How did Steve Irwin become The crocodile hunter? This Little people BIG DREAMS book will tell you all about it. Follow him from childhood and see his love for all creatures, especially crocodiles expand
A well written, interesting book perfect for children and adults alike.
Thanks NetGalley for an e-copy for an honest review.
I love this series of children books. Such iconic people in history or well known celebrities for kids to read about.
I loved Steve Irwin and grew up watching him so reading this brought back that love I had as a kid. My kids loved this book as well and after reading we got lost on YouTube looking at clips from him.
I loved the pictures as well. And such an easy read for younger children. Can’t wait to get a physical copy of this book when it’s in stores!
"Steve's memory keeps encouraging us to love, cherish, and protect wildlife."
I love this series so much and I can't wait to add Steve Irwin to the collection. This one really focused on his passion and his life - his love for protecting, and looking after wildlife and his family. Absolutely perfect for kids and adults alike. As always the illustrations are beautiful.
I know it is a taboo subject, as he wouldn't want an animal to have a bad name after it due to his death. But it would have been nice to touch on the subject rather than just briefly within timeline section of the book- it was touch on nicely described as tragic death. As Steve Backshall said in an interview when briefly asked about Steve Irwin "Steve Irwin is the exception that proves the rule. So having gone through the medical and scientific literature, there has - to my knowledge - never been another case of someone being killed by a stingray barb to the heart. It wasn't just not just a billion to one shot, it was a many many billions to one shot."
Thank you Netgalley for an advance copy of the book for an honest review
This was such a cute book! I was always a fan of Steve Irwin and The Crocodile Hunter show- it was a big part of my childhood. I love that this children’s book will continue to spread his legacy to the next generation of children, who hopefully will learn to love and have compassion towards all animals.
The illustrations are eye catching and beautiful! This was a quick, brief history of Steve’s life and definitely keeps kids engaged throughout the story.
This was an adorable tribute to Steve Irwin on of the greatest animal activist of all time. I really loved this book it is super cute!! I will definitely be reading this for my storytime at some point.
I am a huge fan of this entire series, and as soon as I saw that there was a Steve Irwin one, I had to request it.
I share these with my nephew and he loves them. And this one was no different. He loved the brightly colored and adorable illustrations, and we were both fascinated by Irwin's history. I loved learning that his own love of animals actually came from his parents.
The timeline at the end with photographs was a lovely addition, and it led the two of us to youtube to watch some clips of The Crocodile Hunter.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group from me and my nephew for this advance reader's copy!
What an amazing book it is that recounts Steve Irwin's early years and how they influenced his lifelong quest to aid and conserve wildlife. Early on, his parents taught in him a love for animals that he later shared with the world and that, even though he is no longer with us, continues to be felt.
I used to watch his programs when I was a kid, and this book is a wonderful way to convey Steve's story and his work to our kids in a way that's exciting and enjoyable, as shown in the excellent illustrations that will grab their interest and fire up their imaginations.
I particularly loved the book's final message. - "Because we don't own this planet, we belong to it, just like any living we share it with."- What a lovely way to end, reminding us to be nice and compassionate to everyone around us.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really love all the Little People, BIG DREAMS books and this is no different. The vivid illustrations are eye-catching and just well-written for kids to read and understand better. Will definitely recommend purchasing it when it comes out
Crikey, this is a great book!
Most of us have heard of this amazing, enthusiastic human decked out in khaki shorts and have been inspired by his drive to respect the planet. His legacy lives on.
Readers will learn about a little Australian boy who had a dream - Steve Irwin. He grew up on his family’s wildlife reserve and began saving crocodiles when he was just 9 years old! His love of animals earned him the nickname, “croc-catcher.”
I loved the backstory of how the successful TV series got started and how he met his wife. My niece and nephew enjoyed the vibrant photos and soon headed to the dress-up box to ‘play’ wildlife warriors. Message received, Steve Irwin.
