After nearly skipping this book in my TBR lineup, I’m so glad I looked at my list again! Snow Days with You by Leonie Mack is full of action, humor, and love all taking place on the Alps.
The French words I’m not sure how to pronounce as I’ve never learned the language but hope to learn someday along with a dozen other languages. But seeing the words and understanding how beautiful it sounds makes it all worth attempting to read it and pronounce in my head! Thankful for the translations provided as well!
Luna arrives in Chamomix, France looking for the reason a man she’s never met had her as beneficiary of his life insurance with a large sum of money. She knows she was born in an area nearby and wants to pay her respects. All she knows is his name and the general area he may have been.
Except no one knows him by his given name because he used a nickname for many years. Luna learns to ski and climb and goes up to a refuge high in the mountains with her trainer, rescuer, and handsome gendarmerie, Yannick. He spent months teaching and training Luna to get to the refuge just to see a photo that might be her when she was little. The woman who’s afraid to take risks, took on the adventure of a lifetime to get to that photo.
Luna doesn’t even find answers there! She did gave a chance to get to know the gendarmeries and learn more about her childhood a bit. And she accomplished something she never would have otherwise! I’m thankful the details were just enough to create anxiety but not so much that it was fearful as I’m not much of a risk taker myself!
I love Yannick’s character. He’s so great at keeping calm and bringing people down from fear. He’s also a loving father and so patient with Luna. But I also like Sylvia and her stones! She’s also comforting and encouraging, a lovely soul to support Luna on her mission.
I give this book 5 out of 5 tiaras because it’s easy to read and I was so engrossed in the story that I could barely put it down! Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for access to this title!
Snow Days With You is the third book I've read by Mack via RaRa's Resources.
I was a little disappointed that it wasn't quite the festive fiction I was craving, but it soon more than made up for that with it's wintery vibes and French Alp settings, and an extra sweater for me.
Whilst a windfall would be welcome, I'd be extremely dubious with it coming from a mysterious benefactor and I certainly wouldn't be as brave as Luna in travelling to Chamonix to find out why.
The story is a slow burning, heart warmer of a romance narrated from several POV and the characters are so lovely, it was so easy to become emotionally invested in their stories.
Beautifully written, engaging and thoroughly enjoyable.
I really enjoyed this book. The author does a wonderful job of scene setting and descriptions. You feel like you are in Chamonix. I loved the mix of French and English in the character conversations. It made things feel more authentic.
Overall this is a good romance embedded in a great overall story.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Well written romance with likable characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.
Luna has driven to Chamonix to find answers after being left a life insurance payout from someone from her late mothers past. She is not expecting to meet Yannick, who has his own issues to work through. What will happen when it is time for her to return home? I liked the setting and how it is told from both points of view.
Neither one was expecting their lifes to be turned over by the other. They were looking for each other without even knowing it. What a wonderful story that ended with many SIGHS!!!
Snow Days With You is a wonderful wintry read, a slow burn romance with a sense of mystery, one of my favourite kind of romances. I loved the romance so much it left me feeling so warm and cozy amongst the snow capped mountains of France. I’ve not been to France but Leonie’s wonderful writing definitely made me want to visit.
I loved the fact that though theirs is blossoming love (Yannick and Luna) that it is still the main reason for Luna’s journey that strays the main focus for the story and Luna. Yannick made such a gorgeous knight in shining mountain uniform and I loved his opening up to love, as well as his scenes with his daughter, made me melt so much, very emotional.
The story took some turns I definitely didn’t expect and I love it when an author does that , the sense of mystery and adventure is so good, mixed in with the themes of mountain rescues made it so interesting and exciting. I also loved the use of French within the book, it’s done so well and makes the book feel much more authentic
If you’re looking for a story that will grab you, take hold of your heart and not let it go, has humour, heartache, slow burn romance, adventure and tension, this is definitely the book for you.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
I just adored this book so much, I love a friends to lovers romance and this beautifully written story completely stole my heart. I think this story has great character development and an emotional depth that makes it easy to empathise with the characters. I lost myself in this book and was sad when it ended. It was full of festive spirit, love, and chemistry, I am desperate for a sequel and you will be too.
Leonie's books are my comfort reads. This is the sixth book I've read from her, and all of them were genuinely funny, romantic but not sloppy, and set in an amazing location.
Luna is learning to ski and climb in the snowy French Alps from a mountain rescue guy. This is a mere fraction of the story but enough to say that I can totally relate. And she has just inherited a hefty sum from an unknown man! Yay!
