This wasn't a thriller, sadly. In my opinion it had no thrills or mystery and it was incredibly slow and devoid of an interesting plot. The baddie was obvious the minute they appeared. Perhaps it should be marketed differently and put in a different genre to lower expectations, as us thriller fans do like our thrills and plot twists! However, to end on a positive note; I love the cover.

Thank you to #NetGalley, #Joffe Books and Lisa Hall for the opportunity to read an advance copy of THE DAY SHE DISAPPEARED, to be published 10 October 2023. 4/5 Stars for this slow burn domestic mystery occurring on a small island off of the Great Britain mainland. I was frustrated to have to wait for more than 50 percent of the book to learn why the protagonist had left the island in disgrace 16 years earlier. From there, it was pretty slow getting to the end to learn who the culprit was. But the turns and twists were worth the wait. #NetGalley #JoffeBooks #LisaHall #TheDaySheDisappeared

Coming out October 10th, the day she disappeared by Lisa hall is a quick page turner thriller with strong true crime vibes that leave the reader guessing who, if anyone on the isolated island of Kirton can be trusted! With a dual timeline and lots of secrets and lies I was gripped to the end to see how it all shook out despite guessing who the villain was about 3/4 through. An easy 4 stars. I would absolutely read a work by Lisa Hall again.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The tension and menace throughout certainly held my interest. Rebecca Gannon left her island home many years ago, on the death of her mother she returns. The curiosity as to why she left is intriguing. Bring a journalist and a writer she tries to solve the mystery of a missing young woman, Violet, from the island. . There was so much going on it was hard to put the book down. . A gripping read with some surprising and not unsurprising revelations.

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for an ARC of this book.
The premise for this book is a woman who returns to her hometown after 16 years after leaving in disgrace.
The best part of this book was the setting. Loved the remote nature of it and the close-knit circle of islanders. Also I could visualize the breathtaking view from Rebecca's house.
On the surface everyone seems to be hiding something. People clearly don't want her here. But the MC struggles to delineate between friend and foe.
The reveal isn't a big shock at all. The twist about Megan did catch me by surprise. Although the author had skillfully been dropping hints in this direction.
I was baffled by the rapid aboutface of certain characters. Given how their storylines resolved, I was confused by why they were initially so confrontational with the MC.
Overall I recommend this book. Great read

It’s very rare for me to give a review of 5 stars but this book deserves it. I save 5 stars for a book that’s not only well written but one I can’t put down. The Day She Disappeared is a well written suspense / thriller. I enjoyed the plot development in regard to not only the characters but life on the island. I could not guess who was responsible until the end. The secrets that characters harbored were unexpected. Bravo!

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 disappointing stars. I’m a fan of Lisa’s previous books but found this one very average.

Unfortunately the main character was really unlikeable and the twists were easy to guess.

With no real investment in the characters I found it a slow read

Thank you to NetGalkey for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

Becky returns to the island of Kirton, just off the coast of Dorset, after she receives a call from her sister to say her mother is terminally ill. Becky hasn’t been back to the place she grew up in a very long time, and is filled with dread about going back. Becky hasn’t been back because of a tragedy on the island that she feels personally responsible for. But now is the time to face up to her past.

This book had so many elements to it. Becky was a complex character, and I really enjoyed reading her story. Lisa Hall always produces a well written story, that is full to the brim of darkness and secrets. And this one is no different. The characters were believable and relatable, and of course, there’s the added element of the “who dunnit”. Full of twists and turns, right to the end. A great read as usual from this author.

This felt a little amateur to me. The main character was frustratingly dense and the obfuscation of the villain was both heavy handed and unsuccessful. The writing was often repetitive, which slowed the pace and affected the book negatively. This all being said, there were nuggets of a great mystery/thriller! I liked how it all came together, I just wish it had been tighter/neater/more of a jolt! Hard to give specific examples without spoiling anything.

3/5 stars.

“ A remote island. A missing girl. A woman with a troubled past”

Rebecca “Becoy” Gannon has a past that some people will never forget. Like the islanders who live on the island that Becky grew up on. The same island she has had to return to even though she swore she would never go back to it. The islanders however, do not want her back just as much as she does not want to be back. The scandal that caused Becky to leave is still fresh in their minds.
She does have one ally though. Her former best friend Megan still wants to have a relationship with her. Yet Becky still feels as though she needs to leave the island. There is a mystery though. One that Becky hopes to solve before she hightails it out of there. A young woman named Violet went missing a year ago. People think she just ran off with her boyfriend and left the island where her family lives. Violet’s sister thinks something much more sinister has happened. Violet would have called her by now.
Becky soon realizes after asking questions that Violet most likely never left the island at all. AND, someone knows more than they are saying about her whereabouts. The truth is going to stay a secret no matter what. Yet as Becky continues her search, she must look into her past as well. The scandal….. what happened? Can Becky figure out if her hunch is right, or has she tragically got everything wrong?

