I honestly don’t know how to feel about this one…. On one hand, it kept me invested from start to finish but on the other, I really have no idea what was going on so I’m just confused lol 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is a new to me author and didn't disappoint. It was a very original story with a protagonist that I couldn't help being invested in.

Multiple teenagers killed in separate events, hauntings, and a dark cloud hanging over the town.... is this the paranormal at work or is there a crazed vigilante at play?

I would probably rate this book 3.5 stars instead of 4, only because the conclusion wasn't exactly what I wanted and left me feeling a little cheated. Definitely worth the read, it did get a little creepy in some parts as well.

I had an advanced audio copy of this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review. I thought the narrator did a fantastic job and I think listening to the book made it just a tad creepier.

A great high school haunting story.

The twists and turns this one took had me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed the horror elements of the story but was glad it stayed more on the psychological side of things.

Thank you NetGalley and Mark Wheaton for the free copy

Neuro divergent rep!!!
Yesss! Absolutely loved having a main character with autism!

But the book itself; oh my goodness!!!
I have freakin' chills!!!
When a book finishes and it takes your breath away, how could you give less than 5 stars?

Loved this creepy book and wow wow wow I hope there's a part 2 where we get to root for the "bad guy" and her revenge!!!

Please, author dude, make this happen!!!

This was a super interesting play on a haunting. At times I got legitimate goosebumps— the narrotr’s hiss in “You found me” will haunt my thoughts for weeks to come!

A fast-paced book with an excellent, creepy and unsettling atmosphere. With an intriguing twist and a protagonist that captures your heart, this novel intertwines tension and mystery with humour and the supernatural to create a book that keeps you gripped at every twist and turn.

Thank you NetGalley for the ALC.

Though this is not something I would teach my students, it is a great book that young adults should be exposed to. The diversity included in this novel is great - the main character is neurodivergent, so teens who may not understand autism will get a first person experience listening to/reading this novel. The plot is extremely original. I have never really read anything with this type of plot. This novel is highly engaging and accessible which is something that young adults need!

I was so engrossed in this novel that I couldn't get enough!

OH GOD THAT ENDING AHHH!!! Bed has Autism and is just going through her everyday life when suddenly kids from her school starts dying in weird ways. So as one does she starts investigating, but then the same thing that happens to her fellow classmates starts happening to her.

THIS BOOK WAS SOO GOOD! I didn’t not expect half of the stuff that happened in here, especially that ending like what? I have never read a book with this premise at all and that made it all the more amazing.

Let me just say the audiobook is amazing, the narrator is amazing she actually had me pretty scared with Holly not gonna lie.

All in all this is one of my favorite reads of 2023!

This was a bit of a wild and creepy ride! I was left hanging and wanted to know what happened to the person who actually set all of this in motion! This was my 1st book by Mark Wheaton but I am definitely down for reading another!

This was excellent. Part ghost story part psychological thrill, all enrapturing. Rebecca “Bex” is just trying to make it until graduation when her classmates suddenly start dying and she is swept into the middle of the mystery. This book kept me engaged and wondering until the very end. All I want to know now is when is the next one coming out?

Wow! Wow! WOW!!

Weird things start to happen at Bex's highschool.

Her classmates start dying. She starts hearing things, seeing things that aren’t really there and, before long, Bex finds herself in the middle of the mystery and the clock is ticking.

Bex has to figure out why her classmates are dying and who is behind this.

I don't usually see a lot of books that have autistic/neurodivergent main characters, in addition to doing it well!!

Wonderful YA horror/ghost story. 😍

Who Haunts You is billed as YA, but I think all fans of suspense and ghost stories will love the high school senior protagonist, Bex. Bex is autistic and differently-abled, but she is relatable in so many ways, particularly as the mystery deepens and she is thrown into jeopardy. Any person reading her story will surely be able to put themselves in her place and wonder how they’d react to the same eerie circumstances. What if my classmates/coworkers/neighbors started dying in seemingly unrelated tragedies, and only I saw the connection… and no one believed me when I spoke up? Author Mark Wheaton has a real knack for putting the reader into the mind and heart of his characters (I felt the same way while reading Emily Eternal, and Wraith).