His daughter Bindi tearly pleaded, “I don’t want Daddy’s passion to ever end.” This book heralds a new generation of wildlife warriors who will carry Steve Irwin’s passion for all living creatures.
The timeline, photos, illustrations, extra facts, and simple sentences will appeal to young readers.
I was gifted this copy by Quarto Publishing Group, Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
This book was absolutely stunning! I grew up watching everything Steve Irwin offered and it shaped the person I am today. Care for wildlife conservation is an important lesson for youngwr generations, so when I saw this illustrated book for young readers I had to rlget it immediately. I enjoyed reading this book, and my niece enjoyed reading this book, it captured one of the best humans the world has had so well. Would definitely recommend!
A lovely introduction to such a wonderful wildlife legend, and a very deserved addition to the Little People, Big Dreams collection.
It fills me with joy that young people are going to be able to learn about Steve Irwin and all the incredible things he achieved, and the legacy he left behind.
A really great book for little ones to inspire them to follow their dreams and take care of our home - Planet Earth
Thank you to NetGalley & Quarto for the DRC
much, much respect for The Irwins. The love for animals is one of the purest love ever exist. Steve and Terri was a match made in Heaven, hey meant for each other and together they're a power couple to make the world a better place
This book was absolutely adorable! My five and eight year old were captivated and asked the best questions! It’s awesome letting a new generation continue to learn about such a legend!
A beautiful children’s book on the life of Steve Irwin. From the small beginnings with his parents, to fame and awareness with his own family, this book is a good introduction for children about being kind to animals, and awareness that we share the world with them.
CRIKEY this book is perfection. Steve Irwin and his love for wildlife and conservation was the running thread of my childhood. Getting to share this man’s incredible life story and mission with my kids through this beautifully illustrated book was such a joy. It touches on his early life, how his family came to start their wildlife park, how he met Terri and how their family has continued to grow and expand education around wildlife. It’s truly inspiring and now I want to find old episodes of The Crocodile Hunter to show my children! We cannot wait to add the finished copy of this to our home library!
I received this book as an advanced reader copy from NetGalley in exchange for this honest review. Fans of the Little People, BIG DREAMS series will appreciate the newest addition, "Steve Irwin," which provides a glimpse of Irwin's early life, wildlife conservation efforts, and advocacy. I read this with my child, who enjoyed the illustrations and wanted to learn more about Irwin and his crocodiles immediately after reading. 4/5 stars.
I was really interested to read this addition to this popular book series about Steve Irwin and I think it will appeal to a lot of children. Featuring the signature series illustraions filling the pages, this is eye catching and helps young readers understand the content. I enjoyed finding out more about Steve's younger years and what got him into animals and protecting nature. I was surpised that this did not mention how Steve died, neither in the story or the extra details at the end as this is fairly important and that he died doing what he loved. Also I think his enduring legacy carried on by his daughter could have also been mentioned as this might lead children to finding out more about her.
Brought back nostalgia from my childhood of Steve Irwin. Wonderful book helping his family spread awareness on helping animals and that we’re fine own the planet we belong.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to view this book in exchange for my honest review.
Steve Irwin is one of my top childhood hero’s and I was so excited to see this title come across! I had never heard of the “Little People, Dream Big” series. I’m so glad I have! I will recommend these books to everyone with kids.
The artwork is beautifully detailed. There is heart-warming information and statistical facts of Steve Irwins life in easy to digest bits for kids. I loved how this highlighted the influence that he had and continues to have in regards to wildlife conservation. So thankful I was able to discover these adorable children’s books!
Steve Irwin was a little boy who loved to spend time with wildlife, and he spent a lot of time and energy saving injured animals in the wild. As he grew, he became known as the crocodile hunter, and he became an outspoken voice for crocodiles and other wild animals. He and his family became conservationists, people who fight to conserve the natural habitats of animals. Steve and his family were inspirational, and wonderful role models of how we should interact with nature!
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advanced review copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review on the book!
