a really cute, fresh, and fast read!!!!!
i will definitely recommend this book to other people who want to read something like this book.
3.5/5
This book healed and broke my heart at the same time. I feel in love with the characters a part and together. If you are a sucker for a good slow burn this is the book for you! You will be guessing and then second guessing this whole book. The plot is engaging and at times I couldn’t truly put the book down.
Charlie loves women, well not love them exactly, she spends her time seeing if she can bed them without making a commitment. She didn;t believe in ‘love’ and didn’t want to waste their time or her own because she didn’t do relationships. She works as an assistant to her good friend, veterinarian Liz, who very much wants Charlie to take the time to study and become a veterinarian herself. Charlie and her best friend Val share an apartment and Val is like Charlie, she doesn’t do relationships.
Erica along with her twin Zachery own a string of nightclubs left to them by their fathers. Erica’s mother was a snob. No one is good enough for her daughter but she keeps trying to settle down with Erica with a woman of her dreams. For some reason Erica still lives close to her mother but when Zachery asks Erica to go check one of their clubs, someone is stealing and Erica hopes to catch them. It also gives Erica a chance to get away from her mother.
Ms Forsythe has written a book that I had a hard time putting down. Great characters, both main and supporting, along with a nicely paced story. Very, very enjoyable read.

I sadly did not like this one. I couldn’t really get into it, and it just kept dragging on! I feel like the characters were not keeping me engaged, and I (personally) didn't care for the mystery/suspense subplot. This book just wasn’t for me!
unfortunately wasn’t my favorite, i couldn’t get myself to care about or empathize with the characters and there was just too much going on with erica’s overbrearing mother, the emotionally unavailable/one night trope, leading to predictably and inevitablely always falling for their fling.
Opposites attract romance where Charlie doesn't ever stay for more than one night with anyone and Erica is looking for a more long term deal. They start off judging each other then soften their views and get to know each other (they start off disliking each other but I wouldn't classify them as enemies to lovers). There are some characters that need to get over themselves and let Erica do her own thing, namely her mother because Erica is in her mid-30s and will be able to manage her own life decisions. Overall I enjoyed the story and a cute cat that does the heavy lifting of getting the couple together.
Fun and a clever idea for a story. Well written. You can picture the bar scenes where Erica is unimpressed by player Charlie really clearly. Following that by them getting together via the cat was ingenious. Plus it added some heart warming fluff. I’m not sure Cornwall was the right setting for Mother, she seemed more Home Counties, but either way she packed the right punch. The brother was a bit bland and could have been given some better dialogue, especially as he was a twin, but that was a minor niggle as the story is a good romance.
Loved it!
Erica is the only person her brother can rely on to take an undercover mission at the bar they co-own to find who is responsible for money going missing. Meeting Charlie, who is instantly smitten with Erica on first sight, Erica tries to avoid her as she finds her irritating. Avoiding Charlie isn’t as easy as she thinks, and with her mother back home still pushing for her to commit to another woman, Erica is just stuck.
This was such a fun story! From the moment it began, I just knew it was going to be one of those stories I’d end up loving and unable to put down. The instant tension radiating from Erica about her mother, the mission at the bar, and Charlie came so fast but perfectly set the scene that Erica was going to snap somewhere, the question was when and where. It kept me hooked and what I adored was Charlie’s persistence to get to know Erica, even when she’d been given the cold shoulder. That challenge set a theme throughout the book that could then be applied to the mission Erica was on too.
When Erica finally accepted she couldn’t afford Charlie, and we really learned that a lot of the Charlie we’d met earlier in the story was a front, I adored how she was and knew Erica would be unable to resist. In the end it was good that she had Charlie because hiding her identity at work, and worrying about the pressures her mother was still applying from miles away, she really did need someone supportive and who knew the truth besides her brother. They had an amazing connection and after giving into it, I was just completely in love with them, and just how far Erica had come for a chance at love.
A great story that I can’t wait to read again!
