This saphic romance had my hopes high for some fall festivities. However, from about half way I found myself cringing and closer I got to the end I cringed harder. It was a semi cute and quick read but I doubt I would recommend.’
I honestly wanted to love this book, but for some Reno or other I couldn’t get into it, it felt like it was longer than it actually was. I tried to fly thru it but It was so hard. I might try at another date to reread it and see if maybe it was one of those books that isn’t for you in that moment but later on you realize it was a good book. For now I will mark it as 2 stars.
Cute slow burn romance with well written characters and a pumpkin patch and pumpkin spice. The relationship between Nicki and Carter was really cute and sweet. Each had a lot to overcome emotionally in order to get to their happily ever after and their friends and family were there too help push them along. I loved th relationship between Nicki and her sister Rachel, it's such good and loving relationship. This was fun to read and I would definitely recommend this book to my friends and family and I look forward to what's next from this author.
Pumpkin Spice by Tagan Shepard was a decent read that gets you ready for the fall and Halloween season. Think of cozy binge watching Gilmore Girls with a hot cup of cocoa or coffee! This is a vibe for this book. I have always enjoyed enemies to lovers or accidental encounters to love romance books, so it was a great opportunity to get access to Tagan Shepard's upcoming book, Pumpkin Spice. With fall approaching, it was the perfect cozy read. I especially enjoyed the character development and sense of humor throughout the story.
While reading, I could imagine falling time, over a cozy warm fireplace around me. As I continued reading, the smell of pumpkin spice, coffee and pine trees lit up my imagination of the mysterious hottie being mentioned. Although it was a rather sweet, cozy read, this book was a rather different dynamic than what I am used to reading. It matches today's society and the struggles faced by women. It is merely about taking a chance at love, even though it was not believed in. It is about not being afraid to be yourself and allow yourself to manifest into who you truly dream and want to be. Thank you Bold Strokes Books, INC for providing this ARC copy received from Net Galley. This is my honest and voluntary review.
The book is great to get you in the mood for Autumn and Halloween.
The romance is slow burn and was a Happily Ever After. LGBTQ+ read. Nicki and carter are both women, so it’s interesting to read a love story between them as I feel like lesbian relationships aren’t often portrayed in books.
The writing is more colloquial than some romance books. Written in first person.
The writing style isn’t my preference but will definitely be other people’s preference! Lovely read. Thank you for allowing me to ARC read this book
this is a beautiful slow burn Sapphic romance set in a small Town in Virginia. This story is very captivating and well written. the main characters are caring and loveable. The secondary characters are also good. I loved the interactions between Nicki and her sister. I recommend.
Thank You NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books.
This book was super sweet and perfect for fall/Halloween! A slow burn romance between Nicki and Carter set in a smalltown in the US.
From the first two pages I was giggling and the witty, lighthearted conversations between Nicki and her sister and her niece Lilly.
I’m not usually a slow burn kinda gal but this book had me excited for the next pages.
This highlighted love, family, Halloween, building relationships and the fears that can come with it, all jam packed into a great story.
Thankyou NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book!
A written version of a cup of PSL. Thoroughly enjoyed this autumn romance that once again is two Sapphic leads away from being a Hallmark movie.

Pumpkin Spice is a feel-good sapphic autumn romance set around a cute village and a pumpkin patch.
Nicki is approaching 40, and her previous relationships have not worked out usually because she wants more than they do, and Carter also approaching 40 is new to town and her families farm, which hosts the pumpkin picking patch.
Most of the book is the build-up to their romance, which was fine as the addition of Nicki sister and cute 10 year old niece helped to not make the plot feel very slow.
1 to check out if you want an easy, feel-good read.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this early. Unfortunately, I didn't end of enjoying this one. I was excited to read a sapphic autumn book with characters in their forties, but there was so much miscommunication and immaturity from them both. They both needed therapy separately before being ready for a relationship and I just couldn't enjoy a book where I couldn't root for the couple to end up together in the end.
Pumpkin Spice by Tagan Shepard is a holiday-centric, feel good story that is both charming and sweet. The two main characters have each sworn off romantic entanglements for their own reasons, but they keep running into each other. Eventually they discover an attraction has blossomed.
If you enjoy reading stories with a butch/femme pairing, you’ll enjoy this one.
Nikki is a woman carrying a nearly crippling fear of rejection. She’s sweet, if unfortunately bumbling and awkward. Carter has returned to the family pumpkin farm after ending a stalled relationship. She’s not looking for love, she just wants to heal and get her life back on track.
Both characters need to get over their own fears and barriers in order to learn to trust again. Trust is an ongoing theme throughout this novel. I appreciated that because it’s realistic. The character’s struggles, and the slow burn of their attraction to each other, really clicked for me. As they grew past who they had been, I liked them even more.
The tale is set in a small-town environment, always a winner for me, but Nikki and Carter were what kept me reading. There is an element of each of them in all of us, I think. And that’s why they were so relatable. I found the beginning of the novel was a little slow, but thankfully not for long. This is absolutely a character-driven story. Full of hope, pumpkins and potential.
I very much enjoyed it. My thanks to Tagan Shepard for writing it, and publisher Bold Strokes Books & NetGalley for a review copy of this 5 star tale.
pumpkin spice is a cozy, fall themed romance featuring nicki, a shy, clutzy accountant, and carter, the new-in-town hottie who works at the local pumpkin farm. it’s light, fluffy, and filled with adorable tension.
first of all, i ADORED carter’s character. it was so nice to see some butch rep in this book, and her character was so well written and fleshed out - she was charming, funny, and a little mysterious. i also loved nicki and rachel’s sibling relationship, it added that little bit of extra depth to the story, i found their relationship to be really well written and at times, very funny!
however, I did find nicki’s character to be quite lacking in personality, her only two traits being self-deprecation and clumsiness, which felt slightly overplayed.
outside of nicki and carters relationship, this book had no real plot, so if you’re after a romance with a deeper overarching plot, i’d say this book isn’t for you - but overall, this was a cute, super fluffy, and fast read that i’d definitely recommend if you want a quick, light and cozy read that doesn’t require too much effort!

