Becky has returned, after a 16 year absence, to the small island of Kirton. Despite most of the island not wanting her there due to her scandalous past, she has to settle her mom’s estate. She’s also trying to write a book about Violet, a teen who went missing from the island.

In the midst of this, she’s being threatened with notes, and other strange things at her mom’s house. Since everyone but her best friend’s family seems to hate her, she has no idea who is doing this to her. She befriends her new neighbor and soon they ease into something more. When another teen goes missing she knows she has to figure out who is responsible and fast.

I was on the edge of my seat guessing what was going on. I loved this book and can’t wait to read more by Lisa Hall.

I really enjoyed The Day She Disappeared.
It was full of intrigue and had some great twists.

It was very well written and I loved the small island community atmosphere. Becky was an interesting and mysterious main character. With the rest of the characters, I really wasn't sure who to trust, which just made the book more intriguing.

The final couple of twists were unexpected and really surprised me.
I highly recommend.

Thank you NetGalley & Lisa Hall for the opportunity to read an ARC of The Day She Disappeared. I enjoyed the mystery of the missing girl and the pace; however, to me, I feel as if there were too many side stories to keep up with and watered down the main story line & plot. It was a decent read.

This book was a bit hit and miss for me. I liked the story-line of the missing girl and found the mystery and pace of this worked well, but there were also lots of side stories that I found diluted the main story-line. Overall it was just an ok read for me.

Ever since I read Between You and Me, Lisa Hall has been on my "stalk her social media for her next book release" radar. She's really that good. Her books get me so excited about reading every time.


This was a thriller through and through. Becky has had to return home after being gone for a long time after being involved in a scandal. She is a journalist and is back to write about a local missing teen with a troubled past. Becky has one friend that still supports her after everything from her past and someone new enters the picture offering to help her.

While investigating Violet's disappearance she receives bricks into her home, hate mail, and break-ins. Someone clearly doesn't want her there. We don't know what she did, but then another teen goes missing and it gets even more crazy. If you live thrillers, this is for you!

This book felt exceedingly slow to me. I just kept waiting and waiting for it to pick up. I knew early on who the culprit was, so that could have been why I was slightly bored with it.

This is another quality read from Lisa Hall, having loved some of her early books, I was super excited to delve into this one, and I can absolutely report that it is an absolute treat!

The story is based on a fictitious British Island, the protagonist is Becca, she left the Island immediately after high school under a dark cloud. The novel starts with her receiving a phone call from her teenage bestie, Megan, summoning her back due to her estranged mother being on her deathbed. What follows is a rollercoaster for Becca, residents on the Island give her a frosty reception to say the least, it is well worth reading this novel to find out why, as the 'past' timeline reveals all, in its tragically heartbreaking glory. As for the present timeline, well, ... the things that are happening on that Island that are well worth reading about!!

I thoroughly recommend this novel and cant wait to see what Lisa Hall comes upon with next!

Becky returns home to an island where she isn’t welcome after the death of her mom. Before she leaves again, she is determined to find out what happened to her sister Violet.

I just couldn’t get into the character’s voice. I also was lacking suspense. I think maybe flashbacks could have been utilized well here to help build suspense.

I’m sorry, but this one wasn’t for me. Too slow and difficult to keep my interest. It simply failed to keep me entertained.

I was instantly hooks on this one. Our girl has come home after 16 years of building a new life. I love books where someone is forced to come home to their small town and deal with all the feelings associated with that. Rebecca left as a young adult and never talked to anyone again, including her mom and best friend. Although she did send a letter to her mum, she never got a response. She spent all that time thinking her mom didn't want to be in touch.
Now mum is dead and she has to deal with the seaside house. Rebecca is the perfect protagonist because she really can't stay out of people's business.
When she sees a popular teacher leaving her friend's daughter's bedroom her hackles are raised but no one is taking her concerns seriously. As the daughter of a "creepy" dad, I would have the same reaction! At first I felt sorry for Megan because Becky abandoned her and then I felt like maybe Megan deserved it.
At first you think that Rebecca is imagining everyone hating her, as people do, but then as the book goes on you discover that they do hate her and then the reasons are slowly revealed. I love that! Because we only have Rebecca's perspective.
Perfect atmosphere and wonderful story. One part had me bawling.

Sixteen years ago Becky left her childhood home on Kirton Island swearing never to go back, but now, after a call from her best friend Megan telling her that she needs to come back as her mum is ill, she returns and everyone makes it clear she's not wanted, they can't forget what she did, the reason why she left but Becky has things to do and as a journalist and a true crime writer she refuses to go until she has found out what happened to Violet, a young girl who disappeared a year ago believed to have run away to the mainland, a theory her sister Ivy is convinced is not true. When Becky starts asking questions she is certain someone in the community knows the truth and will do anything to keep it hidden.

The Day She Disappeared is the latest thriller by Hall, set just off the coast of Dorset, the story is told from Becky's perspective and across two timelines, the present day and her teenage years where everything went wrong. This was a typical case of crying wolf and nobody is ever going to believe you if it wasn't true the first time, even if you have some evidence to back it up this time round. It's an intriguing plot with some tense moments, a little slow through the first half of the book but soon picked up later on and was brought to a very satisfactory ending with that cliffhanger. I did guess who the perpetrator was around half way through but this didn't, in any way, detract from my enjoyment of the book.

The Day She Disappeared was my first time reading a book by Lisa Hall and it certainly won't be my last. I really enjoyed how engaging and atmospheric her writing style is and the story kept me intrigued from the very first page. The edge of your seat anticipation didnt let go and kept me guessing until the last gut wrenching twist. I couldn't put it down and found myself reading well into the night to find out how this one was going to end.

This is a book you call a "one sitter". There is no way once you start you will be able to put this one down and will easily finish in one sitting.

What a book

I read this on my holiday after receiving off netgalley. This book had you guessing and guessing all the way through it. A little island guessing who did what. I thought I had it then I was wrong. Loved the ending will definitely be reading more from this author.

Fairly typical domestic thriller that one would find in an airport bookstore.

Nothing surprising or groundbreaking, except maybe an underground fight club.....

Either way, there are better stories out there.

Remote islands and a small population Is a great setting for a thriller!.

I did find some things hard to beleive but it was a great story with twists and turns.

This is one of those - something happened long long ago but the protagonist left the island, only to come back and have to face it - books! But it is a very good example of one!
Becky has come back to the island she left many years ago to sort out her mother's estate after her death, having just failed to get back in time to say goodbye. She really didn't ever want to go back there, due to something that happened in her past. A missing girl. But, she is a journalist now and thinks that investigating her disappearance might help both her life and career. Although there are those still living on the island that remember her from the past and wish she'd never come back and only want to see the back of her... With only best friend Megan on her side and, also a new face to help her, can Becky finally put her ghosts to rest? And then another girl goes missing...
I do love this author's work and I have to admit that I pounce on anything I see of hers as soon as I can. She can usually pull the wool right over my eyes but I did happen to guess certain things early in this book. Not that that really messed things up for me, there was still a lot of juicy detail that I didn't cotton onto which kept me going. It also did get a bit busy towards the end when things really started kicking off and nearly, but not quite, went a bit too far. I also kept screaming at Becky to take other forms of action - spoilers prevent me from expanding here - but, at times, she was her own worst enemy!
Pacing was, on the whole good, and matched the narrative all the way through, slower at times to reflect Becky's frustration. The story got on with itself without any superfluous padding or waffle and the ending was just as deliciously twisted as I expected!
All in all, a worthy addition to an already impressive back catalogue. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
