Wokeness abounds, but in a fun-to-read way, as a girl is asked at school what her favourite colour is. She, unfortunately, has a lousy teacher, as she is able to go through all of them in turn, in rhyming couplet form, before the girl and teacher combine to say they're-all-brilliant,-end-of-lesson,-sorry-not-sorry-that-nobody-else-can-get-a-word-in. And of course, like all the colours of the rainbow, all the kids in the class are dazzling and wonderful and the world isn't complete without any one of them. So it's over-flowing with positivity and joy and equality for all, but not at all objectionably so. Clearly the blurb about it being a way to teach the very young their colours is having a laugh, but let's pretend that's what this is here for and say it gets four stars. It gets four stars whatever its motive, tbh.
I really liked this book. The illustrations were cute, and it gave pros of liking every color of the rainbow. The characters were also diverse which I enjoyed as well. I will be getting this one for my toddlers.
This is a sweet story about favorite colors. I love the illustrations and how they focus on the favorite color. The conclusion is great and a subtle nod to how we are different colors and we are all great too, but it doesn't beat you over the head. Kids who are attracted to bright colored books are sure to pick it up.
Such a cute story with great illustrations!! I thought it was just the sweetest story. An easy, quick read with big impact!
This was so lovely! I adored the writing and the illustrations and it was easy to read. It had a lovely flow to it and I could imagine reading it aloud to a nursery/reception class. My only criticism is that it is clearly a book for teaching children colours and it's not hugely clear on each page what that colour looks like (other than in the word where the colour is mentioned) as there are other colours used in the illustrations. It would be useful to have a blob of the colour on each page or a page at the end where all the colours are clearly labelled to make it clear!
Fun and cheerful and cute illustrations! It would be good for teaching colors to kids and for talking about the things they love.
I really loved the message of this book.
The rhyming pattern was great. Illustrations were colourful and interesting. Overall, cute book that teaches the importance of all children.
My Favourite Colour is a fun trip through the different colours of the rainbow (and more!). With delightful illustrations and fun rhymes, we learn to appreciate something different about each color. Of course, in the end, all of the colours are wonderful, and we can appreciate them all for the beauty they bring. This is a wonderful way to show kids positivity and inclusivity, and to see that even though we may be different from each other, we all bring beauty to the world in different ways. Fun book with a wonderful message!
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advanced review copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review on the book!
