A really enjoyable rom com with heart. I loved the friends to lovers trope and it was a perfect one sitting read on a cozy, rainy, fall day. Perfect for a huge mug of tea, cozy chair, and warm blanket curled up beside the fire.
This was a excellent ready by Rachel Dove. You will want to continue reading to find out what happens next! She keeps you intrigued that you can't stop reading.
Okay stay with this one. At first it might take you a little while to get into there is alot to take in. Alot of characters to match up. But when you do it is a good read.
This book took me by surprise, one of the reasons that I had wanted to read it was because it seemed to give a bit of twist on the normal friends to lovers trope by it being told by the MMC instead of the FMC. But when I started reading I realized that I was actually told from the perspective of many characters as their stories all intertwined. It took me a bit to warm up to it but once I did I enjoyed it.
This story had elements I enjoyed, I liked Rory and his relationship with his Goddaughter Annabel. I enjoyed Sarah and his relationship. I did find I didn’t really connect with any of the characters and because of that it took me longer to get through this story than I normally would.
There were moments in this book that made me laugh and once I got into it I did want to know what happened next and read it in one sitting. It’s a slice of life, closed door friends to lovers story and a cute read.
Thanks to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and the author Rachel Dove for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I was so exited to read this one, but it turned out a mess
The mmc had a messy relationship with his father and he still carries ptsd from all this
Besides that the rest of the book was so cliche I can’t even tell you one thing that was authentic
This was a nice rom com! One thing Rachel did really well was characterization. I felt like I quickly understood who Sarah and Rory were and what motivated them. She also did a fantastic (!!!) job of making me hate Greg with a capital H. There is a bit of heavy handedness with the toxic masculinity and subsequent misogyny. It made it a bit difficult to get through at times. Overall, I did enjoy this book and connect with the characters.
Mr. Right Next Door, by Rachel Dove, is a light rom-com friends-to-lovers novel that I read in an afternoon. Although the story was a bit predictable and the neatly tied-up ending seemed pushed; I did enjoy the choice of characters...some were loveable and some I loved to hate.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this novel.
The main story is centred around Sarah and Rory, best friends since childhood, they still spend a lot of time together with Sarah's 6yr old daughter, Annabel. The story is told from the third person POV so we also hear about some of the peripheral characters which really just explains their back story and how they fit into the story.
Rory is an accountant whose personal style is rather beige but he is trying to change who he is in order to meet a girl he fancies, who is a local PR rep and is often in the club owned by Rory's dad and where Rory often helps out with the accounts. With Sarah's help he gets a new haircut, new clothes and contacts but he also decides to stop being the nice guy and start being the "bad" guy to attract the girl he wants.
Sarah is trying to manage her relationship with her ex-boyfriend and Annabel's dad, Greg. He's a narcissist who thinks every woman wants him and that he can basically do whatever he wants, whenever he wants and won't let anyone stop him. He's a fireman, but only for the perceived glory he gets from it. He doesn't care about the small things that go into running a fire station and he constantly bails on his daughter and tries to punish Sarah by not helping out with Annabel.
Eventually everything works out and Greg gets his comeuppance which was fantastic to see. I loved seeing him knocked down a few pegs on a few different occasions.
This was a good story, quite enjoyable but it seemed like Sarah and Rory could have just spoken to one another at the beginning and there would have been no misunderstanding how the other one feels. It was well written and I thought getting to see the occasional POV from one of the other characters was quite good, it gave them more depth and possibly opens the door for their own stories.

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an advance copy of Mr Right Next Door by Rachel Dove in exchange of an honest review.
"Rachel Dove's 'Mr. Right Next Door' tackles the important message of choosing character over looks. In a society where many are drawn to the allure of "bad boys," Dove skillfully reminds us of the value in seeking out individuals with good intentions and respect for others. Through the clever use of multiple perspectives, the story comes alive as we get to experience the thoughts and emotions of not only the protagonists, but also the supporting characters and the antagonists. This approach adds depth and richness to the narrative, making it an enjoyable and thought-provoking read. Whether you're a fan of contemporary romance or simply appreciate a well-crafted story, 'Mr. Right Next Door' is definitely worth adding to your reading list."