Sweet, Flirty, and fun. I enjoyed the book and found it to an easy read. I loved the main characters and thought the author did a great job bringing them to life. I recommend.
Thank You Bold Strokes Books and NetGalley.
So this book is set in England...what?! I totally feel like this cover did not tell me that at all but nevertheless, Erica and Charlie are a cute couple. And the Erica's twin brother reminded me of Brendan and Brandon from Beverly Hills 90210.
I really enjoyed this book! It was so interesting and the characters were outstanding. Erica and Charlie are amazing characters as individuals but when they interact and are together their combination is outstanding!
Erica's ice queen persona was perfect and the effect that Charlie has on her is amazing. Really they have a great effect on each other.
This story was also true to life because sometimes mother's can ruin everything!
The supporting characters were great additions to the story.
This was a slow burn, ice queen lesbian romance that I really enjoyed reading and will have to pick up again.
Loved this book. Even after finishing it, I was still thinking about these characters. I loved Charlie, she seemed like such a sweet person, even though she was a serial dater she was still nice to the women she hooked up with. Erica actually on the other hand I didn't like at first, but she grew on me the more that I understood her story and character. These two were total opposites, but they worked. The interactions between these two was off the charts hot. The moments of banter between them was really sweet. And I really came to like Charlie's friends and Erica's brother Zach.. They really helped to make this a better story. There's some angst and drama, throughout this book, but it only helps to strengthen their relationship. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends and family and I look forward to what's next from this author.
The banter had me from the very beginning. Such an enjoyable fun read. I highly recommend this book!
We Met in a Bar was truly a breath of fresh air. It was so so fun to read and I fell in love with the characters and their intricate lives. I read this book in about 3 days, so the only complaint (if any) I have is that it was just too addictive and a true struggle to put down.
I have to admit, the length of the book was slightly intimidating, and I was scared it was going to be boring or slow, but as soon as I started reading my fears were put to rest. The dual POV was amazing, as they were both SUCH lovable characters and I loved getting to know them.
Erica started off being a not-so-likeable character, and was pretty snobbish towards the beginning. However, as we started to get to know her better, it became clear that it was all a facade, and she truly was such a sweet person. Especially as we got to know more about Erica and her family, she was such an interesting character to learn about.
Something Claire Forsythe did beautifully is make sure the main characters are multidimensional. Charlie was so complex as well with her history and the explanations for her actions. These characters were written so beautifully and their chemistry was unmatched.
Not to sound redundant, but I truly did enjoy the book, and the side characters made it so much better. Tess, Erica’s best friend, was so supportive and a great friend. Charlie’s friends Liz and Nancy were also the cutest ever, and you could tell how for both these characters, family extended beyond just blood and their friends mirrored their loving, selfless personalities. To make things even better, nearly everyone was gay, so that was definitely an added plus. I loved how the side characters weren’t just 1-dimensional and also were complex just like the main characters.
As per the plot, it was a combination of things I love: A mix of mystery and romance (with a little bit of enemies to lovers), and it truly did add up to a great book. Their love was so pure and strong, and I found myself going through the ups and downs with them.
“She would walk over hot coals sixteen times if it meant another date with Erica.”
That quote was just one of many examples of how cute and perfect this book was. I just loved how pure their love story was and how human they were. I think at it’s core, love is just finding someone who makes your heart stop in the best way possible and who you want to never leave again, and this book did a beautiful job of showcasing that. It highlighted queer love as the normal occurrence it is, and I just was so so happy to see such a beautiful representation of two girls in love.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This truly was one of the best books I’ve read in a while, and I look forward to reading more books by this author!
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. I enjoyed this story. I really liked the chemistry between Erica and Charlie. They’re back and forth from the beginning, the instant attraction, the words shared between them. I was here for all of it. I like how their relationship progressed with time and circumstances. The spice was on point and I was pretty pleased about it. I didn’t do much like Erica’s relationship with her mother. I feel like their kind of codependency wasn’t fleshed out as much as it could have been.