Luna Rowntree embarks on a life-altering adventure on Christmas Day when she receives an unexpected legacy from a mysterious man she's never met. Determined to uncover the reasons behind the bequest, Luna, accompanied by her mother's ashes, sets off to the snowy mountains of Chamonix. Facing challenges in her trusty Astra, she finds herself stranded, only to be rescued by Yannick, a mountain rescue hero with secrets of his own. The novel beautifully weaves a tale of self-discovery, love, and the magic of unexpected connections against the backdrop of a snow-covered adventure. With Luna's determination and Yannick's reluctant charm, "Snowflakes and Secrets" is a heartwarming and enchanting read, proving that sometimes the most unexpected gifts come in the form of snowy mountains and newfound love.
My first Leonie Mack book was an audiobook ARC for My Christmas Number One at the start of 2021. I have since then read nearly every single book Leonie has released after that one and I have loved many of them, but I think this one was the best one yet!
Luna was a lovely main character and I immediately understood her need to find out more about the benefactor and felt her pain at the loss of her mother. I was immediately invested in her story! When Yannick got added to the story it just got better and better. Yannick was so much more than I had expected... he was the perfect male lead for this story! The setting really came alive and I felt like I had been there and seen and experienced many of the things Luna and Yannick saw and did and I wanted the story to go on forever, but I also wanted a conclusion. Wow! I was blown away!
Luna received a sum of money from a life insurance pay-out. On a whim (she didn’t even get proper tyres for her car) she drives over to the village of Chamonix in France to find out more about the man who left her that money.
In Chamonix Luna meets Benton Fraser of the RCMP, I mean, Yannick Pasquier of the PGHM (mountain police). Trust me, the only way to tell these two guys apart is because one wears a red coat and the other a blue coat. Yannick offers to help her on her quest.
Luna learns to ski.
Luna learns to climb a wall.
Luna learns about mountain rescue.
And Luna learns about the life insurance.
Feelings develop between Yannick and Luna, but at 80% of the story, her quest has come to a finish. Which leaves a bit too much of the story for Yannick and Luna to realize they really, really want to be together.
Luna comes into a large some money from someone she doesn’t know, but this journey to find her connection leads her to a lot more.
Yannick is running from his past but it’s now time to face them and he may have found the best person to do it with.
Another fantastic book by Mack which had me enjoying every page I didn’t want to put it down. I love this author's writing that they give so much description you can imagine yourself there as you read.
told through a dual point of view this narrative easily keeps the reader engaged as we learn about both these main characters the growth they have throughout the novel
At the start of the novel, we meet 30-year-old Luna Rowntree. It’s Christmas Day and she’s in Chamonix. After being left a large amount of money from a man she’s never heard of, she has gone to France to try to find out more. There she meets Yannick who is 38 and works for Mountain Rescue.
I don’t want to tell you anything else about the plot, because I recommend you all read it and find out for yourselves.
This was such a good book! I was hooked straight away and interested by Luna’s story and what she might discover in France. I love romance novels, but this had an added appeal of a mystery too, which took it to another level.
Yannick is such a sweetheart and I loved the relationship he had with his young daughter. There are lots of other great characters too. Silvia was another of my favourites.
It’s very atmospheric with lots of snow and mountains, plenty of skiing and cold. (It would be an ideal book to read in a heatwave, as I’m sure it would make you feel colder!) While I was less interested in the skiing parts (I’ve never been skiing), I loved all the French language bits, as I studied French and it was nice to test it out a bit – but, don’t worry, everything is explained if you don’t know any French. It was fascinating to learn more about the PGHM and mountain rescue too. It is obvious a lot of research has been done to make this feel so authentic.
It’s fair to say that the idea of living in the French Alps, with mountains covered in snow, skiing, mountain climbing etc is completely foreign to me. I mean, I live in Australia. We do have snow regularly a couple of hours away from me, but it is something that you go and make a special effort to see as opposed to something you expect to see., or that you live and work in. It's enough snow to ski on, and of course, has its dangers. To make it even more foreign to me I was reading this book when I was on holidays in Hawaii – not a place known for it’s snow.
Luna Rowntree is supposed to be heading to her cousin's house in Sheffield, but she makes an impulsive decision, instead heading to the town of Chamonix in the French Alps. Months before she had received a significant inheritance from a man she had never heard of before and she doesn't know why. She doesn't feel comfortable spending any of the inheritance until she knows that it is really meant for her.
