I just love this series! It’s such an interesting premise: a special hazmat team responds to a warehouse fire, only to be involved in an explosion that gives them special abilities.
Jessie thought she lost her husband the day of the explosion 5 years ago. Little does she know that he has been part of an experiment the last 5 years that also removed his memories of his life before.
This was truly heart-wrenching. Jessie’s struggles and the fact that Quaid is nothing like the man she used to love and thought she’d lost.
But they try to find their way, while also dealing with the same challenges the group has been facing for the last 2 books: Schaeffer.
5 stars!!!
I really enjoyed this interesting take on a paranormal romance. With an array of different powers, the characters that populate this series have developed them after being involved in an accident and fire that altered their DNA. This book is the third in the series, I seem to have missed the first two, but it was fairly easy to pick up on most of the background.
The storyline was interesting, it was a second-chance romance of sorts. Although in this case, Quaid has no memory of his past, while his wife Jessica believes him to be dead. The connection between them still exists, but with everything that has happened, their relationship has changed and possibly gone forever. I enjoyed reading about their rediscovery of one another.
It was clear by the end of the book that not all questions had been answered and I wondered if these might be touched on in future books? In many ways, the end did come quite quickly, but I still enjoyed it. There were lots of characters to keep track of here and I think that it might have been slightly easier if I had read previous books. That was really the only area that made it more complicated though.
This was a good read and I would like to go back and read the first two books, as well as reading future books in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.
Firefighters that have supernatural gifts, and are running from the government. Need I say more? Overall, I enjoy this series and the concept is just so cool and quiet honestly believable. This particular one in the series I struggled a bit with, only because I felt like
story focused so much on the past. Personally flash backs aren’t one of my least favorite tropes.
I received an ARC from Net Galley. This is the first time I have read and heard of Skye Jordan.
The books cover, and title is definitely eye catching and interesting. The book definitely had a lot going on. I personally struggled to keep track of the main characters and their actions throughout the book.
Jessica has struggled with the death of her husband for the last five years. She has made some poor choices while trying to cope but now she is getting her life back on track. Suddenly the people from her past are asking her painful questions about her husband and she has to confront that fact that he might have been alive for the past five years. Q only knows life as a prisoner and being tormented by the people holding him hostage. He only has one friend in the world and his visions of the beautiful woman to keep him sane.
Some readers might consider this review full of SPOILERS even though I'm trying to be vague.
I really like how the author juxtaposed both of their struggles. Both of them have honesty as a top priority but both struggle with honesty in different ways. The struggle of Jessica accepting her dead husband is alive was contrasted with the struggle of Quaid to accept that the firehouse crew is his family. I thought Jessica's story of addiction and recovery was good and added a layer to her character. The two of them realizing that they still love each other but now that love is new was a good revelation. This story slots right into the storyline of the prior books. You really need to read the prior books in order to understand how all of the characters interact and how they fit in the bigger world. The bottom line is you have to accept that these people have special powers and that they are just part of how their world works.
I thought the bad guy was weak. There is someone that attacks the group that I thought was going to really add to the story but it really went nowhere. The big bad guy just seemed to be full of bluster even when he did some truly evil type stuff. Is it really all just about corporate greed? Can he really be destroyed easily? I'm hoping for more in the future books.
This is a contemporary romance set in a few different locations but mostly in a safe house. You really need to read this series in order because everything is tied together. I will definitely read more from this author in the future.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Cygnet Books for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is book 3 of the series. It reads okay as a stand alone, I knew it was part of a series, but it doesn't detract from the book. I honestly must say I didn't love Jessica-not sure why, maybe because of how she handled her past-it did not make her look very strong. Quaid League "Q" on the other hand-what a strong character, he is very lovable. For me, this seemed pretty convoluted and jumped around. You think they have found a way to be free, and boom another surprise! I found it a bit confusing and so so much drama. But I liked all the main characters. 3.5 stars
Once again we are with the team that developed abilities no one can explain after they attended a chemical fire. This time we get Jessica Fury and Quad's story Five years ago only one of them walked out of that inferno Jessica she is now a lobbyist in Washington but she has never gotten over losing the man she loved. Then a rumour surfaces Quad now known as Q is alive but he has been fashioned into a killing machine with limitless abilities but at his heart he remembers a woman a woman who needs him and he will do whatever he needs to find her and return to her Can these star crossed lovers find one another again and will they get a HEA. Be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster.
Overarching story with this installment focused on Quaid and Jessi....
