliment? I could have sworn Lucien gave Tamlin an encouraging nod.

“And your hair is…clean.”

The really simple things in this book just cracked me up.

I think Lucien was my favourite out of all the characters. His general snarkiness just made me laugh so much, I swear I was laughing at simple things way more than I was meant to:

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I demanded.

“If I offer you the moon on a string, will you give me a kiss, too?”

“Don’t be an ass,” Tamlin said to him with a soft snarl, but Lucien continued laughing, and was still laughing when he left the room.

I must’ve spent a good ten minutes just laughing at this part of the book, which is probably way longer than necessary, but I don’t care! But there is so much more to him and learning more about Lucien and seeing how he acted towards Feyre in the end chapters made me love him even more. The amount of times I got far too emotional because I thought he would die, that just told me he’s my favourite.

I actually hated Rhysand…I could not get my head around why people love him so much! By the end he wasn’t completely awful, but the last 100 or so pages of him made my skin crawl. I felt so physically uncomfortable that I kept having to put the book down and walk away a lot! I felt more hatred towards Rhysand than to that horrid witch (she’s about as bad as the Seelie Queen but still!) As much as I rave about books that quickly become my favourites, it’s been such a long time since I last felt that same kind of hatred/physical discomfort towards any other fictional character. The last time I think was Sebastian, from The Mortal Instruments series (anyone would think I’m reviewing those books with how much I’ve been talking about them in this review!), and he was one hell of a good villain! I almost love it that I hate them so much (on different levels), as they’re so well written that I’m glad I can get this kind of response from reading about them. Rhysand is a really well written character, but I just don’t like him at all! But, maybe by the time I’ve read and I’m reviewing A Court of Mist and Fury I’ll be crying all over him and regretting everything I ever said about him in this review. Who knows? Maybe I’ll just blame it on the faerie wine!

Love this! The setting is so intriguing and I can’t wait to see what happens next!! I’ve heard so much about this series so I’m super excited to see what the hype is all about. It’s a little slow to start but I think I will quickly get absorbed in this universe.

I have always wanted to try reading this novel so when it came up as a sampler on Netgalley, I was so glad and got stuck in.

From reading the first few chapters, I found the concept of the novel really interesting and thoroughly gripping. I will be getting the full version to read.

This book leaves you wanting to move onto the next instalment straight away to find out what happens next!

Sarah J Maas has created a well thought out and intricate world that you can get lost in and never want to leave. I love the court systems!

The first 50 or so pages are kind of slow but then it really picks up from there where you are entered into a world with well developed and intriguing characters, by the end of the book I was cheering out loud for Feyre to succeed in the challenges that she had to face!

I've heard so many good things about these books that I was scared to buy them, just in case they didn't live up to the hype. Thank you so much for this excerpt as it's definitely shown me they should be fantastic. I'll be looking at the series as soon as I click submit.

4.5 stars

So I'm not going to lie I went into this book thinking I'd hate it, spoiler alert I didn't. And I was actually annoyed at that 🤣

All I'm going to say is I get the hype now

Anyone who reads this genre knows fae and human interaction means fireworks and this book is no exception to the rule. A good rollercoaster of a read. I would recommend it.

As soon as I read the first chapter of this book, I knew I was going to love it. The imagery & setting descriptions are so detailed & in-depth that you really are captured into this world from page one - it's magical!

Absolutely incredible read! This book emitted cosy fantasy vibes with a beauty and the beast twist! The beginning was slow but that’s to be expected with a fantasy series, but despite the semi slow beginning the world building honestly felt magical!

This book follows Feyre a mortal, and Tamlin The High Lord of The Spring Court and he is a faerie. In this enemies to lovers romance you see the relationship between the both of them slowly bloom.

This was my first fae fantasy book and I couldn’t imagine a better book to begin with!
With such an interesting plot and interesting characters it was hard to want to put it down! The ending had me on the edge of my seat! I can’t wait to see where the rest of the story goes.