Let’s talk about the entire reason Erica ended up going to London. That side plot of finding a thief and the investigation process that Erica went through was pretty interesting. I would have liked to see more of that story as well but I know it was more so about Erica and Charlie.
All in all I really liked this book and I think that others will enjoy it as well. I’d give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars
Erica is a posh socialite living the high life. Her mother is overbearing and is trying to set her up with the perfect woman, Victoria, whom Erica has zero chemistry with. When Erica's twin brother Zach begs her to come to London to help catch someone stealing at the bar they own, Erica only agrees to go undercover as a way to escape her mother and Victoria.
Charlie, on the other hand, lives only for the fun of the moment, and she never takes the same woman home twice. She doesn't do relationships. But when she first sees Erica at Oasis, her favorite bar, something clicks between the two of them.
This was a fun read. I loved the animosity between the two at the beginning, the way they ended up becoming friends, and finally giving in to the chemistry between them. The side story of the bar thief was super predictable, but otherwise this was a fun easy read. If you like sapphic enemies-to-lovers with a bit of forced proximity thrown in, you'll love this one!

Erica and Charlie live in opposite worlds. When they meet, there is this intense immediate attraction, but as soon as Erica realize Charlie is the player type, she becomes obnoxious to her. I love when relationships starts badly like that, and Forsythe delighted us with multiple random conflictual encounters. When their relationship shift, it’s full of sweet scenes where Charlie and Erica get close and it’s like you are meet with two different characters, especially Charlie. Forsythe makes a good job showing there were some hidden doors that Charlie and Erica didn’t know even existed and only the other held the key. Of course as a good romcom, the bubble eventually burst, breaking your heart and then mending it. The thief chasing participates in holding the readers attention, even if the mystery is pretty easy to guess from the start.
There are some books that I can easy imagine as a romcom on Netflix, and with initial tension, chemistry and sweetness, this book is one of them. I had a really good time reading it.
Set in England, We Met At A Bar is a romcom featuring two women on an unlikely path to love. Erica is used to a posh and comfortable life— her brother takes care of the bars they inherited from their father. She dates wealthy, beautiful women who she can’t help but find boring and self-obsessed. When money is going missing from one of their bars, her brother asks her to go undercover as a bartender to figure out which of the employees is stealing it. There she meets Charlie, a flirty vet assistant who prefers one night stands over committed relationships.
Most of the plot revolves around figuring out the stolen money, as well as Charlie and Erica getting to know each other. While it was enjoyable, I found it to drag on a little bit. I think it could have been cut down or had some other elements added to make it more engaging. For the most part, I still enjoyed getting to know Charlie and Erica and watching the unlikely pair fall for each other.
There was one storyline I did have an issue with. Without spoiling the plot, an abusive relationship was almost completely dismissed. That was hard for me to get past and I wish had been dealt with differently.
Posh Erica is living a life of expectations - of her mother's expectations as to what her live should be and whom she should date. After a dismal first date with Victoria and faced with a vacation with her mother, Victoria, and Victoria's mother, Erica jumps at the chance to help her brother catch a thief in their shared bar where she is immediately attracted to blonde, commitment averse Charlie -- who kisses another woman on the dance floor while making eyes at Erica. Can Erica find the thief or will her heart be stolen?
I loved the dual POV of both characters and the push and pull of their attraction to each other. For the majority of the book, it is a slow burn with lots of sexual tension and heavy kissing.
A third act break up is always one of my least favorite things in a book -- but it sort of works in this book. It makes sense and the characters don't immediately fall back together which was refreshing.
Hera the cat is adorable -- and I'm so glad that she liked Charlie. I would love a book or short story about Olly and Zachary.

We Met in a Bar is a cute opposites attract romance. Although a little predictable at times, you find yourself caring about the main characters Erica and Charlie. Who can forget Hera, Erica's cat. Hera is the hero of the story bringing Erica and Charlie together after a few contentious interactions.
Fast paced and easy to read. I would reach for this book again.