Pumpkin Spice is just as cozy and familiar as the drink it’s named after. We have a low-stakes, sapphic romance that follows forty year old Nikki as she falls for a butch lumberjack named Carter. Since this book is less than 250 pages, I definitely wished the characters had a bit more depth and we had gotten a chance to understand them better, but the story flowed well and was just a comforting read from beginning to end.
I did have a few gripes (of course); mainly, that none of the characters acted their age, or at least consistently acted the same age throughout the story. We have 11 year of Lily who swings wildly between six year old naïveté and 15 year old angst, coupled with 40 year old Nikki who I consistently imagined as an early twenties mess because that just felt more accurate to her decision-making.
That being said, I adored so much about this book. The cozy Virginia mountain setting including the blue ridge trails and the not-do subtle inspiration of Carter’s Mountain just really felt like a bit of home between the pages. The characters, while they sometimes annoyed me individually, had great interactions and banter and just all around great loving small-town vibes. This book was so freaking cozy.

I loved Pumpkin Spice! It was Hallmark in a book, in a good way. It was a great book to just sit and read in one sitting, the pages just flew by. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking for those cozy fall-vibes, it made me really excited to go pumpkin picking and for all the leaves to start falling!
I read approximately 10% of this book before deciding not to continue. I went in knowing this was LGBTQ+ with a FMC likely to find love with another FMC. This did not bother me. What I didn't like is that there was a constant focus in the early chapters of the book on how "butch" or "feminine" the characters were. Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand why this needs to be specified all the time. I would just like to read about two females being themselves and finding love, without talking about how they do or don't fit into lesbian stereotypes.
Out of respect for the author, I did not post my thoughts or review on social media.
This cover and title made me grab this book so fast! Add in that it is a sapphic romance set in the fall and I was sold! The romance was so sweet and a little spicy. It was exactly what I wanted. I loved the family. The pumpkin farm was so fun and trick or treating with the kids was a blast. Niki and Carter are just the cutest. This book has me in the fall mood! Now I need a pumpkin treat! I highly recommend this one. Thank you to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books, Inc. for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
This is a sweet and cozy novel, perfect for autumn weather- just like a Pumpkin Spice Latte! I will say, it took me a bit to get into this story, but I think a large part of that is because I'm used to reading monster and/or dark romances. Another part is the main character frequently judging herself for having the audacity to enjoy a pumpkin spice latte, gasp!
The romance is simple, but not in a bad way- we're just watching a couple meet and fall in love in a transitional season of life for both of them. It felt realistic and the love each woman felt was tangible.
The two biggest plusses for me however were that there was no 80% breakup (there is an 80% "turning point conflict," but no breakup) and the story is about women in their late 30s. These are two things that I find rare in the romance novels that I read.
I loved this!!! Such a sweet story, and absolutely perfect for the fall season!! I related so much to Nicki, just in general being awkward all the time. I really liked that no matter what she was always true to herself. Carter is such a great character too, I loved her mix of confidence and sweet shyness. So many laugh out loud moments too with all of the side characters too, especially Lucy! I definitely recommend this book to give you the warm fuzzies of fall!

Pumpkin Spice is a cute romance for when you are feeling the need for some fall vibes in your day. I enjoyed Nicki and Carter's story. They were both adorably awkward and nervous. There were some moments when I wanted to get both of them therapy but as they didn't have any external obstacles, their emotional baggage was the only thing creating conflict. Nicki's niece was actually my favorite character. Her love of Halloween and take charge attitude was completely adorable. I recommend this one for when you feel the need for a cozy low conflict read!
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this quaint book
Nicki Russell has always been clumsy, she would fall over her shoe lace and as for her love life well that was just as disastrous
but she is a very good auntie and would anything for her niece and nephew and if that meant going to get pumpkins and carry as many as she could then that is what she would do
carter works at her parents pumpkin farm....and is in charge of decorating one of the barns for Halloween with nicki who had only volunteered because her niece pleaded with her
a fun read in time for Halloween, i did enjoy getting to know the characters and i loved how the author wrote that i fell into this book and couldnt put it down