The story intorduces us to a set of characters that have paranormal abilities after a hazmat incident at a government facility that supposedly killed Quaid five years ago. Newly married to Jessi Fury (hence the title), he was the adrenaline junkie. Now, five years in the present, Jessi is a mess with no control over her own paranomal abilites and an addiction to Xanax she uses to deaden her abilities. But the group thinks Quaid, now called Q by the shadow government agency is alive and that they are keeping him prisoner to do all sorts of tests on him.
There's an escape, a run and a capture. It sort of ends on not quite a cliffhanger, but at least not much wrap up on Jessi and Quaid, but a good lead into the next book.
Recommend.

Hell hath no fury (Phoenix rising book 3)
By: Skye Jordon
Absolutely mind blown AGAIN!
In book the in the Phoenix rising series we get Quaid and Jessica’s story and what an incredible read. This book was so intense I would laugh one minute the be utterly devastated the next. But oh so worth the emotional rollercoaster. The authors writing flawless and the words are so captivating, the plot had so many twists and turns and none that I was expecting, and many shockingly intimate I have become a huge fan of this author. The author writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.
Authors Blurb: As a high-profile Washington lobbyist, Jessica Fury has all the coveted trappings of DC: money, connections, and influence. But five years ago, she had something far more precious: happiness. She shared a firefighting career with her husband and the love of her life, Quaid. Then one day her hazmat team walked into a chemical inferno and Quaid never walked out. Jessica has been through hell to piece her shattered world back together. Then a rumor surfaces that could bring a miracle or destroy her--again.
Q has been a prisoner for as long as he can remember. The men who hold him have honed his mind and body into weapons, and he's developed abilities no one understands. They wipe out his memory, test him like a lab rat, and lie. Even though his past has been erased and he doesn’t believe he has anything to live for, instinct tells him different: there is a woman out there who needs him. And what his mind can't remember, his body can't forget. . .
This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.
Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕
Oh my goodness Ms. Skye Jordan! I don’t know how you do it, but you continue to amaze me with each new novel you create! If you’ve read my reviews of any of Ms. Jordan’s books, you know she’s a favorite of mine and one of the first authors I read when I first began my journey into reading romantic suspense. You’ll also recall that I’m not a fan of paranormal but I gave this series a “chance” since it was Skye Jordan after all. This is what romantic suspense looks and reads like, but this author goes well beyond that. Her writing is superb, the story line flows and you won’t be able to stop reading once you start. I am so fully invested in these characters – I love each and every unique one of them. I’m happy that Alyssa has found a place among this group; I get a kick out of Keira; the banter between Ty, Teague, Luke and now Cash; and Mitch – I want to know more about this man! This “found” family will do everything and anything for each other and I love that! Hot Blooded, the 1st book in this series kept me on my toes and wanting more and Shadow Guardian, the 2nd book, gave me more. It was so intense and emotional, but I have to say, this 3rd book slayed me. Jessica and Quaid’s story gave me all the feels and then some – they had me laughing and crying in equal measures. This was such an emotional read for me and even though it was emotional, I didn’t want it to end. And that’s no surprise because I always feel that way when I read Skye Jordan’s words. I 100% recommend reading this series if you’re looking for something really different in the romantic suspense genre – you won’t be disappointed. I am so very grateful to have been given an opportunity to read an early copy of this book.
Jessica Fury is a Washington lobbyist. She has never forgotten the incident that took both her husband and her happiness. Jessica’s former hazmat team re-enters her life with a shocking revelation. The surprise could make her happy or it could destroy her for good. Can Jessica and her friends expose the one responsible for the chemical fire five years ago? Will they ever discover who Q really is?
Q has spent five years as a human lab rat. He remembers nothing of his former life. Q dreams of a certain woman who made his captivity tolerable. When he is rescued by strangers, Q comes face-to-face with the woman from his dreams. Now they must evade the unscrupulous people who want him back. Will Q ever get his memories back? Or will he be forced to return to his captors?
I just could not like Jessica. She is not the type of heroine I like to read; she came off too wishy-washy for my tastes. I could not empathize with her at all. Yeah, I understand that people deal with grief in myriad of ways. I get that. It just did not work here with her. Jessica’s personality is what kept me from enjoying the story. Which is ironic, since I did not mind her so much when the book was first released. Now I just find her too pitiful.
My heart went out to Q/Quiad. The man had undergone so many horrors by unscrupulous people. I like how he found a lifeline with his dreams of Jessica. They kept him from giving up and becoming a killing machine.
HELL HATH NO FURY is the third book in Skye Jordan’s romantic suspense series, PHOENIX RIDING. The author must have got her rights back from Kensington and re-released the series. HELL HATH NO FURY’s former title is RUSH. I remember when the author first released this series back in 2012 and 2013 under her pseudonym Joan Swan.