Rory promised his mother on her deathbed that he would be a good guy. But being the good guy has proven to be a lonely life, but women always go for the bad guy. Just take a look at Sarah, his childhood friend. She met Greg, the hot firefighter, and got pregnant before she realized he is a total ass.
Sarah helps Rory to be a little bit more "bad guy" so he can attract the attention of his crush. But Sarah really doesn't want Rory to change. He's great the way he is.
This is a heartwarming romance about longtime friends who realize they've really loved each other all along.
It's written in third person. I'd say this is women's lit/romance but there is absolutely no spice. Closed door - matter of fact I don't think it even alludes to sex.
Funny and poignant, this light hearted and optimistic rom com is a joy. Meet Rory and Sarah - and Gill and Dinah, and Doug and Bunny, and Sasha and Greg - lots of characters, lots of plots, in that very messy British way where everyone is in each others’ business and it all works out eventually. RD moves the POV between these characters, so we have a clear view of each of the key storylines.
Rory is gorgeous, and has the most character growth, Sarah is just trying to keep it together. It’s closed door, with no shortage of pining, at least for Rory.
Well drawn kids are rare in busy novels, but Annabel is gold. She’s precocious, and sassy and seems to know what’s best for everyone.
Perfect for fans of Catherine Walsh, Katie Fforde, and Amanda Brookfield, this is such a tender read - we just want the best for Rory - and Sarah.
Thank you NetGalley, Boldwood Books and Rachel Dove for the ARC.
Mr. Right Next Door promised a delightful exploration of self-discovery and the pursuit of love in an unconventional way, but unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. I would rate this book 2.5 stars.
The story centers around Rory Gallant, a man striving to be the opposite of his player father, Doug, and to find love. The premise holds promise, but the execution left me wanting more.
One of the primary issues I had with the book was the lack of connection and chemistry between the two main characters, Rory and his best friend and neighbor, Sarah. Their relationship, which should have been the emotional core of the story, felt forced and lacked authenticity. It was challenging to invest in their romance, which left me feeling disconnected from the narrative.
While it was a fast-paced read, I would have preferred more substance and emotional depth in the plot to truly connect with the characters and their journey.
First of all, Rory's mum was such a queen omg!!! The queen born a king aka our Rory. If you like friends to lovers and single mother trope, this is going to be your jam. Greg was such an a** tbh, man was such a sl*t..... like dude you've got a wife, a daughter, in short a family to take care of and you still walk around with your d**k outside your pants, 24/7!!! The banter was cute and all, but the ending seemed a bit to hurried and incomplete.
This was a bust for me, and I gave up very early on. Within the first three chapters, there were crude sexual acts and a child talking about parents being sexist and gender stereotyping. Absolutely not something I want to read about. I would have been more inclined to finish the book had these things not been thrown in from the beginning. I found these things to be off putting and I was not comfortable reading after.

Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this eARC. This is my first read by this author. It’s a light rom-com read! Enjoyable read & memorable characters.
I’m a big fan of reading though multiple points of view. If you like that as well then you will enjoy this book. The two main characters are Rory and Sarah who have been best friends since they were little. Rory made a promise to his mother while she was dying that he would be a nice guy. Sarah has issues with her daughters father and how much of a jerk he is. Rory sees around him woman going towards the men that are jerks. Maybe he needs to stop being Mr. Nice Guy.
Thank you #NetGalley for the advance copy.
I really loved this one!!! A lot of laugh out loud moments happened. I also enjoyed the message that Rachel Dove was trying to get across in this book of girls wanting the bad guy when there's a good one waiting on you. I loved the different perspectives this book gave it kept me intrigued and made me want to keep reading. Overall an amazing romcom!!!!
Funny story of a man trying to be a good man, while around him all he sees is women flocking to the bad guys. Finally, he takes the advice of a friend and changes his attitude and his look, and the woman he thought he wanted came to him.
Thank you to the publisher for the early copy. I deeply enjoyed the story and think readers will especially appreciate Andrew and his sweet personality. It doesn't go too deep to slow down the pacing but also doesn't shy away from feelings. I would describe this book as a cozy Saturday afternoon read.
This was a very cute book but I struggled with all of the alternating point of views. This is just a preference of mine overall I really enjoyed this book.