This is a new to me author and I was greatly impressed with how the author builds up the suspense with each chapter. The characters are developed and work well together. I was fully engaged from page one and cannot think of anything that could have been done differently. The ending was not at all what I expected and threw me for a loop. I honestly thought I knew the outcome a few times and each time I was wrong. If you enjoy mystery novels, then you will certainly enjoy this one. The only con I have is the pacing of some of the chapters. While most safe fast paced and are fluid, there are a few that tend to drag a bit. Not so terrible in the scheme of things. The author has taken great care to make sure the reader is engrossed and entertained while also not leaving any bread crumbs to make it easier to figure out the ending. Those are the books I love and this one has been added to my favorites.

I'm on the fence about this one! I did enjoy it, was invested pretty quickly and loved the suspene and creepy atmosphere...... but then..... something really weird happened and the entire book became super odd! The characters actions didn't make sense to me, it all felt so unbelievable nd while I appreciate we make these exceptions in fictions.... this really pushed the limits between "fiction" and just ridiculous. The 1st half wad amazing though!

A good well written book from this author which I enjoyed although in my opinion the last part of the book was a bit strange for me and I wasn't enjoying it as much as the first half.

On the whole the characters were good but for me personally it didn't keep me on the edge of my seat unfortunately.

Thank you to Netgalley and Joffe Books for this ARC.

Just when I thought I was tired of stories set on a remote island, this gripping thriller changed my mind! I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.

While I suspected two of the three main twists, I wasn’t sure how everything would play out until it was happening.

The way Hall revealed the backstory in bits and pieces added great suspense and urgency, especially in the book’s first half.

Until we find out “whodunnit,” I found this story far more mystery/thriller than a psychological thriller, but it was captivating all the same.

Although Lisa Hall has written many books, I’m a first-time reader. I look forward to reading her past books and her future works.

4.5 stars rounded up. Fabulous read!

A very good thriller that had a good storyline, had creepy parts, and lots of suspense until the very end. The characters were believable, as was the story. You cry wolf once and then you won’t be believed again and I like that this was the case in the storyline. I enjoyed the pace of the book, and it had me turning the pages quicker towards the end. I did work out who the perpetrator was around the 75% mark, but it didn’t ruin the story for me in anyway.

Ooof. So let me just say that the first half of The Day She Disappeared was quite intriguing. I was honestly completely invested.

So it pains me to say that I feel like the 2nd half was a giant mess.

The MC, Rebecca, with her neurotic inner dialogue & the frequency with which she questions herself was just preposterous. She lost her mind with her outlandish accusations and her dialogue with others felt so forced, fake and silly.

The countless times vandalism was done to her home and her refusal to call the police…uhmm no gurhh, stop. Wake the hell up ffs.

Her odd relationship with her lover and the fact that she couldn’t see what was so obviously right in front of her face….. just no, smh.

The back half was too convoluted imo. Borderline ridiculous.

But hey. There was even a secret Fight Club in the end🥴

I’m sorry, but this one wasn’t for me.

Big thanks to NetGalley and Joffe Books for this arc in exchange for an honest review!

If you love a “thriller”, READ THIS ! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Becky is back on the remote island of Kirton, where she grew up, but not for the best of reasons. Her mother has passed so she needed to return to settle her estate despite the islanders wanting her to stay gone forever. Becky has been gone for 16 years and hasn’t had to face anyone from her scandalous past until now. Becky’s a journalist on the mainland and is hoping to write a book about a missing teenager, (Violet), on the island. In amongst taking care of her moms estate she digs into the missing girls past .
Megan is her best friend, and seems to be one of the few who still seem to support her. Becky befriends a neighbor, Stephen who quickly becomes more than a friend . As Becky is investigating Violets past , she is battered with hatred notes, bricks into her home and pictures of her past left inside from a break in! Who could want her gone from the island so badly ? I had my guesses !
To put a twist into things, another teenager goes missing while Becky is still on the island. This only makes her more inclined to find out who is taking these girls and what has happened to them .

Persuasive! Surprising! On the edge of your seat, anticipation !
I enjoyed the thrilling read and suspense! Lisa did a phenomenal job of keeping the reader engaged.

Thanks to @netgalley and @joffebooks and @Lisahall for this ARC for my honest review!
Can’t wait for the next.