At the time, I really enjoyed the first three books. The fourth, SHATTER, I never got around to reading because it too is a second-chance story. I am not a fan of that trope, so I hit my limit of tolerance with the second and third book. I wanted something different and more for my boy Mitch.
I had a difficult time getting immersed in the story this time around. Things I did not mind back then grated and annoyed me now. I know my preferences have changed, and I suspect that played a significant role. I noticed the author updated the technology in the story’s new version.
This book will pull on your heart strings like crazy. I have been waiting on their story and now that I have read it I want more! The love between Quaid and Jessie is like no other. They have both been through hell and made it out alive only to fight another fight for what they both desperately want. Will they be able to make it out alive and get their dream? I was given an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Oy, this was a hard read, but in a good way...I think? Book 3 of Skye Jordan's Phoenix Rising series is hard to review without spoilers, but I'll try.
First off, Jordan has created a completely fresh take on paranormal suspense romance with this series, and Q and Jessica's story is a good addition. That said, it's my last favorite so far. I think I was just so in love with Alyssa and Keira, the kick-ass, take-no-prisoners heroines of books 1 and 2, that Jessica's much weaker and broken character didn't fully sit well with me. I suppose the stuff she got into during the five years after the warehouse fire that destroyed her life makes sense in a realistic way, but it just made it hard for me to find redeeming qualities. Therefore, I was depending on her to make some grand gesture in the present... and I'm not fully sure that happened.
Q. Oh, man, this guy has suffered. Reading about what he endured is not easy, and his confusion and difficulties as he navigates freedom is much easier to understand. He has a long way to go still, but that's what future novels are for. And for that, I say, "Huzzah!"
If you are a suspense fan more than a paranormal fan, you might find the team's increasingly unbelievable abilities hard to swallow. It's handled okay here, but I do worry that it'll get more unbelievable as we get further along in the series.
One last note: Each book so far follows one couple's journey, and in that regard, each can be read as a standalone. That said, there is an overarching story that is critical to each book's plot. After getting through the first few chapters, I had to stop. I went back and reread books 1 and 2 and then restarted this one. Do yourself a favor and read from the beginning.
I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher and Netgalley. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!
This was an interesting premise for a Paranormal romance. I loved the hero at the beginning and was a little sad to lose that personality, but understood it and it made sense for the plot. Quaid had been "dead" for 5 years and it was understandable he would have a different personality. The heroine was okay, there were times I really liked her and times she was annoying. I wish there had been more about the couples ending relationship, but the suspense of the plot was great.
Read this book on my way to the beach and I really enjoyed it. The bantering, spice (it's a slow burn) BUT when it comes, it doesn't disappoint at all. And I also loved the character growth for both mains. I'd recommend this book to anyone for sure! Thank you to the entangled team and author for sending me this as an arc!
This is an amazing read. So intricate and detailed. My imagination had no problem visualizing events. Even the paranormal ones. Loved the ending.
Fast paced action. Sex. Angst. Second chance love. Super powers. Two people who have gone through hell to find each other. I absolutely loved this story and can't wait to see who's story is next.
Jessica was a firefighter on the hazmat team. There was an explosion and they all ended up with weird powers. Only the man she loved beyond reason, her husband Quaid, didn't make it. Now five years later after leaving the team, Jessica is a lobbyist in Washington. She has been to rock bottom and has pulled herself back up. Her former team members show up and have a special coin that they say belongs to Quaid. They want her to use her powers and go to him.
Q\ Quaid has been a prisoner for five years. They have done experiment after experiment on him. They have made him into a soldier that is almost unstoppable. The only this that has kept him partly sane, was the vision of a woman. When he is rescued, by the beautiful woman and others, he has no idea who they are.
Jessica and the team work to help Q get him memories back but nothing works. Q knows Jessica because he has been seeing her in his dreams for years. When a poison is set off inside of Q, Jessica and the team will do everything in their power to get the neutralizer.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for Netgalley *
I’m a sucker for a story with old-school paranormal elements. Secret powers? Count me in.
I was DELIGHTED that our heroine had an unwilling ability to affect the weather. Storm! Yes! Thrilled(!) that other characters had somewhat of an ability. This is my jam!
Those secret abilities didn’t have as much of an impact on the story as I hoped. This isn’t an X-Men series, dang it. Neither is it a heartbreaking reunion story a la Maya Banks KGI series, though it seems to try. It is its own tale. It’s a good one. I apparently missed other books in this series, but I think I figured out what came before. I could have used a little less hard cold “That’s not the man I am now.” I get that he went through 4 years of change, but people continue to experience change. Still, good book that was out of the norm. 4 stars.
