This book follows a very diverse group of young people - many with cool names (my favourites were Thoreau and Einstein) - who band together to form the World Patrol Kids and take part in a music contest to raise environmental awareness.
In the process of trying to figure out what would be the best solution for the town's garbage problem - which includes the dumping of medical waste in the sea, leading to beach closures - they also start investigating some decidedly dirty business at the recycling centre.
The story is fast-paced, fun, and packed with puns and some really good raps. Thoreau's nightmares are also a nice touch. My favourite is the garbage monster. I also enjoyed the trip to Tsavo and the kids' adventures there.
The characters are cute and caring, and manage to deliver a lot of information on various forms of environment pollution as well as ways in which children can help save the planet.
This should be a great choice for kids who are already interested in these issues, or for parents who want to get them interested.