As this was an impulsive decision, Luna is ill prepared. She doesn't have the correct tyres or snow chains, or the right shoes or clothes. When she runs out of petrol outside the headquarters of the elite mountain rescue squadron of the French Gendarmerie Nationale, the PGHM (the Peloton de gendarmerie de haute montagne) she meets a gendarme who assists her to find somewhere to stay for a few day.
Luna is determined to find out more about her mystery benefactor. She does know that he is somehow linked to this town, as her mother lived here briefly before she was born. she starts asking questions, which once again brings her into contact with Yannick.
Whilst Luna is searching for answers, it seems as though Yannick is hiding from life. He is an experienced rescuer, one of the best, but that isn't enough to prevent him from being traumatised by the rescues that went wrong. His marriage is over and he knows that a lot of that is to do with the pressures and dangers associated with the job so he is reticent to get involved with anyone His biggest joy in life is his young daughter who loves to ski with him, much to his ex-wife's annoyance.
It seems that for Luna to get the answers she needs, she will need to ski and climb the mountains, and Yannick is the one to teach her. In return, Luna will teach the members of the PGHM how to use English in emergency situations.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved how Luna and Yannick were together, even before they were together, together. Yannick was patient and gentle with Luna as he taught her some unlikely skills such as skiiing and mountain climbing. He also helped her piece together a past that seemed very different to the past that her mother had told her about.
I liked reading about the work of the PGHM. It is incredibly vital and dangerous work, rescuing people who find themselves injured or lost on the mountains. These are people who put their lives at risk to save others and it was fascinating to read about their lives, and to see the camaraderie which exists amongst such close knit groups.
I have read several of Leonie Mack's books now. One was set in Paris, one in Italy, and now this one set Chamonix. What they all have in common is the sense of place that the author is able to convey. I can't wait to find out where Leonie Mack will be taking us next!
I would firstly just like to say a big thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my kindle, in return for my honest review.
This is Leonie Mack’s new wonderful Winter romance and i absolutely loved every little second of it!
It was such an easy book to read and i found myself flying through the pages. Each chapter pushed me along to the next one and I couldn’t read it fast enough, i devoured it in no time at all - who needs to sleep anyway!!!
This book pulled me in right from the very beginning and i loved getting to know all of the characters, they were all so down to earth and real.
I loved this story and loved being immersed in all it’s snowy goodness…..
A very cute read. I was a little unsure about Luna to start with. But she really grew on me. Overall I really enjoyed the book. I loved reading about the French Alps and I really got to like Lydia and Luna. It would have been nice to have Yannick a little more fleshed out. Sure he’s a nice guy, but what else? A fun read.
Beginning on Christmas day, Luna's journey, already fraught with difficulties that she recounts with humour, suddenly stops. When she thinks she is in a situation she cannot handle, timely help arrives. This is the pattern for her discovery trip in Chamonix, almost like she's meant to be there. I like this serendipitous element of the story. It's an emotional read, but the poignancy is balanced with humour and gentle romance. I like Luna. She's a complex, compassionate woman who wants to do the right thing. The wintry setting is described with sensory imagery, and the excellent characterisation makes them believable and worth caring about.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
An unexpected legacy from someone she doesn't know
Has Luna Rowntree deciding she needs to go
So off to Chamonix she sets off hoping to find
Why someone she doesn't know was so kind.
Running out of petrol, really wasn't on her plans at all
And marooned in the mountains she isn't sure who to call!
Yannick, a mountain rescue man, comes to her aid
And volunteers to help her as more plans are made.
No one seems to have heard of the man she's searching for
But folks are friendly and there are many to adore.
The story of her quest, the setting and the mystery, too,
Make this a brilliant read with so many surprises going through.
I really enjoyed this beautiful read, characters and escapades, too,
As well as the crystals, the mountains and new things she learnt to do.
A moving story of searching for secrets from the past
Before moving on to a new future that will hopefully last.
For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,
Such an enthralling read and this is my honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and author Leonie Mack for providing me with this eARC
Overall, I enjoyed this book. Will it be a new favourite? No. But is it a cute read for the winter time? Yes.
The premise is interesting and I enjoyed Luna slowly coming out of her shell and becoming more confident. The romance was cute, however I wish Yannick would have developed an actual personality besides being a good guy way, way earlier in the book.
All in all a cute winter romance.