There are some incredible twists and a “wow” of an ending, too! I hope Who Haunts You is the start of a series because there’s so much more to explore with Bex

I listened to the audio version of this novella and while I loved the narration, I think it will be just as exciting as a “page-turner” (or swiper, if you’re an e-book lover).

Thank you to NetGalley and Off Limits press for this opportunity to read rate and review this arc which is available September 2,2023!

First off this is a teen horror novel with autistic rep. I am autistic. The rep at times missed the mark because Female autistics are hard to peg. However looking past that part this story was a phenomenally creepy read. The fast pacing had pauses but those pause built the tension instead of becoming dull and boring.

I think my autistic daughters(all 3 of them) would actually enjoy this book and the audiobook which the narrator, ANNALEE SCOTT, slayed so hard at. She gave this story life!

High school senior Rebecca “Bex” Koeltl is just trying to make it to graduation. But when her fellow seniors begin dying in seemingly unrelated incidents, Bex uncovers disturbing connections between their deaths, including that the teens believed they were haunted by long-dead relatives their own family members swear never existed. After Bex is visited by a malevolent specter of her own, she realizes she has to get the bottom of this horror before she’s its next victim.

This was quite a haunting and atmospheric story. It excelled at being creepy and leaving you hanging in suspense right up until the end. I quite enjoyed it, though I’m still split on the ending. It left me a bit… perplexed… in a way that I still can’t decide if it makes the short novel better or worse. But maybe that’s it’s own kind of success? Because either way, I remain haunted by it.

Annalee Scott did an excellent job narrating the audiobook.

Thank you Mark Wheaton and NetGalley for providing this ALC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.

This was a really good book, that keeps you guessing the whole time
I'd say its a YA Psychological Suspense/Horror Thriller, there are sooo many great elements in this book
Also the atmosphere is great, nice twist, a little bit disturbing, makes you question sooo many things, def keeps your attention and interest plus great characters. I like the family dynamics and the main character's (Rebecca's back story. Well done.
Marked as YA but as an adult, I really enjoyed this book, Never underestimate the mark of a YA book they can still be great reads for adults.

I was so thankful for being able to listen to this book (audiobook) in advance due to getting the ARC from the publisher and Net Galley. :)
The above is my opinion. It is honest and voluntary.

The author did many things right in this short work of horror. The protagonist was wonderfully written. Bex is autistic, and the author portrayed her realistically without victimizing her. She was also relatable, complex, and likeable, which made it easy to become engaged in her story. The secondary characters were just as well written, with solid characterizations and unique voices that made them all come to life.

This work is only 170 pages, which was close to the perfect length. The author did well with not dragging anything out or making things too fast paced, instead including a good amount of information while revealing things at a reasonable pace. The work does start off a bit slower as we’re introduced to the characters and their lives, but I never found it boring. There were a few instances where I was sure I knew where the book was going but I generally ended up being wrong. I quite liked the ending and how it was more open-ended and felt quite atypical for YA reads. I did want a bit more from the build-up to the resolution, though – the last 15% of the book felt a little rushed and made me want a bit more depth from it, especially relating to the historical case study (can’t really say much because of spoilers).

There ended up being several spooky moments in this read, and the audiobook narrator did an amazing job adding to the tension and eeriness. I read this in one setting and never lost interest. If you enjoy suspenseful YA psychological/supernatural reads that are fast paced, you’ll likely enjoy this one.

I enjoyed this title. The audio/narration is well done. For me, it was a fairly quick listen that continued to have me guess. I would have loved to see just a little more character and plot development.
Bex is a neurodivergent senior that is very observant. Some of her fellow classmates begin to die, and she dives into finding a pattern in order to cope. This story will take you on some twists to find out what happened to these students.
Thank you, NetGalley, for the copy of the book. All opinions are my own. #whohauntsyou #MarkWheaton #NetGalley
