I was hoping to glean some helpful information from this book. It fell a bit flat for me. I did not feel it contained much new information for people who are well read on the topic. For a beginner it might be beneficial.
I found this to be a well-researched and informative book. I read a lot of health books and this one is in my top 10. It is a great reminder that what we feed our body will determine our health and longevity. Our society makes it easy for us to grab fast food or processed foods and it takes more time to eat healthy, but the benefits outweigh the effort. I hope that more people pick up this book and become more conscious about what they are putting into their mouths or feeding their families.
I love this topic but didn’t love the book. I didn’t personally learn anything new from this book that felt at times like it was written by a bot. It will be helpful for those who are brand new to the topic of nutrition.
I read a digital version of this book via NetGalley.
I am all about self help and learning more about how to eat for my health. I found this book to be interesting and informative.
Informative, interesting, and useful information. Easy to read, heavy on the education and information.
Thank you BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for the electronic review copy of this wonderful book. I enjoyed the simple, easy-to-understand way the book explains the benefits of healthy lifestyle, exercise, and whole food nutrition. It is a must have for anyone who is starting on their way to healthy living and is not sure where and how to start.
Let Food Be Your Medicine: Dr. Steve's Guide to Manage Your Health, Aging, Disease, and Weight Gain by Dr. Steve Kringold is a book aimed to be a comprehensive guide to health, fitness, and weight management. This guide seems to come out of his work and his life experience beating cancer. It is a great guide to pick up in an attempt to regain health. That being said, he is referred to throughout as “Dr Steve” and it is unclear what he is a doctor of. Otherwise, this book seems like a good resource. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
Dr. Kringold explains how food as medicine can better our lives. It includes recipes and ideas for using the superfoods.
What a sensible well written book ! There are many books out there on nutrition, health and lifestyle but this is by far the most accessible and common sense book on the subject that I have ever read. No had diets, no cabbage soup, it just sets out in layman's terms how to eat healthily and look after your body. This should be given out by GPs to folk.
I learned quite a bit from reading this book, although most of it was surface-level. It did pique my curiosity and I know that I will be diving deeper into a few of the topics. The books is well organized and the appendix in the back is helpful. The author inserts a bit of his personality and humor throughout. I would suggest this book for anyone not wanting to initially invest a ton of time into a book, but wanting a bird's eye view of diet and nutrition. I am sure I will refer back to this book throughout my own health journey.
Thanks to Netgalley for this ARC.
This book was very manageable and comprehensive. I gained a better understanding of nutrition in a way that is substantiated by scientific references. This book supported me at a time when I needed changes and Dr. Kringold's wit and direction added to my success thus far!
"Let Food Be Your Medicine" is an excellent handbook on the link between nutrition and disease and how a highly processed diet can contribute to your decline in health. As the saying goes, "we are what we eat!" This book offers relevant information on how to improve our health and it underscores the significance of nurturing our bodies with nutritious choices. The book emphasizes the transformative power that food and healthy habits can have on preventing and treating various diseases.
This book was packed with plenty of information and I think someone with very little knowledge on the topic could benefit from reading it. However, I didn’t love the layout of the book and found it a bit choppy at times. Thanks to NetGalley for the free copy in exchange for my honest review!
I am someone who has 2 autoimmune diseases along with other health issues. I feel like I have read everything on eating right for your health but this book was so good that I am applying it to my daily life.
I received a copy of this book for my honest review from Netgalley.
This book provides a convincing case that food can be some of the most powerful medicine we have for managing health and well-being. It has practical, personalized advice on using nutrition to optimize aging, fight disease, lose weight, and just feel better - a helpful read for anyone looking to improve their diet and remember the importance of making time for whole foods.
The book starts by describing how food has evolved throughout the years, from hunter gathering to the introduction of farming and on to how food is processed in modern times. Dr Kringold then goes on to explain the methods doctors use to diagnose health conditions, and all the factors which can affect a medical decision. He then gives well researched, detailed information about every type of food source and how it can impact our health.
I found the writing style easy to understand, with interesting examples and a good injection of humour. The chapters are short , with concise lists which made the book really easy to navigate.
I loved how the author gave a handy ready reckoner of portions sizes, because I find weights difficult to envisage. So, knowing that 3 ounces of meat or poultry equates to a deck of cards was extremely helpful.
The chapter about the importance of sleep and how insomnia impacts health was interesting to me and will certainly be put to good use.
When I started the book I was a little worried that it would criticise the medical profession and steer readers away from conventional medicine. However, this was not the case at all and the book can easily be used in conjunction with medical practices.
This is a handy ‘go to’ book for all your nutritional information. Some reference books of this type lecture about what foods to avoid without stating the reasons why. This book informs and educates about what you should be eating too.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am a great believer in using food as medicine and this book didn't disappoint. A very informative and interesting read.
Intake affects output, right? That's good science and practice. We're all thinking about health, aging, and staying active with maximum energy.
What if a fix (or bump up) was as simple as eating well?
Kringold puts it all together - nutrition, motion, rest, reducing stress ... and a volume that doesn't offer startling new insights. But if you pick up this one book, you'll have a compilation of sound counsel for eating well, rounding out your nutritional needs, examining your lifestyle for natural prevention, and a boost in the right direction if you need cures for unhealthy habits.
A bonus is link to a short how-to: "Health Coach Secrets."
There is a great deal of valuable information contained in this book. Considering the hundreds of books on health and nutrition, that I have read, this one stands out among the best. Many categories associated with health are assorted for readers of all interest levels.
Well, it was a saying that 'A way to man's heart always goes through his stomach'. I believe for a healthy life this is true for all human beings. There is so much to read and follow from this book. Chapter by chapter, Dr. Steve wrote everything one need to know about their healthy diet. There is another saying in Indian culture that 'It is not just what you eat but how you eat tells about your healthy life'.
Our better diet is our medicine. What we eat decides how we long and happily we live. One can make their food their medicine. Everything we eat will affect our whole body system.
I can vouch for this book as a guide for all.
